1 Et lorsque l'Éternel dans l'ouragan éleva Élie au ciel, Élie et Elisée partaient de Guilgal.
And it came to pass, when the Lord was going to take Eliu with a whirlwind as it were into heaven, that Eliu and Elisaie went out of Galgala.
2 Et Élie dit à Elisée: Reste donc ici, car l'Éternel m'envoie à Béthel. Et Elisée dit: Par la vie de l'Éternel et par la vie de ton âme, je ne te quitte pas! Ils descendirent donc à Béthel.
And Eliu said to Elisaie, Stay here, I pray you; for God has sent me to Baethel. And Elisaie said, [As] the Lord lives and your soul lives, I will not leave you; so they came to Baethel.
3 Alors les fils des prophètes qui étaient à Béthel, sortirent vers Elisée et lui dirent: Sais-tu qu'aujourd'hui l'Éternel enlève ton maître au-dessus de ta tête? Et il répondit: Je le sais aussi: silence!
And the sons of the prophets who were in Baethel came to Elisaie, and said to him, Do you know, that the Lord this day is going to take your lord away from your head? And he said, Yes, I know [it]; be silent.
4 Et Élie lui dit: Elisée, reste donc ici, car l'Éternel m'envoie à Jéricho. Et il répondit: Par la vie de l'Éternel et par ta propre vie, je ne te quitte pas! Ils gagnèrent donc Jéricho.
And Eliu said to Elisaie, Stay here, I pray you; for the Lord has sent me to Jericho. And he said, [As] the Lord lives and your soul lives, I will not leave you. And they came to Jericho.
5 Et les fils des prophètes qui étaient à Jéricho, abordèrent Elisée et lui dirent: Sais-tu qu'aujourd'hui l'Éternel enlève ton maître au-dessus de ta tête? Et il dit: Je le sais aussi: silence!
And the sons of the prophets who were in Jericho drew near to Elisaie, and said to him, Do you know that the Lord is about to take away your master today from your head? And he said, Yes, I know [it]; hold your peace.
6 Et Élie lui dit: Reste donc ici, car l'Éternel m'envoie au Jourdain. Et il répondit: Par la vie de l'Éternel et par ta propre vie! je ne te quitte pas! Ils s'acheminèrent donc les deux.
And Eliu said to him, Stay here, I pray you, for the Lord has sent me to Jordan. And Elisaie said, [As] the Lord lives and your soul lives, I will not leave you: and they both went on.
7 Or cinquante hommes d'entre les fils des prophètes étaient en route et de loin ils s'arrêtèrent en face, comme les deux étaient arrêtés au Jourdain.
And fifty men of the sons of the prophets [went also], and they stood opposite afar off: and both stood on [the bank] of Jordan.
8 Alors Élie prit son manteau et le roula et frappa les eaux et elles se partagèrent mi-partie ça, mi-partie là, et les deux passèrent sur terre sèche.
And Eliu took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and struck the water: and the water was divided on this side and on that side, and they both went over on dry ground.
9 Et quand ils eurent passé, Élie dit à Elisée: Demande ce que je puis faire pour toi avant d'être enlevé d'avec toi! Et Elisée dit: Ah! puissé-je avoir une double portion de ton esprit!
And it came to pass while they were crossing over, that Eliu said to Elisaie, Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken up from you. And Elisaie said, Let there be, I pray you, a double [portion] of your spirit upon me.
10 Et il répondit: Tu demandes une chose difficile! Si tu peux me voir enlever d'avec toi, il te sera fait ainsi; sinon, cela n'aura pas lieu.
And Eliu said, You have asked a hard thing: if you shall see me when I am taken up from you, then shall it be so to you; and if not, it shall not be [so].
11 Et comme ils allaient et parlaient en marchant, voici venir un char de feu et des chevaux de feu qui les séparèrent l'un de l'autre, et Élie s'éleva dans l'ouragan vers le ciel.
And it came to pass as they were going, they went on talking; and, behold, a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and it separated between them both; and Eliu was taken up in a whirlwind as it were into heaven.
12 Or Elisée le vit et s'écria: Mon père! mon père! Char d'Israël et ses cavaliers! puis il ne le vit plus. Alors il saisit ses habits et les déchira en deux morceaux
And Elisaie saw, and cried, Father, father, the chariot of Israel, and the horseman thereof! And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his garments, and tore them into two pieces.
13 et il releva le manteau d'Élie qu'il avait laissé tomber, et rebroussa et se tint au bord du Jourdain.
And Elisaie took up the mantle of Eliu, which fell from off him upon Elisaie; and Elisaie returned, and stood upon the brink of Jordan;
14 Et il prit le manteau d'Élie qu'il avait laissé tomber et frappa les eaux et dit: Où est l'Éternel, Dieu d'Élie? Lors aussi qu'il frappa les eaux, elles se partagèrent mi-partie ça, mi-partie là, et Elisée passa.
and he took the mantle of Eliu, which fell from off him, and struck the water, and said, Where is the Lord God of Eliu? and he struck the waters, and they were divided hither and there; and Elisaie went over.
15 Et il fut vu par les fils des prophètes qui étaient à Jéricho vis-à-vis et qui dirent: L'esprit d'Élie repose sur Elisée. Et ils vinrent au-devant de lui et ils s'inclinèrent devant lui jusqu'à terre.
And the sons of the prophets who were in Jericho on the opposite side saw him, and said, The spirit of Eliu has rested upon Elisaie. And they came to meet him, and did obeisance to him to the ground.
16 Et ils lui dirent: Vois donc! il y a parmi tes serviteurs cinquante braves: qu'ils aillent donc à la recherche de ton maître. Pourvu que l'Esprit de l'Éternel ne l'ait pas enlevé et jeté sur l'une des montagnes ou dans l'une des vallées! Et il dit: N'envoyez pas!
And they said to him, Behold now, [there are] with your servants fifty men of strength: let them go now, and seek your lord: perhaps the Spirit of the Lord has taken him up, and cast him into Jordan, or on one of the mountains, or on one of the hills. And Elisaie said, You shall not send.
17 Et ils insistèrent auprès de lui jusqu'à le mettre dans l'embarras. Alors il dit: Envoyez! Ils envoyèrent donc les cinquante hommes qui cherchèrent trois jours, mais sans le trouver.
And they pressed him until he was ashamed; and he said, Send. And they sent fifty men, and sought three days, and found him not.
18 Et ils revinrent auprès de lui, qui cependant restait à Jéricho; et il leur dit: Ne vous avais-je pas dit: N'allez pas?
And they returned to him, for he lived in Jericho: and Elisaie said, Did I not say to you, Go not?
19 Et les gens de la ville dirent à Elisée: Vois donc! cette ville est un bon séjour, comme mon seigneur le voit; mais l'eau est mauvaise; et il y a de fréquents avortements dans la contrée.
And the men of the city said to Elisaie, Behold, the situation of the city [is] good, as [our] lord sees; but the waters [are] bad, and the ground barren.
20 Alors il dit: Procurez-moi un plat neuf et mettez-y du sel. Et ils le lui apportèrent.
And Elisaie said, Bring me a new pitcher, and put salt in it. And they took [one], and brought [it] to him.
21 Et il sortit et se rendit à la source des eaux, et il y jeta le sel et dit: Ainsi parle l'Éternel: J'assainis cette eau, et il n'en résultera plus ni mort, ni avortement.
And Elisaie went out to the spring of the waters, and cast salt therein, and says, Thus says the Lord, I have healed these waters; there shall not be any longer death thence or barren [land].
22 Ainsi l'eau a été assainie jusqu'à présent selon la parole d'Elisée qu'Elisée avait prononcée.
And the waters were healed until this day, according to the word of Elisaie which he spoke.
23 Et de là il monta à Béthel, et comme il montait la route, des petits garçons sortirent de la ville et l'assaillirent de pierres en lui disant: Monte, chauve! monte, chauve!
And he went up thence to Baethel: and as he was going up by the way there came up also little children from the city, and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, bald-head, go up.
24 Et il se retourna et les regarda et il les maudit au nom de l'Éternel. Alors deux ours sortirent de la forêt et déchirèrent quarante-deux de ces enfants.
And he turned after them, and saw them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And, behold, there came out two bears out of the wood, and they tore forty and two children of them.
25 Et de là il se rendit au mont Carmel d'où il regagna Samarie.
And he went thence to mount Carmel, and returned thence to Samaria.
