Genèse 9
1 Alors Dieu bénit Noé et ses fils, et leur dit: Soyez féconds et vous multipliez et remplissez la terre.
God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, "Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth.
2 Et soyez craints et redoutés de tous les animaux de la terre et de tous les oiseaux des cieux, de tout ce qui rampe sur le sol et de tous les poissons de la mer: ils sont mis dans vos mains.
And the fear of you and the dread of you will be on every wild animal of the earth, and on every tame animal of the earth, and on every flying creature of the sky, and on everything that crawls on the ground, and on all the fish of the sea; into your power they are given.
3 Tout ce qui se meut ayant vie, vous servira d'aliment; aussi bien que la verdure des plantes, je vous donne tout.
Every moving thing that lives will be food for you. As I gave the green plants, I now give you everything.
4 Ce n'est que la chair dans son âme, son sang, que vous ne mangerez point.
But flesh with its life, its blood, you shall not eat.
5 Et c'est votre sang seul qu'en faveur de votre vie je redemanderai; je le redemanderai à tous les animaux, et je redemanderai la vie de l'homme à l'homme, à son frère, quel qu'il soit.
And surely I will require a reckoning for your lifeblood; from every animal I will require it, and from humans. From every human being I will require it for the life of his fellow human being.
6 Quiconque versera le sang de l'homme, par l'homme son sang sera versé, car Dieu a fait l'homme à son image.
Whoever takes a human life, by a human will his life be taken, for God made humankind in his own image.
7 Pour vous, soyez féconds et vous multipliez, et pullulez sur la terre et vous y multipliez.
And as for you, be fruitful and multiply, and increase abundantly on the earth, and subdue it."
8 Et Dieu dit à Noé et à ses fils avec lui:
God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying,
9 Pour moi, voici, j'érige mon alliance avec vous et avec votre race après vous,
"And as for me, look, I establish my covenant with you, and with your offspring after you,
10 et avec tous les êtres vivants qui sont à vos côtés, oiseaux, bétail et toute bête de la terre qui est à vos côtés, tous ceux qui sont sortis de l'arche avec vous, de tous les animaux de la terre.
and with every living creature that is with you: the flying creatures, and the tame animals, and every wild animal of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ship.
11 J'érige donc mon alliance avec vous à cet effet que dorénavant toute chair ne sera point exterminée par les eaux du déluge et que dorénavant il n'y aura plus de déluge pour détruire la terre.
I will establish my covenant with you; and all flesh will never again be cut off by the waters of the flood, neither will there ever again be a flood to destroy the earth."
12 Et Dieu dit: Voici le signe de l'alliance que j'institue entre moi et vous et tous les êtres vivants qui sont à vos côtés, pour la suite des âges à jamais:
God said, "This is the sign of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
13 je place mon arc dans la nuée pour qu'il devienne un signe d'alliance entre moi et la terre.
I set my rainbow in the cloud, and it will be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
14 Et lorsque je ferai surgir les nuées sur la terre, et que mon arc apparaîtra dans la nuée,
It will happen, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow will be seen in the cloud,
15 alors je me rappellerai l'alliance qui existe entre moi et vous et tous les êtres vivant en toute chair, et [qui stipule] que les eaux ne deviendront plus un déluge pour détruire toute chair.
and I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh, and the waters will no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16 Et l'arc étant dans la nuée, je le regarderai pour me rappeler l'alliance éternelle qui existe entre Dieu et tout être vivant en toute chair qui se trouve sur la terre.
The rainbow will be in the cloud. I will look at it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between me and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth."
17 Et Dieu dit à Noé: Tel est le signe de l'alliance que j'érige entre moi et toute chair qui se trouve sur la terre.
God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth."
18 Et les fils de Noé qui sortirent de l'arche étaient Sem, Cham et Japheth; or Cham était le père de Canaan.
The sons of Noah who came out of the ship were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Ham is the father of Canaan.
19 Ce sont là les trois fils de Noé, et c'est d'eux qu'est issue la population répandue sur toute la terre.
These were the three sons of Noah, and from them the whole earth was populated.
20 Et Noé commença à être agriculteur et il planta de la vigne.
Noah, a farmer, was the first to plant a vineyard.
21 Et il but du vin, et il se trouva ivre et il se découvrit au milieu de sa tente.
He drank of the wine and got drunk. He was uncovered within his tent.
22 Et Cham, père de Canaan, vit la nudité de son père, et le redit à ses deux frères dehors.
And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside.
23 Alors Sem et Japheth prirent le manteau et le mirent les deux sur leurs épaules, et marchèrent à reculons et couvrirent la nudité de leur père; mais leur visage était tourné, et ils ne virent point la nudité de leur père.
Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it on both their shoulders, went in backwards, and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned the other way, and they did not see their father's nakedness.
24 Et lorsque Noé se réveilla de son ivresse, il apprit ce que lui avait fait son fils cadet;
Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his youngest son had done to him.
25 alors il dit: Maudit soit Canaan, Serviteur des serviteurs qu'il soit pour ses frères!
He said, "Canaan is cursed. He will be servant of servants to his brothers."
26 Puis il dit: Béni soit l'Éternel, Dieu de Sem, et que Canaan soit son serviteur!
He said, "Blessed be the God of Shem. Let Canaan be his servant.
27 Que Dieu donne de l'extension à Japheth, et qu'il habite dans les tentes de Sem, et que Canaan devienne leur serviteur!
May God enlarge Japheth. Let him dwell in the tents of Shem. Let Canaan be his servant."
28 Et après le déluge Noé vécut trois cent cinquante ans;
Noah lived three hundred fifty years after the flood.
29 et la totalité des jours de Noé fut neuf cent cinquante ans, puis il mourut.
All the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years, then he died.
