Osée 4
1 Écoutez la parole de l'Éternel, enfants d'Israël! car l'Éternel fait le procès aux habitants du pays; car il n'y a ni vérité, ni amour, ni connaissance de Dieu dans le pays.
Heare the worde of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord hath a controuersie with the inhabitants of the lande, because there is no trueth nor mercie nor knowledge of God in the lande.
2 On jure et l'on ment, l'on est homicide, et voleur et adultère; ils font des violences; au meurtre succède le meurtre.
By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and whoring they breake out, and blood toucheth blood.
3 Aussi, le pays est en deuil, et tous ses habitants dans la langueur, et les bêtes des champs et les oiseaux des Cieux, même les poissons de la mer disparaissent.
Therefore shall the land mourne, and euery one that dwelleth therein, shall be cut off, with the beasts of the fielde, and with the foules of the heauen, and also the fishes of the sea shall be taken away.
4 Mais que nul ne conteste, et que nul ne reprenne! car ton peuple est comme ceux qui contestent contre les sacrificateurs.
Yet let none rebuke, nor reproue another: for thy people are as they that rebuke the Priest.
5 Ainsi tu tomberas de jour, et avec toi le prophète aussi tombera de nuit, et je détruirai ta mère.
Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the Prophet shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.
6 Mon peuple est détruit faute d'avoir la connaissance… Et toi, puisque tu dédaignes la connaissance, je te dédaignerai aussi, et tu ne seras plus mon sacrificateur, et puisque tu oublies la loi de ton Dieu, j'oublierai aussi tes enfants.
My people are destroyed for lacke of knowledge: because thou hast refused knowledge, I will also refuse thee, that thou shalt be no Priest to me: and seeing thou hast forgotten the Lawe of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
7 Plus ils s'accroissent, plus ils pèchent contre moi: je changerai leur gloire en ignominie.
As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I chaunge their glorie into shame.
8 Du péché de mon peuple ils tirent leur subsistance, et de son crime ils sont avides.
They eate vp the sinnes of my people, and lift vp their mindes in their iniquitie.
9 Aussi en sera-t-il du peuple comme du sacrificateur, et je les châtierai de leur conduite et je leur rendrai ce qu'ils ont fait.
And there shalbe like people, like Priest: for I wil visite their wayes vpon them, and reward them their deedes.
10 Ils mangeront et ne seront point rassasiés; ils seront impudiques et ne se multiplieront pas, car ils abandonnent le culte de l'Éternel.
For they shall eate, and not haue ynough: they shall commit adulterie, and shall not increase, because they haue left off to take heede to ye Lord.
11 L'impudicité et le vin et le moût ôtent le sens.
Whoredome, and wine, and newe wine take away their heart.
12 Mon peuple interroge son bois, et c'est son bâton qui l'avise, car l'esprit d'impudicité les a séduits; adultères, ils désertent leur Dieu.
My people aske counsell at their stockes, and their staffe teacheth them: for the spirite of fornications hath caused them to erre, and they haue gone a whoring from vnder their God.
13 Sur les cimes des montagnes ils sacrifient, et sur les collines ils encensent, sous le chêne et le peuplier et le térébinthe, parce que l'ombrage en est beau; c'est pourquoi vos filles sont impudiques et vos brus adultères.
They sacrifice vpon the toppes of ye mountaines, and burne incense vpon the hilles vnder the okes, and the poplar tree, and the elme, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall be harlots, and your spouses shall be whores.
14 Je ne saurais punir vos filles de s'être prostituées, ni vos brus d'avoir commis adultère; car eux-mêmes vont à l'écart avec des prostituées et sacrifient avec des courtisanes, et le peuple insensé court à sa perte.
I will not visite your daughters when they are harlots: nor your spouses when they are whores: for they themselues are separated with harlots, and sacrifice with whores: therefore the people that doeth not vnderstand, shall fall.
15 Si tu es impudique, ô Israël, que Juda ne se rende pas coupable! ne venez point à Guilgal! et ne montez point à Bethaven, et ne jurez point par la vie de l'Éternel!
Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Iudah sinne: come not ye vnto Gilgal, neither goe ye vp to Beth-auen, nor sweare, The Lord liueth.
16 Car telle une génisse indocile, telle Israël est indocile; maintenant l'Éternel les laissera paître comme des agneaux dans un pays ouvert.
For Israel is rebellious as an vnruly heyfer. Nowe the Lord will feede them as a lambe in a large place.
17 Éphraïm s'est alliée aux idoles: laisse-la faire!
Ephraim is ioyned to idoles: let him alone.
18 sitôt qu'est enlevée la table où ils boivent, ils se livrent aux impudicités; leurs princes ont pour l'infamie un amour singulier.
Their drunkennes stinketh: they haue committed whoredome: their rulers loue to say with shame, Bring ye.
19 Le vent l'emporte de ses ailes, et ils sont confus de leurs sacrifices.
The winde hath bounde them vp in her wings, and they shalbe ashamed of their sacrifices.
