Josué 1
1 Et après la mort de Moïse, serviteur de l'Éternel, l'Éternel parla à Josué, fils de Nun, qui était au service de Moïse, en ces termes:
Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,
2 Moïse, mon serviteur, est mort; lève-toi donc maintenant, passe ce Jourdain, toi et tout ce peuple, pour entrer dans le pays que je leur donne, aux enfants d'Israël.
Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, [even] to the children of Israel.
3 Tous les lieux que touchera la plante de vos pieds, je vous les ai donnés, selon la promesse que j'ai faite à Moïse,
Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.
4 depuis le Désert et le Liban que voilà, jusqu'au Grand Fleuve, l'Euphrate, tout le pays des Héthiens et jusqu'à la Grande Mer vers le soleil couchant, telle sera votre frontière.
From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.
5 Personne ne tiendra devant toi, tant que tu vivras: je serai avec toi, de même que j'ai été avec Moïse; je ne te laisserai ni au dépourvu, ni dans l'abandon.
There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, [so] I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
6 Aie courage et fermeté, car c'est à toi de mettre ce peuple en possession du pays que j'ai juré à leurs pères de leur donner.
Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.
7 Aie seulement courage et grande fermeté, t'appliquant à agir en toutes choses d'après la Loi que t'a prescrite Moïse, mon serviteur; ne t'en écarte ni à droite ni à gauche, afin que tu réussisses dans toutes tes entreprises.
Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it [to] the right hand or [to] the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
8 Aie incessamment dans la bouche [les paroles du] livre de cette Loi, médite-le jour et nuit, pour avoir soin d'agir d'après tout ce qui y est consigné, car alors tu trouveras sur ta route réussite et succès.
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
9 Ne t'ai-je pas donné cet ordre: Aie courage et fermeté? Ne prends ni alarme, ni épouvante, car tu as avec toi l'Éternel, ton Dieu, à tous les pas que tu feras.
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God [is] with thee whithersoever thou goest.
10 Alors Josué donna cet ordre aux Officiers du peuple:
Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,
11 Parcourez le camp et transmettez au peuple cet ordre: Pourvoyez-vous de vivres, car dans trois jours vous serez près de passer ce Jourdain pour marcher à la conquête du pays que l'Éternel, votre Dieu, vous donne pour le conquérir.
Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.
12 Et aux Rubénites et aux Gadites et à la demi-Tribu de Manassé Josué parla en ces termes:
And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,
13 Souvenez-vous de la condition que vous a prescrite Moïse, serviteur de l'Éternel, quand il disait: L'Éternel, votre Dieu, vous a donné votre lieu de repos, et concédé cette contrée-ci.
Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.
14 Vos femmes, vos enfants et vos troupeaux resteront dans la contrée que vous a donnée Moïse au delà du Jourdain; mais vous, vous marcherez équipés à la tête de vos frères, vous tous les braves guerriers, et vous les aiderez,
Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;
15 jusqu'à ce que l'Éternel ait donné à vos frères leur lieu de repos comme à vous, et qu'eux aussi aient conquis le pays que l'Éternel, votre Dieu, leur donne. Alors vous regagnerez la contrée qui vous appartient, et vous occuperez ce lot que vous a donné Moïse, serviteur de l'Éternel, au delà du Jourdain, vers le soleil levant.
Until the LORD have given your brethren rest, as [he hath given] you, and they also have possessed the land which the LORD your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD’s servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.
16 Alors ils répondirent à Josué et dirent: Nous exécuterons tous tes ordres, et nous irons partout où tu nous enverras.
And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.
17 En toutes choses nous t'obéirons comme nous avons obéi à Moïse. Puisse seulement l'Éternel, ton Dieu, être avec toi, de même qu'il fut avec Moïse!
According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.
18 Tout homme qui résistera à tes ordres et n'obéira pas à tes paroles dans tout ce que tu lui commanderas, doit être mis à mort. Aie seulement courage et fermeté!
Whosoever [he be] that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.
