1 Dans le même temps Abia, fils de Jéroboam, était malade.

At that time, fell sick, Abijah son of Jeroboam.

2 Et Jéroboam dit à sa femme: Lève-toi donc et te travestis, de sorte qu'on ne se doute pas que tu es la femme de Jéroboam, et va-t'en à Silo! Voici, là est Ahia, le prophète, qui m'a annoncé que je deviendrais le roi de ce peuple.

Then said Jeroboam to his wife—Arise, I pray thee, and feign thyself another, that it be not known, that, thou, art the wife of Jeroboam, —and thou shalt go thy way to Shiloh, lo! there, is Ahijah the prophet, who promised I should be king over this people;

3 Et prends dans ta main dix pains et des gâteaux et une cruche de miel, et entre chez lui: il te révélera ce qui arrivera à l'enfant.

and thou shall take with thee ten loaves, and cracknels, and a bottle of honey, and shalt go unto him, —he, will tell thee what shall befall the young man.

4 Et ainsi fit la femme de Jéroboam, et s'étant levée elle se rendit à Silo chez Ahia. Or Ahia avait perdu la vue, car l'âge rendait ses yeux obtus.

And the wife of Jeroboam, did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and entered the house of Ahijah, —now, Ahijah, could not see, for his eyes were fixed, by reason of his old age.

5 Et l'Éternel avait dit à Ahia: Voici que la femme de Jéroboam vient pour requérir de toi un avis touchant son fils, parce qu'il est malade: tu lui parleras de telle et telle manière, et quand elle paraîtra, elle ne voudra pas être reconnue.

But, Yahweh, had said unto Ahijah—Lo! the wife of Jeroboam, coming to enquire something of thee, concerning her son, for he is sick, thus and so, shalt thou speak unto her, —though, when she cometh in, she feign to be a stranger-woman.

6 Et lorsque Ahia entendit le bruit de ses pas, comme elle entrait dans la porte, il dit: Entre, femme de Jéroboam! pourquoi donc ne veux-tu pas être connue? Pour moi, j'ai pour toi un message sévère.

So it came to pass, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she entered the doorway, that he said—Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam, —wherefore, is it that thou art feigning to be a stranger-woman, seeing that, I, am sent unto thee, with something hard to bear?

7 Va, dis à Jéroboam: Ainsi parle l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël: Parce que je t'ai élevé du sein du peuple, et établi prince de mon peuple d'Israël,

Go, say to Jeroboam—Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted thee out of the midst of the people, —and gave thee to be leader over my people Israel;

8 et que j'ai détaché le royaume de la maison de David et te l'ai donné, mais que tu n'as pas imité mon serviteur David qui a gardé mes commandements et m'a suivi de tout son cœur pour ne faire que ce qui est droit à mes yeux,

and rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it to thee, —and yet thou hast not been like my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me, with all his heart, to do only that which was right in mine eyes;

9 et parce que tu as fait pis que tous tes prédécesseurs, et que tu t'en es allé et t'es fait d'autres dieux et des images de fonte pour me provoquer et que tu m'as jeté en arrière de toi;

but hast made wicked thy doings beyond any who were before thee, —and hast gone and made thee ether gods, even molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast, me, behind thy back,

10 cela étant, voici je vais amener la calamité sur la maison de Jéroboam et j'arracherai à Jéroboam ceux qui pissent à la muraille, le mineur et l'émancipé en Israël, et je balaierai après la maison de Jéroboam comme on balaie les ordures, à fond.

therefore, behold me! bringing misfortune against the house of Jeroboam, and I will cut off the meanest pertaining to Jeroboam, whether shut up or left at large, in Israel, —and will consume after the house of Jeroboam, as one consumeth dung, till it be all gone:

11 Ceux qui mourront à Jéroboam dans la ville, seront mangés par les chiens, et ceux qui mourront dans la campagne, seront mangés par les oiseaux du ciel; car l'Éternel a parlé.

Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city, shall, the dogs, eat, and, him that dieth in the field, shall, the birds of heaven, eat, —For, Yahweh, hath spoken.

12 Quant à toi, lève-toi et regagne ta maison! comme tu mettras le pied dans la ville, l'enfant mourra.

Thou, therefore, arise, go to thine own house, —as thy feet are entering the city, the young man shall die.

13 Et tout Israël célébrera son deuil et lui donnera la sépulture, car seul de ceux de Jéroboam il recevra la sépulture, parce qu'il s'est trouvé en lui pour l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, quelque chose de bon dans la maison de Jéroboam.

Then shall all Israel lament for him, and bury him, for, this one, pertaining to Jeroboam, shall reach a burying-place, —because there hath been found in him something good toward Yahweh, God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.

14 Et l'Éternel se suscitera un roi dans Israël qui extirpera la maison de Jéroboam, née aujourd'hui et à naître encore.

Therefore will Yahweh raise up for himself a king over Israel, who will cut off the house of Jeroboam, this day, but why, even now?

15 Et l'Éternel frappera Israël [à le faire branler] comme branle le jonc dans les eaux, et arrachera Israël de ce sol excellent qu'il avait donné à leurs pères, et les dispersera par delà le Fleuve, parce qu'ils se sont fait des Astartés, provoquant l'Éternel.

Therefore will Yahweh smite Israel, as a reed shaketh in water, and will root out Israel, from off this goodly soil, which he gave unto their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River (Euphrates), —because they have made their Sacred Stems, provoking Yahweh to anger:

16 Et il livrera Israël pour les péchés de Jéroboam, dont il s'est rendu coupable et où il a entraîné Israël.

That he may deliver up Israel, —on account of the sin of Jeroboam, which he committed, and which he caused, Israel, to commit.

17 Et la femme de Jéroboam se leva et partit, et gagna Thirtsa; comme elle atteignit le seuil de la maison, l'enfant mourut.

Then arose the wife of Jeroboam, and went her way and entered Tirzah, —as, she, was coming into the entrance hall, the young man died.

18 Et tout Israël lui donna la sépulture et célébra son deuil, selon la parole de l'Éternel qu'il avait dite par l'organe de son serviteur Ahia, le prophète.

And, when they buried him, all Israel lamented him, —according to the word of Yahweh, which he spake through his servant Ahijah the prophet.

19 Le reste des actes de Jéroboam, ses guerres et son règne sont d'ailleurs consignés dans le livre des annales des rois d'Israël.

Now, the rest of the story of Jeroboam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold them! written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.

20 Et la durée du règne de Jéroboam fut de vingt-deux ans, et il reposa à côté de ses pères, et Nadab, son fils, régna en sa place.

And, the days which Jeroboam reigned, were twenty-two years, —and he slept with his fathers, and, Nadab his son, reigned, in his stead.

21 Et Roboam, fils de Salomon, régna sur Juda. Roboam, à son avènement, avait quarante-un ans, et il régna dix-sept ans à Jérusalem, la ville que l'Éternel avait choisie pour y placer son Nom, de préférence à toutes les Tribus d'Israël. Or le nom de sa mère était Naama, l'Ammonite.

And, Rehoboam, son of Solomon, reigned in Judah, —forty-one years old, was Rehoboam when he began to reign, and seventeen years, reigned he in Jerusalem, the city which Yahweh had chosen to put his Name there, out of all the tribes of Israel, and, his mother’s name, was Naamah, the Ammonitess.

22 Et Juda fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, et ils L'irritèrent plus que tout ce qu'avaient fait leurs pères par les péchés dont ils s'étaient rendus coupables.

And Judah did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, —and provoked him to jealousy, above all that their fathers had done, with their sins which they committed.

23 Et ils se bâtirent, eux aussi, des tertres et des colonnes et des Astartés et des Aschères sur toute colline éminente et sous tout arbre verdoyant.

And, they also, built for themselves high places and pillars, and Sacred Stems, —upon every high hill, and under every green tree.

24 Il y avait aussi des prostitués dans le pays; ils imitèrent toutes les infamies des nations que l'Éternel avait chassées devant les enfants d'Israël.

Moreover also, there were, male devotees, in the land, —they did according to all the abominable practices of the nations, which Yahweh dispossessed from before the sons of Israel.

25 Et la cinquième année du règne de Roboam, il arriva que Sisac, roi d'Egypte, s'avança contre Jérusalem.

And it came to pass, in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt, came up against Jerusalem;

26 Et il enleva les Trésors du Temple de l'Éternel et les trésors du palais royal, et il enleva tout et enleva tous les boucliers d'or qu'avait faits Salomon.

and took away the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the house of the king, yea, the whole, took he away, —and took away all the bucklers of gold, which, Solomon, had made.

27 Et pour les remplacer le roi Roboam fit des boucliers d'airain et il les commit aux soins des chefs des coureurs qui gardaient la porte du palais du Roi.

So King Rehoboam made, in their stead, bucklers of bronze, —and committed them unto the hand of the captains of the runners, who kept guard at the entrance of the house of the king.

28 Et toutes les fois que le Roi venait au temple de l'Éternel, les coureurs les portaient; puis ils les rapportaient dans la salle des coureurs.

And so it was, whensoever the king went into the house of Yahweh, the runners bare them, and then brought them back into the chamber of the runners.

29 Or le reste des actes de Roboam et tout ce qu'il fit, est d'ailleurs consigné dans le livre des annales des rois de Juda.

Now, the rest of the story of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are, they, not written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

30 Et il y eut toujours guerre entre Roboam et Jéroboam.

And there was, war, between Rehoboam and Jeroboam, continually.

31 Et Roboam reposa à côté de ses pères et reçut la sépulture avec ses pères dans la ville de David. Or le nom de sa mère était Naama, l'Ammonite. Et Abiam, son fils, régna en sa place.

So then Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David, and, the name of his mother, was Naamah the Ammonitess, —and, Abijah his son, reigned, in his stead.
