1 Rois 2

1 Et comme les jours de David avançaient vers la mort, il donna ses instructions à Salomon, son fils, en ces termes:

Then the dayes of Dauid drewe neere that he should die, and hee charged Salomon his sonne, saying,

2 Je prends le chemin de tout le monde, aie courage et sois homme!

I go the way of all the earth: be strong therefore, and shew thy selfe a man,

3 Observe ce que tu dois observer envers l'Éternel, ton Dieu, en suivant Ses voies et observant Ses statuts et Ses Commandements et Ses règles et Ses Ordonnances, tels qu'ils sont consignés dans la Loi de Moïse, afin que tu réussisses dans toutes tes entreprises et dans tous tes projets,

And take heede to the charge of the Lord thy God, to walke in his wayes, and keepe his statutes, and his commandements, and his iudgements, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and in euery thing whereunto thou turnest thee,

4 pour que l'Éternel exécute la promesse qu'il a prononcée sur moi, lorsqu'il dit: Si tes fils prennent garde à leur voie pour marcher devant moi fidèlement de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme, alors, ce sont Ses paroles, alors tu ne manqueras, jamais d'un homme qui occupe le trône d'Israël.

That the Lord may confirme his worde which hee spake vnto me, saying, If thy sonnes take heede to their way, that they walke before me in trueth, with all their hearts, and with all their soules, thou shalt not (sayd he) want one of thy posteritie vpon the throne of Israel.

5 Tu sais aussi ce que m'a fait Joab, fils de Tseruïa, comment il a traité les deux chefs militaires d'Israël, Abner, fils de Ner, et Amasa, fils de Jéther, qu'il a égorgés, versant en pleine paix le sang des combats dont il tacha la ceinture qu'il portait aux reins et la chaussure qu'il avait aux pieds.

Thou knowest also what Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two captaines of the hostes of Israel, vnto Abner the sonne of Ner, and vnto Amasa the sonne of Iether: whome he slewe, and shed blood of battell in peace, and put the blood of warre vpon his girdle that was about his loynes, and in his shooes that were on his feete.

6 Agis donc selon ta sagesse, et ne laisse pas ses cheveux blancs descendre en paix aux Enfers. (Sheol h7585)

Doe therefore according to thy wisdome, and let thou not his hoare head go downe to the graue in peace. (Sheol h7585)

7 Mais marque de la bonté aux fils de Barzillaï, le Galaadite; qu'ils soient de ceux qui sont nourris de ta table, car c'est ainsi qu'ils m'ont prévenu, lorsque je fuyais devant Absalom, ton frère.

But shew kindnes vnto the sonnes of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among them that eate at thy table: for so they came to me when I fled from Absalom thy brother.

8 Et voici, tu as à ta portée Siméï, fils de Géra, le Benjaminite, de Bahurim; c'est lui qui me maudit d'une malédiction horrible lorsque je m'en allais à Mahanaïm; toutefois il descendit à ma rencontre sur le Jourdain, et je lui fis par l'Éternel ce serment: Je ne te ferai point mourir par l'épée.

And beholde, with thee is Shimei the sonne of Gera, the sonne of Iemini, of Bahurim, which cursed mee with an horrible curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim: but hee came downe to meete me at Iorden, and I sware to him by the Lord, saying, I will not slay thee with the sword.

9 Mais ne le laisse pas impuni; car tu es un homme sage, et tu sais comment tu dois le traiter, et tu feras descendre sanglants ses cheveux blancs aux Enfers. (Sheol h7585)

But thou shalt not count him innocent: for thou art a wise man, and knowest what thou oughtest to doe vnto him: therefore thou shalt cause his hoare head to goe downe to the graue with blood. (Sheol h7585)

10 Ensuite David alla reposer avec ses pères, et il reçut la sépulture dans la Cité de David.

So Dauid slept with his fathers, and was buried in the citie of Dauid.

11 Et le temps que David régna sur Israël, fut de quarante ans; à Hébron il régna sept ans, et à Jérusalem il régna trente-trois ans.

And the dayes which Dauid reigned vpon Israel, were fourtie yeeres: seuen yeeres reigned he in Hebron, and thirtie and three yeeres reigned he in Ierusalem.

12 Et Salomon s'assit sur le trône de David, son père, et son empire fut bien affermi.

Then sate Salomon vpon the throne of Dauid his father, and his kingdome was stablished mightily.

13 Cependant Adonia, fils de Haggith, entra chez Bathséba, mère de Salomon; et elle dit: Est-ce la paix que tu apportes? Et il répondit: C'est la paix.

And Adonijah the sonne of Haggith came to Bath-sheba the mother of Salomon: and she saide, Commest thou peaceably? And hee said, Yea.

14 Et il ajouta: J'ai un mot à te dire. Et elle reprit: Parle!

He said moreouer, I haue a sute vnto thee. And she sayd, Say on.

15 Et il dit: Tu sais que j'avais la royauté, et que tout Israël voyait en moi son futur roi; mais il y a eu détournement de la royauté, qui est dévolue à mon frère; car il l'a de par l'Éternel.

Then he said, Thou knowest that the kingdome was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reigne: howbeit the kingdome is turned away, and is my brothers: for it came to him by the Lord.

16 Or maintenant je te fais une demande: ne me rebute pas! Et elle lui dit: Parle!

Nowe therefore I aske thee one request, refuse me not. And she said vnto him, Say on.

17 Et il dit: Veuille dire au Roi Salomon, car il ne te rebutera pas, qu'il me donne Abisag, la Sunamite, pour femme.

And he sayd, Speake, I pray thee, vnto Salomon ye King, (for he will not say thee nay) that he giue me Abishag the Shunammite to wife.

18 Et Bathséba dit: Bien! je parlerai en ta faveur au Roi.

And Bath-sheba sayd, Well, I will speake for thee vnto the King.

19 Là-dessus Bathséba entra chez le Roi Salomon pour lui parler en faveur d'Adonia. Et le Roi se levant vint au-devant d'elle et s'inclina devant elle, puis il s'assit sur son trône et l'on avança un trône pour la mère du Roi, et elle prit place à sa droite.

Bath-sheba therefore went vnto King Salomon, to speake vnto him for Adonijah: and the King rose to meete her, and bowed himselfe vnto her, and sate downe on his throne: and he caused a seate to be set for the Kings mother, and she sate at his right hand.

20 Et elle dit: J'ai à te faire une petite demande; ne me rebute pas! Et le Roi lui dit: Demande, ô ma mère, je ne te rebuterai pas!

Then she sayd, I desire a small request of thee, say me not nay. Then the King sayde vnto her, Aske on, my mother: for I will not say thee nay.

21 Et elle dit: Qu'Abisag, la Sunamite, soit donnée pour femme à ton frère Adonia.

She sayd then, Let Abishag the Shunammite be giuen to Adonijah thy brother to wife.

22 Alors le Roi Salomon répondit et dit à sa mère: Pourquoi demandes-tu Abisag, la Sunamite, en faveur d'Adonia? Demande donc pour lui la royauté, car il est mon frère aîné, pour lui et pour le Prêtre Abiathar, et pour Joab, fils de Tseruïa!

But King Salomon answered and sayd vnto his mother, And why doest thou aske Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? aske for him the kingdome also: for he is mine elder brother, and hath for him both Abiathar the Priest, and Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah.

23 Et le Roi Salomon fit serment par l'Éternel et dit: Qu'ainsi Dieu me fasse et pis encore! Il y va de la vie pour Adonia d'avoir dit ce mot!

Then King Salomon sware by the Lord, saying, God doe so to me and more also, if Adoniiah hath not spoken this worde against his owne life.

24 Maintenant donc par la vie de l'Éternel, qui m'a affermi et placé sur le trône de David, mon père, et qui m'a créé une maison selon sa promesse, aujourd'hui même Adonia subira la mort.

Now therefore as ye Lord liueth, who hath established me, and set me on the throne of Dauid my father, who also hath made me an house, as he promised, Adoniiah shall surely die this day.

25 Et le Roi Salomon dépêcha Benaïa, fils de Joïada, qui fit main basse sur lui, et il mourut.

And King Salomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and hee smote him that he dyed.

26 Et au Prêtre Abiathar le Roi dit: Va-t'en à Anathoth sur tes terres, car tu es digne de mort; mais en ce jour je ne te ferai pas mourir, parce que tu as porté l'Arche du Seigneur, l'Éternel, devant David, mon père, et que tu as souffert de tout ce que mon père a souffert.

Then the King sayd vnto Abiathar the Priest, Go to Anathoth vnto thine owne fieldes: for thou art worthy of death: but I will not this day kill thee, because thou barest the Arke of the Lord God before Dauid my father, and because thou hast suffered in all, wherein my father hath bene afflicted.

27 Et ainsi Salomon destitua Abiathar de sa charge de Prêtre de l'Éternel, à l'effet d'accomplir la menace de l'Éternel qu'il avait prononcée sur la maison d'Héli à Silo.

So Salomon cast out Abiathar from being Priest vnto the Lord, that he might fulfill the wordes of the Lord, which he spake against the house of Eli in Shiloh.

28 Et lorsque le bruit en vint à Joab (car Joab avait incliné du côté d'Adonia, lui qui n'avait pas incliné du côté d'Absalom), Joab se réfugia dans la Tente de l'Éternel, et saisit les cornes de l'Autel.

Then tidings came to Ioab: (for Ioab had turned after Adoniiah, but he turned not after Absalom) and Ioab fled vnto the Tabernacle of the Lord, and caught hold on the hornes of the altar.

29 Et le Roi Salomon eut avis de la fuite de Joab dans la Tente de l'Éternel: « Et voilà qu'il est près de l'Autel! » Alors Salomon envoya Benaïa, fils de Joïada, avec cet ordre: Va et fais main basse sur lui.

And it was tolde king Salomon, that Ioab was fled vnto the Tabernacle of the Lord, and beholde, he is by the altar. Then Salomon sent Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, saying, Goe, fall vpon him.

30 Benaïa vint donc dans la Tente de l'Éternel, et lui dit: Ainsi parle le Roi: Sors! Et il dit: Non! car ici je mourrai. Et Benaïa rapporta la réponse au Roi et dit: Ainsi a parlé Joab, et ainsi m'a-t-il répondu.

And Benaiah came to the Tabernacle of the Lord, and sayd vnto him, Thus sayth the King, Come out. And he sayde, Nay, but I will die here. Then Benaiah brought the King worde againe, saying, Thus sayd Ioab, and thus he answered me.

31 Alors le Roi lui dit: Fais comme il a dit, et frappe le et donne lui la sépulture, et décharge moi, ainsi que la maison de mon père, du sang que Joab a gratuitement versé.

And the King sayde vnto him, Doe as he hath sayd, and smite him, and bury him, that thou mayest take away the blood, which Ioab shed causelesse, from me and from the house of my father.

32 Et que l'Éternel reverse son sang sur sa tête, parce qu'il a été le meurtrier de deux hommes plus justes et meilleurs que lui, et les a égorgés avec le glaive à l'insu de David, mon père, Abner, fils de Ner, général d'Israël, et Amasa, fils de Jéther, général de Juda.

And the Lord shall bring his blood vpon his owne head: for he smote two men more righteous and better then he, and slew them with the sword, and my father Dauid knew not: to wit, Abner the sonne of Ner, captaine of the hoste of Israel, and Amasa the sonne of Iether captaine of the hoste of Iudah.

33 Que leur sang retombe sur la tête de Joab et sur la tête de ses descendants à jamais; mais que David et sa race et sa maison et son trône aient le salut en partage à jamais de par l'Éternel!

Their blood shall therefore returne vpon the head of Ioab, and on the head of his seede for euer: but vpon Dauid, and vpon his seede, and vpon his house, and vpon his throne shall there be peace for euer from the Lord.

34 Ensuite de cela Benaïa, fils de Joïada, monta, et fit main basse sur lui, et le tua; et il reçut la sépulture dans sa demeure au désert.

So Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada went vp, and smote him, and slewe him, and he was buryed in his owne house in the wildernesse.

35 Et le Roi lui substitua Benaïa, fils de Joïada, dans le commandement de l'armée, et le Roi remplaça Abiathar par le Prêtre Tsadoc.

And the King put Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada in his roume ouer the hoste: and the King set Zadok the Priest in the roume of Abiathar.

36 Et le roi envoya mander Siméï et il lui dit: Bâtis-toi une maison à Jérusalem et y demeure, et n'en sors pas pour aller çà et là!

Afterwarde the King sent, and called Shimei, and sayde vnto him, Buylde thee an house in Ierusalem, and dwell there, and depart not thence any whither.

37 Le jour où tu sortiras et passeras le torrent de Cédron, sache-le, tu es mort! que ton sang retombe sur ta tête!

For that day that thou goest out, and passest ouer the riuer of Kidron, knowe assuredly, that thou shalt dye the death: thy blood shall be vpon thine owne head.

38 Et Siméï dit au Roi: Bonne parole! Ton serviteur se conformera à l'ordre du Roi, mon Seigneur. Et Siméï resta dans Jérusalem longtemps.

And Shimei sayd vnto the King, The thing is good: as my lord the King hath sayd, so wil thy seruant doe. So Shimei dwelt in Ierusalem many dayes.

39 Et au bout de trois ans il advint que deux serviteurs de Siméï s'enfuirent chez Achis, fils de Maacha, Roi de Gath, et l'avis en fut donné à Siméï en ces termes: Voilà que tes serviteurs sont à Gath.

And after three yeres two of the seruants of Shimei fled away vnto Achish sonne of Maachah King of Gath: and they tolde Shimei, saying, Behold, thy seruants be in Gath.

40 Alors Siméï se mit en mouvement et sella son âne et s'en alla à Gath chez Achis pour réclamer ses serviteurs; et Siméï fit le voyage et ramena ses serviteurs de Gath.

And Shimei arose, and sadled his asse, and went to Gath to Achish, to seeke his seruantes: and Shimei went, and brought his seruants from Gath.

41 Et Salomon fut informé que Siméï était allé de Jérusalem à Gath et était de retour.

And it was tolde Salomon, that Shimei had gone from Ierusalem to Gath, and was come againe.

42 Alors le Roi envoya mander Siméï et lui dit: Ne t'ai-je pas assermenté par l'Éternel et adjuré en ces termes: Le jour où tu sortiras d'ici pour aller ça et là, sache-le, tu es mort? Et tu m'as répondu: Bonne parole! j'ai entendu.

And the King sent and called Shimei, and sayde vnto him, Did I not make thee to sweare by the Lord, and protested vnto thee, saying, That day that thou goest out, and walkest any whither, knowe assuredly that thou shalt dye the death? And thou saydest vnto mee, The thing is good, that I haue heard.

43 Pourquoi donc n'as-tu pas observé le serment fait devant l'Éternel et l'ordre que je t'avais intimé?

Why then hast thou not kept the othe of the Lord, and the commandement wherewith I charged thee?

44 Et le Roi dit à Siméï: Tu sais tout le mal dont ton cœur a la conscience et comment tu en as agi envers David, mon père; et l'Éternel fait retomber ta méchanceté sur ta tête;

The King sayde also to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickednes whereunto thine heart is priuie, that thou diddest to Dauid my father: the Lord therefore shall bring thy wickednesse vpon thine owne head.

45 mais le Roi Salomon sera béni, et le trône de David consolidé devant l'Éternel à jamais!

And let King Salomon be blessed, and the throne of Dauid stablished before the Lord for euer.

46 Et le Roi donna ses ordres à Benaïa, fils de Joïada, qui sortit et fit main basse sur Siméï qui mourut. Or la royauté fut affermie dans la main de Salomon.

So the King comanded Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada: who went out and smote him that he dyed. And the kingdome was established in the hand of Salomon.
