Amos 8
1 Telle fut la vision qu'offrit à ma vue le Seigneur, l'Éternel; et voici, c'était une corbeille de fruits mûrs.
Thus the Lord GOD shewed me: and behold, a basket of summer fruit.
2 Et il dit: Que vois-tu, Amos? Et je dis: Une corbeille de fruits mûrs. Alors l'Éternel me dit: La fin vient pour mon peuple d'Israël, je ne lui pardonnerai plus désormais.
And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the LORD unto me, The end is come upon my people Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.
3 Et en ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, les chants des palais seront des gémissements; il y aura nombre de cadavres, et partout on les jettera en silence.
And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord GOD: the dead bodies shall be many; in every place shall they cast them forth with silence.
4 Entendez-le, vous qui vous acharnez contre l'indigent pour anéantir les pauvres dans le pays,
Hear this, O ye that would swallow up the needy, and cause the poor of the land to fail,
5 qui dites: Quand sera passée la nouvelle lune, pour que nous vendions du blé? et le sabbat, pour que nous ouvrions les greniers, mesurant avec un épha réduit, pesant avec un sicle plus fort et faussant la balance pour frauder?
saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat? making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and dealing falsely with balances of deceit;
6 que nous achetions les petits à prix d'argent, et les pauvres pour une paire de sandales, et vendions les criblures du blé?
that we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes, and sell the refuse of the wheat.
7 L'Éternel le jure par la gloire de Jacob: Jamais je n'oublierai tout ce que vous avez fait.
The LORD hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.
8 Le pays n'en tremblera-t-il pas, et chacun de ses habitants n'en sera-t-il pas attristé? Ne se soulèvera-t-il pas tout entier comme un fleuve? ne se gonflera-t-il pas pour s'affaisser comme le fleuve d'Egypte?
Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? yea, it shall rise up wholly like the River; and it shall be troubled and sink again, like the River of Egypt.
9 Et en ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, je ferai coucher le soleil à midi, et j'obscurcirai le pays en plein jour.
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day.
10 Et je changerai vos fêtes en deuil, et tous vos chants en complaintes, et je mettrai sur tous les reins le cilice, et je rendrai chauves toutes les têtes, et je couvrirai [le pays] du deuil qu'on prend pour un fils unique, et sa fin sera comme un jour d'amertume.
And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning for an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.
11 Voici, des jours viennent, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, où j'enverrai une disette dans le pays, non point une disette de pain, ni une soif d'eau, mais celle d'ouïr les paroles de l'Éternel.
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD.
12 Alors ils seront errants d'une mer à l'autre mer, et vers le nord et vers l'orient ils se précipiteront pour aller en quête de la parole de l'Éternel, mais ils ne la trouveront pas.
And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east; they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.
13 Dans ce temps-là les belles vierges et les jeunes hommes languiront altérés.
In that day shall the fair virgins and the young men faint for thirst.
14 Ceux qui jurent par le délit de Samarie et disent: « Par la vie de ton Dieu, Dan! et vive la voie de Béerséba! » tomberont pour ne plus se relever.
They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, As thy God, O Dan, liveth; and, As the way of Beer-sheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.
