1 Samuel 27

1 Et David se dit lui-même: Maintenant je puis au premier jour être enlevé par la main de Saül: il n'y a pour moi rien de mieux que de me sauver au pays des Philistins pour déjouer Saül qui se dégoûtera de me chercher encore dans tout le territoire d'Israël; ainsi, je m'échapperai de sa main.

David said in his heart, "I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me except that I escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel. So shall I escape out of his hand."

2 David partit donc et passa avec six cents hommes qui l'accompagnaient chez Achis, fils de Maoch, roi de Gath.

David arose, and passed over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

3 Et David demeura chez Achis à Gath, ainsi que ses hommes et leurs familles à chacun, David ayant avec lui ses deux femmes, Ahinoam de Jizréel, et Abigaïl, femme de Nabal, du Carmel.

David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelite and Abigail the Carmelite, Nabal's wife.

4 Et Saül eut avis de la fuite de David à Gath; mais il ne continua pas à le chercher.

It was told Saul that David was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again for him.

5 Et David dit à Achis: Si j'ai pu trouver grâce à tes yeux, que l'on me donne un lieu dans l'une des villes de la campagne, où je m'établisse; car comment ton serviteur resterait-il avec toi dans la cité royale?

David said to Achish, "If now I have found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in one of the cities in the country, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?"

6 Et le jour même Achis lui accorda Tsiklag. C'est pourquoi Tsiklag est dévolue aux Rois de Juda jusqu'aujourd'hui.

Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: why Ziklag pertains to the kings of Judah to this day.

7 Et la durée du séjour de David dans les terres des Philistins fut d'un an et quatre mois.

The number of the days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.

8 Et David et ses hommes firent invasion chez les Gessurites et les Girzites et les Amalécites; car dès les anciens temps ils habitaient le pays jusqu'à Sur, et jusqu'au pays d'Egypte.

David and his men went up, and made a raid on the Geshurites, and the Girzites, and the Amalekites. And look, the land was inhabited from Telem, going in the direction of Shur, as far as the land of Egypt.

9 Et David saccagea la contrée et ne laissa vivants ni homme ni femme, et il enleva du menu et du gros bétail et des ânes et des chameaux et des habits, et à son retour il vint chez Achis.

David struck the land, and saved neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the cattle, and the donkeys, and the camels, and the clothing; and he returned, and came to Achish.

10 Et Achis lui dit: Contre qui êtes-vous allés en course? Et David dit: Contre le Midi de Juda et le Midi des Jérahméhélites et le Midi des Kénites.

Achish said, "Against whom have you made a raid today?" David would say, "Against the Negev of Judah," or "Against the Negev of Jerahmeel," or "Against the Negev of the Kenizzites."

11 Mais David n'avait laissé vivants ni hommes ni femmes pour les amener à Gath, ayant cette pensée: Il ne faut pas qu'ils puissent faire rapport contre nous et dire: Ainsi a fait David. Et telle fut sa règle pendant toute la durée de son séjour dans les terres des Philistins.

David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring them to Gath, saying, "Lest they should tell of us, saying, 'David has done this, and this has been his way all the time he has lived in the country of the Philistines.'"

12 Et Achis avait confiance en David et disait: Il s'est mis en très mauvaise odeur auprès de son peuple, auprès d'Israël, et il sera toujours mon serviteur.

Achish believed David, saying, "He has made his people Israel utterly to abhor him. Therefore he shall be my servant forever."
