Jérémie 22
1 Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Descends à la maison du roi de Juda, et là prononce ces paroles,
Thus saith the LORD; Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word,
2 et dis: Écoute la parole de l'Éternel, roi de Juda, assis sur le trône de David, toi et tes serviteurs et ton peuple, vous tous qui entrez par ces portes!
And say, Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, that sittest upon the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people that enter in by these gates:
3 Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Faites droit et justice, et retirez l'homme dépouillé des mains de l'oppresseur, et n'opprimez ni l'étranger, ni l'orphelin, ni la veuve, n'usez pas de violence, et ne versez pas le sang innocent dans ce lieu!
Thus saith the LORD; Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.
4 Car si vous vous conformez à cette parole, les rois assis sur le trône de David entreront par les portes de cette maison, montés sur des chars et des chevaux, eux et leurs serviteurs et leur peuple.
For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people.
5 Mais, si vous n'êtes pas dociles à ces paroles, je le jure par moi-même, dit l'Éternel, cette maison sera mise en ruine.
But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, saith the LORD, that this house shall become a desolation.
6 Car ainsi prononce l'Éternel touchant la maison du roi de Juda: Tu es pour moi une Galaad, une cime du Liban; mais, je le jure, je te transformerai en désert, en ville inhabitée.
For thus saith the LORD unto the king’s house of Judah; Thou [art] Gilead unto me, [and] the head of Lebanon: [yet] surely I will make thee a wilderness, [and] cities [which] are not inhabited.
7 Je sacre tes destructeurs, chacun avec ses armes, et ils abattront l'élite de tes cèdres, et les jetteront au feu.
And I will prepare destroyers against thee, every one with his weapons: and they shall cut down thy choice cedars, and cast [them] into the fire.
8 Et des peuples nombreux passeront près de cette ville, et se diront l'un à l'autre: Pourquoi l'Éternel a-t-Il traité de la sorte cette grande ville?
And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this great city?
9 Et on dira: Parce qu'ils ont déserté l'alliance de l'Éternel, leur Dieu, et qu'ils ont adoré et servi d'autres dieux.
Then they shall answer, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God, and worshipped other gods, and served them.
10 Ne pleurez point celui qui est mort, et ne le plaignez pas! pleurez, pleurez celui qui fut emmené! car il ne reviendra plus, et ne reverra plus le pays de sa naissance.
Weep ye not for the dead, neither bemoan him: [but] weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall return no more, nor see his native country.
11 Car ainsi prononce l'Éternel touchant Sallum, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, qui succéda à Josias, son père, et qui est sorti de ce lieu: Il n'y reviendra pas,
For thus saith the LORD touching Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah, which reigned instead of Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any more:
12 car il mourra dans le lieu où il a été déporté; il y mourra, et ce pays, il ne le reverra plus.
But he shall die in the place whither they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more.
13 Malheur à celui qui élève sa maison par l'iniquité, et ses appartements par l'injustice, qui fait travailler son prochain sans salaire, et ne lui paie pas le prix de son labeur,
Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; [that] useth his neighbour’s service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;
14 qui dit: Je me bâtirai des maisons vastes et des salles aérées, et qui y perce des fenêtres, et la lambrisse de cèdre, et la peint de vermillon!
That saith, I will build me a wide house and large chambers, and cutteth him out windows; and [it is] cieled with cedar, and painted with vermilion.
15 Crois-tu que tu règnes, parce que tu te piques d'employer du cèdre? Ton père ne mangeait-il pas, ne buvait-il pas?… mais il faisait droit et justice, et il fut heureux;
Shalt thou reign, because thou closest [thyself] in cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, [and] then [it was] well with him?
16 il jugeait la cause du misérable et du pauvre, et il fut heureux. N'est-ce pas là me connaître? dit l'Éternel.
He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then [it was] well [with him: was] not this to know me? saith the LORD.
17 Mais tu n'as des yeux et un cœur que pour ta cupidité, et pour le sang innocent afin de le répandre, et pour la violence et la concussion, afin de l'exercer.
But thine eyes and thine heart [are] not but for thy covetousness, and for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do [it].
18 Aussi, voici ce que l'Éternel prononce sur Jéhojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda: Pour lui on ne s'écriera pas dans le deuil: « Hélas! mon frère! » ni « Hélas! ma sœur! » pour lui on ne s'écriera point: « Hélas! Seigneur! hélas! sa majesté! »
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, [saying], Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! they shall not lament for him, [saying], Ah lord! or, Ah his glory!
19 Il recevra la sépulture qu'on donne à un âne, il sera traîné, et jeté loin des portes de Jérusalem.
He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.
20 [Jérusalem], monte sur le Liban, et pousse des cris; et en Basan fais retentir ta voix, et crie du haut d'Abarim! car tous tes amants sont exterminés.
Go up to Lebanon, and cry; and lift up thy voice in Bashan, and cry from the passages: for all thy lovers are destroyed.
21 Je t'ai parlé pendant tes prospérités; tu as dit: Je ne veux pas écouter. Telle a été ta conduite dès ta jeunesse, que tu n'as pas écouté ma voix.
I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; [but] thou saidst, I will not hear. This [hath been] thy manner from thy youth, that thou obeyedst not my voice.
22 Tous tes pasteurs seront la pâture du vent, et tes amants iront en captivité; alors tu seras dans l'opprobre et dans l'ignominie à cause de toute ta méchanceté.
The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into captivity: surely then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness.
23 Toi qui habites le Liban, et bâtis ton aire sur les cèdres, que tu seras à plaindre quand te surviendront les douleurs, les maux comme à la femme en travail!
O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail!
24 Par ma vie, dit l'Éternel, quand Chonia, fils de Jéhojakim, roi de Juda, serait un cachet à ma main droite, d'ici je t'arracherais.
[As] I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck thee thence;
25 Je te livre aux mains de ceux qui en veulent à ta vie, et aux mains de ceux devant lesquels tu as peur, et aux mains de Nébucadnézar, roi de Babel, et aux mains des Chaldéens.
And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand [of them] whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
26 Et je te lancerai, toi et ta mère qui t'a enfanté, dans un autre pays où vous n'êtes pas nés, et vous mourrez là.
And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.
27 Et dans le pays où votre âme aspire à revenir, ils ne reviendront pas.
But to the land whereunto they desire to return, thither shall they not return.
28 « Est-il donc un vase de rebut, mis en pièces, cet homme-là, Chonia, ou bien un meuble dont on est dégoûté? Pourquoi sont-ils jetés, lui et sa race, et lancés dans un pays qu'ils ne connaissent pas? »
[Is] this man Coniah a despised broken idol? [is he] a vessel wherein [is] no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?
29 Terre, terre, terre, écoute la parole de l'Éternel!
O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.
30 Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Inscrivez cet homme comme n'ayant point d'enfants, comme un homme qui ne prospère point en ses jours, car aucun des siens ne sera assez heureux pour s'asseoir au trône de David, et pour régner désormais en Juda.
Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man [that] shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.
