1 [Or Jésus se rendit sur la montagne des Oliviers;
And at dawn he came again to the temple,
2 mais à l'aube il vint de nouveau dans le temple, et tout le peuple venait à lui, et s'étant assis il les enseignait.
and all the people were coming unto him, and having sat down, he was teaching them;
3 Les scribes et les pharisiens lui amènent une femme prise en flagrant délit d'adultère, et l'ayant placée au milieu,
and the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman having been taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst,
4 ils lui disent: « Maître, cette femme a été prise en flagrant délit d'adultère;
they say to him, 'Teacher, this woman was taken in the very crime — committing adultery,
5 or, dans la loi, Moïse nous a ordonné de lapider ces femmes-là; toi donc que prononces-tu? »
and in the law, Moses did command us that such be stoned; thou, therefore, what dost thou say?'
6 Or ils parlaient ainsi pour l'éprouver, afin de pouvoir l'accuser. Mais Jésus, s'étant baissé, écrivait avec le doigt sur la terre.
and this they said, trying him, that they might have to accuse him. And Jesus, having stooped down, with the finger he was writing on the ground,
7 Mais comme ils persistaient à l'interroger, s'étant relevé il leur dit: « Que celui de vous qui est sans péché lui jette le premier la pierre. »
and when they continued asking him, having bent himself back, he said unto them, 'The sinless of you — let him first cast the stone at her;'
8 Et s'étant baissé de nouveau il écrivait avec le doigt sur la terre.
and again having stooped down, he was writing on the ground,
9 Mais eux, l'ayant entendu, et étant repris par leur conscience, ils sortirent l'un après l'autre, à commencer par les anciens jusques aux derniers, et Jésus fut laissé seul avec la femme qui était au milieu.
and they having heard, and by the conscience being convicted, were going forth one by one, having begun from the elders — unto the last; and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 Or Jésus s'étant relevé et n'ayant vu personne que la femme lui dit: « Femme, où sont-ils ces gens qui se sont faits tes accusateurs? Personne ne t'a-t-il condamnée? »
And Jesus having bent himself back, and having seen no one but the woman, said to her, 'Woman, where are those — thine accusers? did no one pass sentence upon thee?'
11 Or elle dit: « Personne, Seigneur. » Et Jésus lui dit: « Moi non plus je ne te condamne pas, va, et ne pèche plus. » ]
and she said, 'No one, Sir;' and Jesus said to her, 'Neither do I pass sentence on thee; be going on, and no more sin.'
12 Jésus s'adressa donc derechef à eux en disant: « Je suis la lumière du monde, celui qui me suit ne marchera certainement point dans les ténèbres, mais il possédera la lumière de la vie. »
Again, therefore, Jesus spake to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world; he who is following me shall not walk in the darkness, but he shall have the light of the life.'
13 Les pharisiens lui dirent donc: « Tu portes témoignage en ta faveur; ton témoignage n'est pas véridique. »
The Pharisees, therefore, said to him, 'Thou of thyself dost testify, thy testimony is not true;'
14 Jésus leur répliqua: « Lors même que je porte témoignage en ma faveur, mon témoignage est véridique, parce que je sais d'où je suis venu et où je vais, mais vous, vous ne savez d'où je viens et où je vais.
Jesus answered and said to them, 'And if I testify of myself — my testimony is true, because I have known whence I came, and whither I go, and ye — ye have not known whence I come, or whither I go.
15 Pour vous, vous jugez selon la chair, pour moi je ne juge personne;
'Ye according to the flesh do judge; I do not judge any one,
16 mais d'ailleurs si je juge, mon jugement est véritable, parce que je ne suis pas seul, mais qu'avec moi est aussi le Père qui m'a envoyé.
and even if I do judge my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me;
17 Et en outre dans votre loi il est écrit que le témoignage de deux hommes est véridique;
and also in your law it hath been written, that the testimony of two men are true;
18 c'est moi qui porte témoignage en ma faveur, et le Père qui m'a envoyé porte aussi témoignage en ma faveur. »
I am [one] who is testifying of myself, and the Father who sent me doth testify of me.'
19 Ils lui disaient donc: « Où est ton Père? » Jésus répliqua: « Vous ne connaissez ni moi, ni mon Père; si vous me connaissiez, vous connaîtriez aussi mon Père. »
They said, therefore, to him, 'Where is thy father?' Jesus answered, 'Ye have neither known me nor my Father: if me ye had known, my Father also ye had known.'
20 Il prononça ces paroles près du trésor, pendant qu'il enseignait dans le temple; et personne ne le saisit, parce que son heure n'était pas encore venue.
These sayings spake Jesus in the treasury, teaching in the temple, and no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come;
21 Il leur dit donc derechef: « Je m'en vais, et vous me chercherez, et vous mourrez dans votre péché; là où moi je vais, vous, vous ne pouvez venir. »
therefore said Jesus again to them, 'I go away, and ye will seek me, and in your sin ye shall die; whither I go away, ye are not able to come.'
22 Les Juifs disaient donc: « Est-ce qu'il se tuera, qu'il dit: Là où moi je vais, vous, vous ne pouvez venir? »
The Jews, therefore, said, 'Will he kill himself, because he saith, Whither I go away, ye are not able to come?'
23 Et il leur disait: « Pour vous, vous êtes d'en bas, mais je suis d'en haut; vous, vous êtes de ce monde, moi, je ne suis pas de ce monde.
and he said to them, 'Ye are from beneath, I am from above; ye are of this world, I am not of this world;
24 Je vous ai donc dit que vous mourrez dans vos péchés; car si vous ne croyez pas que c'est moi qui le suis, vous mourrez dans vos péchés. »
I said, therefore, to you, that ye shall die in your sins, for if ye may not believe that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins.'
25 Ils lui disaient donc: « Toi, qui es-tu? » Jésus leur dit: « Cela même dont je vous parle dès le commencement.
They said, therefore, to him, 'Thou — who art thou?' and Jesus said to them, 'Even what I did speak of to you at the beginning;
26 J'ai beaucoup à dire et à juger à votre égard, mais Celui qui m'a envoyé est véridique, et quant à moi, ce que j'ai entendu de Lui, c'est ce dont je parle dans le monde. »
many things I have to speak concerning you and to judge, but He who sent me is true, and I — what things I heard from Him — these I say to the world.'
27 Ils ne comprirent pas qu'il leur parlait du Père.
They knew not that of the Father he spake to them;
28 Jésus dit donc: « Quand vous aurez élevé le fils de l'homme, alors vous connaîtrez que c'est moi qui le suis, et que je ne fais rien de mon chef, mais que je parle comme mon Père m'a enseigné,
Jesus, therefore, said to them, 'When ye may lift up the Son of Man then ye will know that I am [he]; and of myself I do nothing, but according as my Father did teach me, these things I speak;
29 et que Celui qui m'a envoyé est avec moi; Il ne m'a pas laissé seul, parce que je fais toujours ce qui Lui plaît. »
and He who sent me is with me; the Father did not leave me alone, because I, the things pleasing to Him, do always.'
30 Pendant qu'il parlait ainsi, plusieurs crurent en lui.
As he is speaking these things, many believed in him;
31 Jésus disait donc aux Juifs qui avaient cru en lui: « Si vous demeurez dans ma parole, vous êtes vraiment mes disciples,
Jesus, therefore, said unto the Jews who believed in him, 'If ye may remain in my word, truly my disciples ye are, and ye shall know the truth,
32 et vous connaîtrez la vérité, et la vérité vous rendra libres. »
and the truth shall make you free.'
33 Ils lui répliquèrent: « Nous sommes la postérité d'Abraham, et jamais nous ne fûmes esclaves de personne; comment peux-tu dire: vous deviendrez libres? »
They answered him, 'Seed of Abraham we are; and to no one have we been servants at any time; how dost thou say — Ye shall become free?'
34 Jésus leur répliqua: « En vérité, en vérité je vous déclare que quiconque pratique le péché est esclave du péché;
Jesus answered them, 'Verily, verily, I say to you — Every one who is committing sin, is a servant of the sin,
35 or l'esclave ne demeure pas éternellement dans la famille; le fils y demeure éternellement; (aiōn g165)
and the servant doth not remain in the house — to the age, the son doth remain — to the age; (aiōn g165)
36 si donc le fils vous délivre, vous serez réellement libres.
if then the son may make you free, in reality ye shall be free.
37 Je sais que vous êtes la postérité d'Abraham, mais vous cherchez à me faire mourir, parce que ma parole ne trouve pas accès parmi vous.
'I have known that ye are seed of Abraham, but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you;
38 Pour moi, je parle de ce que j'ai vu auprès de mon Père; vous donc aussi, vous faites ce que vous avez appris de votre père. »
I — that which I have seen with my Father do speak, and ye, therefore, that which ye have seen with your father — ye do.'
39 Ils lui répliquèrent: « Notre père est Abraham. » Jésus leur dit: « Si vous étiez enfants d'Abraham, vous feriez les œuvres d'Abraham;
They answered and said to him, 'Our father is Abraham;' Jesus saith to them, 'If children of Abraham ye were, the works of Abraham ye were doing;
40 mais maintenant vous cherchez à me faire mourir, moi, un homme qui vous ai annoncé la vérité que j'ai entendue de Dieu; c'est ce que n'a point fait Abraham;
and now, ye seek to kill me — a man who hath spoken to you the truth I heard from God; this Abraham did not;
41 vous faites les œuvres de votre père. » Ils lui dirent: « Nous ne sommes point nés d'un commerce impudique, nous n'avons qu'un seul et unique père, qui est Dieu. »
ye do the works of your father.' They said, therefore, to him, 'We of whoredom have not been born; one Father we have — God;'
42 Jésus leur dit: « Si Dieu était votre père, vous m'aimeriez; en effet je suis issu de Dieu et je viens de Lui, car je ne suis point venu de mon chef, mais c'est Lui qui m'a envoyé.
Jesus then said to them, 'If God were your father, ye were loving me, for I came forth from God, and am come; for neither have I come of myself, but He sent me;
43 Pourquoi ne comprenez-vous pas mon langage? Parce que vous ne pouvez écouter ma parole;
wherefore do ye not know my speech? because ye are not able to hear my word.
44 pour vous, vous êtes issus du père qui est le diable, et vous voulez accomplir les désirs de votre père; il a été homicide dès le commencement, et il ne se tient pas dans la vérité, parce qu'il n'y a pas de vérité en lui; lorsqu'il profère le mensonge, il parle de son propre fonds, car il est menteur et en est le père.
'Ye are of a father — the devil, and the desires of your father ye will to do; he was a man-slayer from the beginning, and in the truth he hath not stood, because there is no truth in him; when one may speak the falsehood, of his own he speaketh, because he is a liar — also his father.
45 Mais moi, parce que je vous dis la vérité, vous ne me croyez pas.
'And because I say the truth, ye do not believe me.
46 Qui d'entre vous me convainc de péché? Si je dis la vérité, pourquoi ne me croyez-vous pas?
Who of you doth convict me of sin? and if I speak truth, wherefore do ye not believe me?
47 Celui qui est issu de Dieu écoute les paroles de Dieu; vous, vous ne les écoutez pas, parce que vous n'êtes pas issus de Dieu. »
he who is of God, the sayings of God he doth hear; because of this ye do not hear, because of God ye are not.'
48 Les Juifs lui répliquèrent: « N'avons-nous pas raison de dire que tu es un Samaritain, et que tu as un démon? »
The Jews, therefore, answered and said to him, 'Do we not say well, that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?'
49 Jésus répliqua: « Pour moi, je n'ai pas de démon, mais j'honore mon Père, et vous, vous me déshonorez;
Jesus answered, 'I have not a demon, but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me;
50 mais je ne recherche pas ma propre gloire; il y en a Un qui la recherche et qui juge.
and I do not seek my own glory; there is who is seeking and is judging;
51 En vérité, en vérité je vous déclare que si quelqu'un a observé ma parole, il ne verra certainement jamais la mort. » (aiōn g165)
verily, verily, I say to you, If any one may keep my word, death he may not see — to the age.' (aiōn g165)
52 Les Juifs lui dirent: « Maintenant nous reconnaissons que tu as un démon; Abraham est mort ainsi que les prophètes, et toi tu dis: Si quelqu'un a observé ma parole, il ne verra certainement jamais la mort. (aiōn g165)
The Jews, therefore, said to him, 'Now we have known that thou hast a demon; Abraham did die, and the prophets, and thou dost say, If any one may keep my word, he shall not taste of death — to the age! (aiōn g165)
53 Est-ce que tu es plus grand que notre père Abraham, lequel est pourtant mort? Les prophètes aussi sont morts. Qui prétends-tu être? »
Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died; whom dost thou make thyself?'
54 Jésus répliqua: « Si c'est moi qui me glorifie moi-même, ma gloire n'est rien; c'est mon Père qui me glorifie, Lui que vous dites être votre Dieu,
Jesus answered, 'If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father who is glorifying me, of whom ye say that He is your God;
55 et cependant vous ne Le connaissez pas, mais moi je Le connais; et si je disais que je ne Le connais pas, je serais un menteur comme vous, mais je Le connais et j'observe Sa parole.
and ye have not known Him, and I have known Him, and if I say that I have not known Him, I shall be like you — speaking falsely; but I have known Him, and His word I keep;
56 Abraham votre père a tressailli de joie de ce qu'il verrait ma journée, et il l'a vue, et il s'est réjoui. »
Abraham, your father, was glad that he might see my day; and he saw, and did rejoice.'
57 Les Juifs lui dirent donc: « Tu n'as pas encore cinquante ans, et tu as vu Abraham! »
The Jews, therefore, said unto him, 'Thou art not yet fifty years old, and Abraham hast thou seen?'
58 Jésus leur dit: « En vérité, en vérité je vous le déclare, avant qu'Abraham existât, je suis. »
Jesus said to them, 'Verily, verily, I say to you, Before Abraham's coming — I am;'
59 Ils prirent donc des pierres pour les lui jeter; Jésus se cacha et sortit du temple.
they took up, therefore, stones that they may cast at him, but Jesus hid himself, and went forth out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
