Esdras 7
1 Et après ces choses sous le règne d'Arthachsastha, roi de Perse, Esdras, fils de Seraïa, fils de Azaria, fils de Hilkia,
Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,
2 fils de Sallum, fils de Tsadoc, fils d'Ahitub,
The son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub,
3 fils d'Amaria, fils d'Azaria, fils de Meraïoth,
The son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth,
4 fils de Zerachia, fils de Uzzi, fils de Bukki,
The son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki,
5 fils d'Abisua, fils de Phinées, fils d'Eléazar, fils d'Aaron, le Grand Prêtre,
The son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest:
6 cet Esdras revint de Babel; or il était un Scribe versé dans la Loi de Moïse, qu'a donnée l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël. Et le roi, en vertu de la main de l'Éternel, son Dieu, agissant sur lui, lui accordait toutes ses demandes.
This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he [was] a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him.
7 Et il vint [avec lui] quelques-uns des enfants d'Israël, des Prêtres et des Lévites, et des chantres et des portiers et des assujettis, à Jérusalem dans la septième année du roi Arthachsastha.
And there went up [some] of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.
8 Et ils arrivèrent à Jérusalem au cinquième mois; c'était la septième année du roi.
And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which [was] in the seventh year of the king.
9 Car ce fut le premier jour du premier mois que fut organisé le départ de Babel, et le premier jour du cinquième mois qu'il arriva à Jérusalem en vertu de la bonne main de Dieu agissant sur lui.
For upon the first [day] of the first month began he to go up from Babylon, and on the first [day] of the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him.
10 Car Esdras avait appliqué son cœur à l'étude de la Loi de l'Éternel, et à la pratique et à l'enseignement en Israël du statut et des lois.
For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do [it], and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.
11 Et voici la copie de la lettre que le roi Arthachsastha remit à Esdras, le Prêtre, le Scribe versé dans le texte des commandements de l'Éternel et de Ses statuts prescrits à Israël.
Now this [is] the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe, [even] a scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel.
12 « Arthachsastha, Roi des Rois, à Esdras, le Prêtre et savant consommé dans la Loi du Dieu du Ciel et cætera.
Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect [peace], and at such a time.
13 Par moi ordre a été donné que quiconque dans mon empire, faisant partie du peuple d'Israël et de ses Prêtres et de ses Lévites, est disposé à retourner à Jérusalem, peut partir avec toi,
I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and [of] his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.
14 puisque tu es délégué par le Roi et ses sept conseillers pour faire une enquête sur Juda et Jérusalem quant à la Loi de ton Dieu, que tu as en main,
Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seven counsellors, to enquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which [is] in thine hand;
15 et pour transporter l'argent et l'or que le Roi et ses conseillers ont spontanément donnés au Dieu d'Israël dont la Résidence est à Jérusalem,
And to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellors have freely offered unto the God of Israel, whose habitation [is] in Jerusalem,
16 ainsi que tout l'argent et l'or que tu auras trouvés dans toute la province de Babel, avec les dons spontanés faits par le peuple et les Prêtres pour la Maison de leur Dieu à Jérusalem.
And all the silver and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which [is] in Jerusalem:
17 C'est pourquoi tu auras soin d'acheter avec cet argent des taureaux, des béliers, des agneaux, et les offrandes et libations respectives, et de les offrir sur l'autel de la Maison de votre Dieu à Jérusalem.
That thou mayest buy speedily with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meat offerings and their drink offerings, and offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which [is] in Jerusalem.
18 Et quant à l'emploi que toi et tes frères trouverez bon de faire du reste de l'argent et de l'or, vous pourrez l'appliquer conformément à la volonté de votre Dieu.
And whatsoever shall seem good to thee, and to thy brethren, to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do after the will of your God.
19 Et la vaisselle qui t'a été remise pour le service de la Maison de ton Dieu, rends-la au complet devant Dieu à Jérusalem.
The vessels also that are given thee for the service of the house of thy God, [those] deliver thou before the God of Jerusalem.
20 Et pour les autres dépenses nécessaires à la Maison de ton Dieu, que tu seras dans le cas de faire, tu en tireras le montant du trésor du Roi.
And whatsoever more shall be needful for the house of thy God, which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow [it] out of the king’s treasure house.
21 Et de par moi Arthachsastha, le Roi, ordre est donné à tous les trésoriers de l'autre côté du Fleuve, que tout ce que vous demandera Esdras, le Prêtre et Scribe versé dans la Loi du Dieu du Ciel, se fasse ponctuellement
And I, [even] I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which [are] beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily,
22 jusqu'à la concurrence de cent talents d'argent et cent cors de froment et cent baths de vin et cent baths d'huile, et du sel en quantité illimitée.
Unto an hundred talents of silver, and to an hundred measures of wheat, and to an hundred baths of wine, and to an hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing [how much].
23 Tout ce qui est ordonné par le Dieu du Ciel, doit s'exécuter exactement pour la Maison du Dieu du Ciel, afin que [son] courroux ne fonde pas sur l'Empire, le Roi et ses fils.
Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?
24 Et notoire soit à vous que sur tous ces Prêtres, Lévites, chantres, portiers, assujettis et servants dans la Maison de ce Dieu vous n'avez pas le pouvoir d'imposer tribut, accise et droits de route.
Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.
25 Et toi, Esdras, avec la sagesse de ton Dieu que tu possèdes, établis des Juges et des Magistrats qui administrent tout le peuple de l'autre côté du Fleuve, tous ceux qui connaissent la Loi de ton Dieu; et ceux qui ne Le connaissent pas, instruisez-les.
And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that [is] in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that [are] beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know [them] not.
26 Et quiconque ne pratiquera pas la Loi de ton Dieu, et la Loi du Roi, de lui vous ferez rigoureuse justice, soit par la mort, soit par le bannissement, soit par l'amende sur ses biens, soit par la prison. »
And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether [it be] unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.
27 Béni soit l'Éternel, Dieu de nos pères, qui mit ainsi dans le cœur du roi la volonté d'honorer la Maison de l'Éternel à Jérusalem
Blessed [be] the LORD God of our fathers, which hath put [such a thing] as this in the king’s heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which [is] in Jerusalem:
28 et qui m'a concilié la faveur du roi et de ses conseillers et de tous les puissants princes du roi! Et je me fortifiai par la main de l'Éternel, mon Dieu, qui me couvrait, et je rassemblai les Chefs d'Israël pour se mettre en marche avec moi.
And hath extended mercy unto me before the king, and his counsellors, and before all the king’s mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the hand of the LORD my God [was] upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me.
