2 Chroniques 16

1 La trente-sixième année du règne d'Asa, Baësa, roi d'Israël, s'avança contre Juda et fortifia Rama pour couper entrée et sortie à Asa, roi de Juda.

In the six and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built Ramah, to the intent that he might let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

2 Alors Asa sortit de l'argent et de l'or des trésors du temple de l'Éternel et du palais royal et l'envoya à Ben-hadad, roi de Syrie, résidant à Damas,

Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king’s house, and sent to Ben-hadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,

3 avec ce message: Il existe une alliance entre moi et toi, et mon père et ton père: voici, je t'envoie de l'argent et de l'or; va! romps ton alliance avec Baësa, roi d'Israël, pour m'en débarrasser.

[There is] a league between me and thee, as [there was] between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.

4 Et Ben-Hadad écouta le roi Asa et envoya ses généraux d'armée contre les villes d'Israël, et ils firent main basse sur Ijon, et Dan et Abel-Maïm et tous les magasins dans les villes de Nephthali.

And Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-maim, and all the store cities of Naphtali.

5 Et à cette nouvelle Baësa renonça à fortifier Rama et fit cesser ses travaux.

And it came to pass, when Baasha heard [it], that he left off building of Ramah, and let his work cease.

6 Mais le roi Asa employa tout Juda pour faire enlever de Rama les pierres et le bois employés par Baësa, et il s'en servit pour fortifier Géba et Mitspa.

Then Asa the king took all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha was building; and he built therewith Geba and Mizpah.

7 Or dans le même temps Hanani, le Voyant, vint trouver Asa, roi de Juda, et lui dit: Parce que tu as pris pour appui le roi de Syrie, et que tu n'as pas pris pour appui l'Éternel, ton Dieu, pour cette raison l'armée du roi de Syrie a échappé à ta main.

And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the LORD thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand.

8 Est-ce que les Éthiopiens et les Libyens n'étaient pas des forces immenses quant au nombre, et aux chars et à la cavalerie? Mais parce que tu t'appuyais sur l'Éternel, Il les a livrés entre tes mains.

Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the LORD, he delivered them into thine hand.

9 Car les yeux de l'Éternel parcourent toute la terre pour soutenir ceux dont le cœur est tout à Lui. En cela tu as agi follement; car dès ce moment tu auras guerre à soutenir.

For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of [them] whose heart [is] perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

10 Et Asa fut mécontent du Voyant et le mit en prison, car il était en colère contre lui à ce sujet. Dans ce temps aussi Asa opprima des gens dans le peuple.

Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for [he was] in a rage with him because of this [thing]. And Asa oppressed [some] of the people the same time.

11 Les actes d'Asa, les premiers et les derniers, sont d'ailleurs consignés dans le livre des rois de Juda et d'Israël.

And, behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they [are] written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

12 Et, la trente-neuvième année de son règne, Asa eut une maladie des pieds qui le rendait fort malade; et même dans sa maladie il eut recours non pas à l'Éternel, mais aux médecins.

And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease [was] exceeding [great: ] yet in his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians.

13 Et Asa reposa à côté de ses pères, et il mourut dans la quarante-unième année de son règne.

And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign.

14 Et on lui donna la sépulture dans son tombeau qu'il s'était taillé dans la Cité de David, et on le coucha sur le lit qu'on avait garni de parfums et d'aromates préparés en pâte balsamique au moyen d'un baume, et on lui fit une combustion d'une magnificence extrême.

And they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odours and divers kinds [of spices] prepared by the apothecaries’ art: and they made a very great burning for him.
