Jérémie 8
1 Dans le même temps, dit l'Éternel, on exhumera de leurs tombeaux les os des rois de Juda, et les os de ses princes, et les os des sacrificateurs, et les os des prophètes, et les os des habitants de Jérusalem;
At that time, saith the LORD, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves:
2 et on les étendra devant le soleil, et la lune et toute l'armée des Cieux, qu'ils ont aimés, et qu'ils ont servis, et qu'ils ont suivis, et qu'ils ont cherchés, et qu'ils ont adorés; ils ne seront ni recueillis, ni inhumés; ils seront un fumier sur la terre;
And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.
3 et la mort sera préférée à la vie par tous ceux qui resteront de cette race perverse, dans tous les lieux où j'aurai disséminé leurs restes, dit l'Éternel des armées.
And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue of them that remain of this evil family, which remain in all the places whither I have driven them, saith the LORD of hosts.
4 Dis-leur encore: Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Si l'on tombe, ne se relève-t-on pas? Si l'on dévie, ne revient-on pas?
Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; Shall they fall, and not arise? shall he turn away, and not return?
5 Pourquoi ce peuple, Jérusalem, dévie-t-il sans jamais revenir? Ils s'obstinent dans leur tromperie; ils refusent de se convertir.
Why [then] is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.
6 J'observai et j'écoutai; ils ne parlent pas bien; aucun ne se repent de sa méchanceté, et ne dit: Qu'ai-je fait? Tous ils s'écartent dans leur course, comme un cheval élancé dans la mêlée.
I hearkened and heard, [but] they spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.
7 Même la cigogne dans les airs connaît sa saison; et la tourterelle, l'hirondelle et la grue observent le temps de leur retour, et mon peuple ne connaît point la loi de l'Éternel! Comment osez-vous dire:
Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the LORD.
8 Nous sommes sages, nous savons la loi de l'Éternel?…. Certes le style menteur des Scribes en fait un mensonge.
How do ye say, We [are] wise, and the law of the LORD [is] with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he [it; ] the pen of the scribes [is] in vain.
9 Ils seront confus les sages, ils seront atterrés, ils seront enveloppés. Voici, ils ont méprisé la parole de l'Éternel: quelle sagesse est la leur!
The wise [men] are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom [is] in them?
10 C'est pourquoi je donnerai leurs femmes à d'autres, et leurs champs à de nouveaux possesseurs; car du petit au grand tous sont désireux du gain, du prophète au sacrificateur tous commettent des fraudes.
Therefore will I give their wives unto others, [and] their fields to them that shall inherit [them: ] for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
11 Et ils traitent la plaie de mon peuple comme chose légère, disant: « Salut! salut! » et il n'y a point de salut.
For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when [there is] no peace.
12 Ils seront confondus, car ils font des abominations; mais ils ne rougissent point, ils ne connaissent point la honte; aussi tomberont-ils avec ceux qui tombent, au jour des châtiments ils seront renversés, dit l'Éternel.
Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
13 Je les détruirai, dit l'Éternel; il n'y aura plus de raisins au cep, ni de figues au figuier, et la feuille se flétrira; et je leur donnerai qui les envahira.
I will surely consume them, saith the LORD: [there shall be] no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade; and [the things that] I have given them shall pass away from them.
14 « Pourquoi nous arrêter? Rassemblez-vous, et allons dans les villes fortes, et y périssons, puisque l'Éternel, notre Dieu, veut notre perte, et qu'il nous abreuve d'eaux vénéneuses, parce que nous avons péché contre l'Éternel.
Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defenced cities, and let us be silent there: for the LORD our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against the LORD.
15 Nous attendions le salut, mais il ne vient rien de bon; le temps de la guérison, et voici l'épouvante. »
We looked for peace, but no good [came; and] for a time of health, and behold trouble!
16 De Dan se fait entendre le frémissement de leurs chevaux; au hennissement de leurs coursiers toute la terre tremble; ils arrivent et dévorent le pays et ce qu'il renferme, les villes et leurs habitants.
The snorting of his horses was heard from Dan: the whole land trembled at the sound of the neighing of his strong ones; for they are come, and have devoured the land, and all that is in it; the city, and those that dwell therein.
17 Oui, voici, je vous envoie des serpents, des aspics, contre lesquels le charme est nul, et ils vous piqueront, dit l'Éternel.
For, behold, I will send serpents, cockatrices, among you, which [will] not [be] charmed, and they shall bite you, saith the LORD.
18 [Où trouver] la sérénité au lieu du chagrin? En moi mon cœur est languissant!
[When] I would comfort myself against sorrow, my heart [is] faint in me.
19 Voici, les cris de détresse de mon peuple d'une terre lointaine se font entendre: « L'Éternel n'est-Il plus en Sion, ou son Roi n'y est-Il plus? » – « Pourquoi m'ont-ils irrité par leurs idoles, par les vanités de l'étranger? »
Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: [Is] not the LORD in Zion? [is] not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, [and] with strange vanities?
20 – « La moisson est finie, l'été est passé, et nous ne sommes pas secourus! »
The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.
21 De la meurtrissure de mon peuple je suis meurtri, je mène deuil, l'horreur m'a saisi.
For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me.
22 N'y a-t-il point de baume en Galaad? n'y a-t-il point de médecin? Pourquoi ne bande-t-on pas la plaie de mon peuple?
[Is there] no balm in Gilead; [is there] no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?
