Exode 23

1 Tu ne répéteras pas de faux bruits; tu ne donneras point la main à l'impie pour être témoin inique.

Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thy hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.

2 Tu ne suivras point la foule dans le mal, et dans un procès tu ne déposeras point en déviant à la suite de la foule pour faire fléchir [la loi].

Thou shalt not follow a multitude to [do] evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest [judgment]:

3 Pour le pauvre même tu ne seras point partial, quand il est en cause.

Neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.

4 Si tu rencontres le bœuf de ton ennemi ou son âne égaré, ramène-le-lui.

If thou shalt meet thy enemy's ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again.

5 Si tu vois l'âne de ton ennemi succombant sous le faix et que tu répugnes à l'en dégager, joins-toi à lui pour le dégager.

If thou shalt see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him.

6 Ne fais pas plier le droit de ton indigent quand il plaide.

Thou shalt not wrest the judgment of thy poor in his cause.

7 Tiens-toi loin d'une cause inique, et ne sois le meurtrier ni de l'innocent ni du juste; car je n'absous point l'impie.

Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked.

8 N'accepte pas de présent; car les présents aveuglent les clairvoyants et ruinent la cause des justes.

And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous.

9 N'opprime pas l'étranger, car vous savez ce que l'étranger a dans l'âme, ayant été vous-mêmes étrangers dans le pays d'Egypte.

Also thou shalt not oppress a stranger; for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

10 Six années tu ensemenceras ton sol, et en récolteras le produit;

And six years thou shalt sow thy land, and shalt gather in the fruits thereof:

11 mais la septième, tu le laisseras en repos et en jachère, afin que les indigents de ton peuple en jouissent, et ce qu'ils laisseront servira de pâturage aux bêtes des champs. Ainsi feras-tu avec tes vignes et tes olivaies.

But the seventh [year] thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave, the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy vineyard, [and] with thy olive-yard.

12 Pendant six jours tu vaqueras à tes affaires, et le septième, tu chômeras afin que ton bœuf et ton âne aient du relâche et que le fils de ta servante et l'étranger puissent respirer.

Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest: that thy ox and thy ass may rest, and the son of thy handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed.

13 Et vous prendrez, garde à tout ce que je vous ai dit, et vous ne mentionnerez pas le nom d'autres dieux, qu'on ne l'entende pas sortir de votre bouche.

And in all [things] that I have said to you be circumspect: and make no mention of the names of other gods, neither let it be heard from thy mouth.

14 Trois fois dans l'année tu célébreras une fête en mon honneur:

Three times thou shalt keep a feast to me in the year.

15 Tu observeras la fête des azymes; sept jours tu mangeras des pains non levés, ainsi que je te l'ai commandé, à l'époque du mois des épis; car c'est alors que tu es sorti d'Egypte; et tu ne te présenteras pas devant moi les mains vides;

Thou shalt keep the feast of unleavened bread: (thou shalt eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded thee, in the time appointed of the month Abib; for in it thou camest out from Egypt: and none shall appear before me empty: )

16 et la fête de la moisson, des prémices de tes cultures, de ce que tu auras semé dans les champs; et la fête de la rentrée des fruits vers la fin de l'année, quand tu fais rentrer des champs tes récoltes.

And the feast of harvest, the first-fruits of thy labors, which thou hast sown in the field: and the feast of in-gathering, [which] is in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labors out of the field.

17 Trois fois l'année tous tes mâles se présenteront devant le Seigneur, l'Éternel.

Three times in the year all thy males shall appear before the LORD God.

18 Tu n'offriras pas sur du levain le sacrifice du sang de ma victime; et la graisse de ma fête ne sera pas gardée jusqu'au lendemain.

Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread; neither shall the fat of my sacrifice remain until the morning.

19 Tu apporteras à la maison de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, la fleur des prémices de ton sol. Ne fais point cuire un chevreau au lait de sa mère.

The first of the first-fruits of thy land thou shalt bring into the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.

20 Voici, j'envoie un ange devant toi pour te garder en chemin et t'amener au lieu que j'ai préparé;

Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.

21 prends garde à toi devant lui et écoute sa voix, et ne lui résiste pas, car il ne pardonnera point vos désobéissances, parce que mon nom est en lui.

Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name [is] in him.

22 Car si tu es docile à sa voix, et si tu fais tout ce que je prescris, je serai l'ennemi de tes ennemis et l'adversaire de tes adversaires.

But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy to thy enemies, and an adversary to thy adversaries.

23 Car mon ange te précédera et t'introduira chez les Amoréens et les Héthiens et les Phérisiens et les Cananéens et les Hévites et les Jébusites, et je les exterminerai.

For my Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in to the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, [and] the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I will cut them off.

24 Tu n'adoreras point leurs dieux et ne te laisseras point aller à les servir, tu n'imiteras pas non plus leur conduite, mais tu les détruiras et mettras leurs statues en pièces.

Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.

25 Et vous servirez l'Éternel, votre Dieu, qui alors bénira ton pain et ton eau, et je bannirai les maladies du milieu de vous.

And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he will bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.

26 Dans ton pays il n'y aura ni femme qui enfante avant terme, ni épouse stérile, et je te laisserai accomplir le nombre de tes jours.

There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: I will complete the number of thy days.

27 Je te ferai précéder par ma terreur, et je troublerai tous les peuples chez qui tu pénétreras, et je te montrerai le dos de tes ennemis.

I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thy enemies turn their backs to thee.

28 Et je te ferai précéder par les frelons qui chasseront devant toi les Hévites et les Cananéens et les Héthiens.

And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite from before thee.

29 Je ne les chasserai pas devant toi en une seule année, de peur que le pays ne devienne inculte et que tu n'aies contre toi les bêtes des champs multipliées.

I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land should become desolate, and the beast of the field should multiply against thee.

30 Je les chasserai peu à peu devant toi jusqu'à ce que tu te sois propagé et rendu maître du pays.

By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou shalt be increased and inherit the land.

31 Et je fixe tes limites de la Mer aux algues à la mer de Philistie, et du désert au Fleuve, car je veux livrer entre vos mains les habitants du pays, et tu les chasseras devant toi.

And I will set thy bounds from the Red sea even to the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the river: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand; and thou shalt drive them out before thee.

32 Tu ne leur accorderas point d'alliance, ni à eux ni à leurs dieux;

Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.

33 ils ne demeureront point dans ton pays de peur qu'ils ne te portent à pécher contre moi, car le culte que tu rendrais à leurs dieux te tournerait à piège.

They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee to sin against me: for if thou shalt serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to thee.
