Isaïe 31
1 Malheur à ceux qui vont en Egypte chercher du secours, et qui se fient dans les chevaux, et se confient dans les chars, parce qu'ils sont nombreux, et dans la cavalerie, parce qu'elle est très forte, mais ne regardent pas vers le Saint d'Israël, et ne s'adressent pas à l'Éternel!
Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, and trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, and they do not seek the LORD.
2 Cependant Il est sage aussi, et Il amène les maux et ne retire pas ses paroles, et Il se lève contre la maison des méchants et contre le secours des artisans d'iniquité.
Yet he also is wise, and will bring disaster, and will not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against those who help evildoers.
3 Eh! l'Égyptien est homme et non dieu, et ses chevaux sont chair et non esprit. Or, l'Éternel va étendre la main, et le protecteur trébuchera, et le protégé tombera, et ensemble ils périront tous.
Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out his hand, both he who helps shall stumble, and he who is helped shall fall, and they all shall be consumed together.
4 Car ainsi me parle l'Éternel: De même que gronde sur sa proie le lion, et le lionceau contre lequel on a réuni des bergers en foule, et qui à leur voix ne tremble pas, et devant leur nombre ne plie pas; ainsi l'Éternel des armées descendra pour combattre sur la montagne de Sion, et sur sa sommité.
For thus says the LORD to me, "As the lion and the young lion growling over his prey, if a multitude of shepherds is called together against him, will not be dismayed at their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them, so the LORD of hosts will come down to fight on Mount Zion and on its heights.
5 Tels des oiseaux déployant leurs ailes, tel l'Éternel des armées couvrira Jérusalem, couvrant et sauvant, épargnant et délivrant.
As birds hovering, so the LORD of hosts will protect Jerusalem. He will protect and deliver it. He will pass over and preserve it."
6 Revenez à Celui de qui il y eut profond abandon, enfants d'Israël!
Return to him from whom you have deeply revolted, children of Israel.
7 Oui, en ce jour chacun répudiera ses idoles d'argent et ses idoles d'or, que vos mains vous fabriquèrent pour pécher.
For in that day everyone shall cast away his idols of silver and his idols of gold—sin which your own hands have made for you.
8 Et Assur périra par une épée non humaine, et une épée non humaine en fera sa proie, et il fuira devant l'épée, et ses jeunes hommes seront esclaves.
"The Assyrian will fall by the sword, not of man; and the sword, not of humankind, shall devour him. He will flee from the sword, and his young men will become subject to forced labor.
9 Dans son effroi il passe outre devant sa propre forteresse, et la peur chasse ses chefs loin des drapeaux, dit l'Éternel dont le feu est sur Sion et le foyer en Jérusalem.
His rock will pass away by reason of terror, and his officers will be afraid of the banner," says the LORD, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.
