Luc 1
1 Plusieurs ayant entrepris d'écrire l'histoire des événements qui se sont accomplis parmi nous,
Forasmuch as many haue taken in hand to set foorth the storie of those things, whereof we are fully persuaded,
2 d'après ce que nous ont enseigné ceux qui en ont été les témoins oculaires dès le commencement, et qui sont devenus les ministres de la Parole,
As they haue deliuered them vnto vs, which from the beginning saw them their selues, and were ministers of ye word,
3 j'ai cru devoir aussi, après m'être soigneusement enquis de tous les faits, dès leur origine, te les raconter dans leur ordre, excellent Théophile,
It seemed good also to me (most noble Theophilus) assoone as I had searched out perfectly all things from the beginning, to write vnto thee thereof from point to point,
4 afin que tu reconnaisses la vérité des récits qui ont fait la matière de ton instruction.
That thou mightest acknowledge the certaintie of those things, whereof thou hast bene instructed.
5 Il y avait du temps d'Hérode, roi de Judée, un sacrificateur nommé Zacharie; il appartenait à la classe d'Abia, et sa femme, qui était une fille d'Aaron, se nommait Elisabeth.
In the time of Herod King of Iudea, there was a certaine Priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabet.
6 Ils étaient tous deux justes devant Dieu, et observaient tous les commandements et ordonnances du Seigneur, de manière à être sans reproches.
Both were iust before God, and walked in all the commandements and ordinances of the Lord, without reproofe.
7 Ils n'avaient point d'enfants, parce qu'Élisabeth était stérile; et ils étaient l'un et l'autre avancés en âge.
And they had no childe, because that Elisabet was barren: and both were well stricken in age.
8 Quand vint le tour de sa classe, et qu'il dut officier devant Dieu,
And it came to passe, as he executed the Priestes office before God, as his course came in order,
9 il fut désigné par le sort, selon les usages du sacerdoce, pour aller offrir les parfums dans le sanctuaire du Seigneur.
According to the custome of the Priests office, his lot was to burne incense, when he went into the Temple of the Lord.
10 Pendant que tout le peuple était dehors en prières, à l'heure qu'on offre les parfums,
And the whole multitude of the people were without in prayer, while the incense was burning.
11 un ange du Seigneur lui apparut debout, à droite de l'autel des parfums.
Then appeared vnto him an Angel of the Lord standing at the right side of the altar of incense.
12 Zacharie fut troublé à sa vue, et la frayeur s'empara de lui;
And when Zacharias sawe him, he was troubled, and feare fell vpon him.
13 mais l'ange lui dit: «Ne crains point, Zacharie, car ta prière a été exaucée: Elisabeth, ta femme, te donnera un fils, et tu le nommeras Jean;
But the Angel saide vnto him, Feare not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard, and thy wise Elisabet shall beare thee a sonne, and thou shalt call his name Iohn.
14 il sera pour toi un sujet de joie et d'allégresse, et beaucoup se réjouiront de sa naissance.
And thou shalt haue ioy and gladnes, and many shall reioyce at his birth.
15 Car il sera grand devant le Seigneur; il ne boira ni vin, ni liqueur enivrante, et il sera rempli du Saint-Esprit dès le sein de sa mère;
For he shalbe great in the sight of the Lord, and shall neither drinke wine, nor strong drinke: and he shalbe filled with the holy Ghost, euen from his mothers wombe.
16 il convertira bien des fils d'Israël au Seigneur leur Dieu,
And many of the children of Israel shall he turne to their Lord God.
17 et lui-même marchera devant Dieu dans l'esprit et la vertu d'Élie, pour «ramener les coeurs des pères vers les enfants, » et les rebelles aux sentiments des justes, afin de préparer au Seigneur un peuple bien disposé.»
For he shall goe before him in the spirite and power of Elias, to turne the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisedome of the iust men, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
18 Zacharie dit à l'ange: «A quoi reconnaîtrai-je la vérité de ce que tu m'annonces? car je suis vieux, et ma femme est déjà avancée en âge.»
Then Zacharias said vnto ye Angel, Whereby shall I knowe this? for I am an olde man, and my wife is of a great age.
19 L'ange lui répondit: «Je suis Gabriel, je me tiens devant Dieu; j'ai été envoyé pour te parler, et pour t'annoncer ces heureuses nouvelles.
And the Angell answered, and sayde vnto him, I am Gabriel that stand in the presence of God, and am sent to speake vnto thee, and to shew thee these good tidings.
20 Voici, tu seras muet, et tu ne pourras plus parler jusqu'au jour où se réalisera cette promesse, parce que tu n'as pas ajouté foi à mes paroles, qui s'accompliront en leur temps.»
And beholde, thou shalt be domme, and not be able to speake, vntill the day that these things be done, because thou beleeuedst not my words, which shalbe fulfilled in their season.
21 Cependant le peuple attendait Zacharie, et s'étonnait qu'il demeurât aussi longtemps dans le sanctuaire.
Now the people waited for Zacharias, and marueiled that he taried so long in the Temple.
22 Quand Zacharie sortit, il ne pouvait leur parler; et ils comprirent qu'il avait eu une vision dans le sanctuaire, ce que lui-même confirmait par signes: et il resta muet.
And when hee came out, hee coulde not speake vnto them: then they perceiued that hee had seene a vision in the Temple: For he made signes vnto them, and remained domme.
23 Lorsque les jours de son office furent accomplis, il s'en retourna chez lui.
And it came to passe, when the daies of his office were fulfilled, that he departed to his owne house.
24 Quelque temps après, Elisabeth, sa femme, devint enceinte, et elle se tint cachée durant cinq mois, «parce que, disait-elle,
And after those daies, his wife Elisabet conceiued, and hid her selfe fiue moneths, saying,
25 c'est une grâce cachée que le Seigneur m'a faite, quand il a daigné ôter l'opprobre qui pesait sur moi aux yeux des hommes.»
Thus hath the Lord dealt with me, in the daies wherein he looked on me, to take from me my rebuke among men.
26 Au sixième mois, Dieu envoya l'ange Gabriel dans une ville de Galilée, appelée Nazareth,
And in the sixth moneth, the Angell Gabriel was sent from God vnto a citie of Galile, named Nazareth,
27 vers une vierge fiancée à un homme de la famille de David, nommé Joseph. Cette vierge se nommait Marie.
To a virgin affianced to a man whose name was Ioseph, of the house of Dauid, and the virgins name was Marie.
28 L'ange lui dit en entrant: «Je te salue, toi qui es l'objet d'une grande grâce; le Seigneur est avec toi.»
And the Angel went in vnto her, and said, Haile thou that art freely beloued: the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29 Cette parole la troubla; et elle se demandait ce que pouvait bien être cette salutation.
And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and thought what maner of salutation that should be.
30 L'ange lui dit: «Ne crains point, Marie, car tu as trouvé grâce devant Dieu.
Then the Angel saide vnto her, Feare not, Marie: for thou hast found fauour with God.
31 Tu concevras en ton sein, et tu enfanteras un fils; et tu lui donneras le nom de Jésus.
For loe, thou shalt conceiue in thy wobe, and beare a sonne, and shalt call his name Iesus.
32 Il sera grand; on l'appellera Fils du Très-Haut; le Seigneur Dieu lui donnera le trône de David, son père;
He shall be great, and shall be called the Sonne of the most High, and the Lord God shall giue vnto him the throne of his father Dauid.
And hee shall reigne ouer the house of Iacob for euer, and of his kingdome shall bee none ende. (aiōn g165)
34 Mais Marie dit à l'ange: «Comment cela se fera-t-il, puisque je ne connais point d'homme?»
Then sayde Marie vnto the Angel, How shall this be, seeing I knowe not man?
35 L'ange lui répondit: «Le Saint-Esprit viendra sur toi, et la puissance du Très-Haut te couvrira de son ombre; aussi l'être saint qui naîtra de toi, sera-t-il appelé Fils de Dieu.
And the Angel answered, and said vnto her, The holy Ghost shall come vpon thee, and the power of the most High shall ouershadowe thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall bee borne of thee, shall be called the Sonne of God.
36 Et voici, Elisabeth, ta parente, a, elle aussi, conçu un fils dans sa vieillesse, et celle qu'on appelait stérile est dans son sixième mois:
And behold, thy cousin Elisabet, she hath also conceiued a sonne in her olde age: and this is her sixt moneth, which was called barren.
37 rien ne sera impossible à Dieu.»
For with God shall nothing be vnpossible.
38 Marie lui dit: «Je suis la servante du Seigneur; qu'il me soit fait selon ta parole.» Et l'ange la quitta.
Then Marie said, Behold the seruant of the Lord: be it vnto me according to thy woorde. So the Angel departed from her.
39 Dans ce même temps Marie partit, et s'en alla en hâte au pays des montagnes, dans une ville de Juda;
And Marie arose in those daies, and went into ye hil countrey with hast to a citie of Iuda,
40 étant entrée dans la maison de Zacharie, elle salua Elisabeth.
And entred into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabet.
41 Dès qu'Elisabeth eut entendu la salutation de Marie, son enfant tressaillit dans son sein, et elle fut remplie du Saint-Esprit.
And it came to passe, as Elisabet heard the salutation of Marie, the babe sprang in her bellie, and Elisabet was filled with the holy Ghost.
42 Elle s'écria à haute voix: «Tu es bénie entre les femmes, et le fruit que tu portes est béni.
And she cried with a loud voice, and saide, Blessed art thou among women, because the fruit of thy wombe is blessed.
43 Et d'où me vient cet honneur, que la mère de mon Seigneur vienne me visiter?
And whence commeth this to mee, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 Car, sitôt que la voix de ta salutation a frappé mon oreille, mon enfant a tressailli de joie dans mon sein.
For loe, assoone as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine eares, the babe sprang in my bellie for ioye,
45 Heureuse celle qui a cru à l'accomplissement de ce que le Seigneur lui a fait annoncer!»
And blessed is shee that beleeued: for those things shall be perfourmed, which were tolde her from the Lord.
46 Et Marie dit: «Mon âme glorifie le Seigneur,
Then Marie sayde, My soule magnifieth the Lord,
47 et mon esprit est ravi de joie en Dieu, mon Sauveur,
And my spirite reioyceth in God my Sauiour.
48 parce qu'il a jeté les yeux sur la bassesse de sa servante. «Car désormais toutes les générations me diront bienheureuse,
For hee hath looked on the poore degree of his seruaunt: for beholde, from henceforth shall all ages call me blessed,
49 parce que le Tout-Puissant a fait en moi de grandes choses: son nom est saint,
Because hee that is mightie, hath done for me great things, and holy is his Name.
50 et sa miséricorde détend d'âge en âge sur ceux qui le craignent.
And his mercie is from generation to generation on them that feare him.
51 Il a déployé la force de son bras; il a dissipé ceux qui s'enorgueillissaient dans les pensées de leurs coeurs;
Hee hath shewed strength with his arme: hee hath scattered the proude in the imagination of their hearts.
52 il a renversé les puissants de leurs trônes, et il a élevé les petits;
Hee hath put downe the mighty from their seates, and exalted them of lowe degree.
53 il a comblé de biens les affamés, et il a renvoyé les riches les mains vides.
Hee hath filled the hungrie with good things, and sent away the rich emptie.
54 Il s'est intéressé à Israël son serviteur, et, comme il l'avait dit à nos pères, il s'est souvenu de sa miséricorde
Hee hath vpholden Israel his seruaunt to be mindefull of his mercie
(As hee hath spoken to our fathers, to wit, to Abraham, and his seede) for euer. (aiōn g165)
56 Marie demeura avec Elisabeth, environ trois mois, puis elle s'en retourna dans sa maison.
And Marie abode with her about three moneths: after, shee returned to her owne house.
57 Cependant Elisabeth, étant arrivée à son terme, mit au monde un fils.
Nowe Elisabets time was fulfilled, that shee should be deliuered, and shee brought foorth a sonne.
58 Ses voisins et ses parents, ayant appris la grâce signalée que le Seigneur lui avait faite, l'en félicitèrent.
And her neighbours, and cousins heard tell howe the Lord had shewed his great mercie vpon her, and they reioyced with her.
59 Le huitième jour, on vint circoncire l’enfant, et on lui donnait le nom de Zacharie, qui était le nom de son père,
And it was so that on the eight day they came to circumcise the babe, and called him Zacharias after the name of his father.
60 lorsque sa mère prit la parole, et dit: «Non; il s'appellera Jean.»
But his mother answered, and saide, Not so, but he shalbe called Iohn.
61 Ils lui dirent: «Il n'y a personne dans ta famille qui porte ce nom-là; »
And they saide vnto her, There is none of thy kindred, that is named with this name.
62 et ils demandèrent par signes au père de l'enfant, comment il voulait qu'on le nommât.
Then they made signes to his father, howe he would haue him called.
63 Zacharie ayant demandé des tablettes, écrivit ces mots: «Son nom est Jean; » et ils en furent tous étonnés.
So hee asked for writing tables, and wrote, saying, His name is Iohn, and they marueiled all.
64 Au même instant, sa bouche s'ouvrit, sa langue se délia, il parlait, bénissant Dieu.
And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue, and he spake and praised God.
65 La crainte saisit tous les habitants des alentours, et, dans tout le pays des montagnes de la Judée, on parla de ces événements.
Then feare came on all them that dwelt neere vnto them, and all these woordes were noised abroade throughout all the hill countrey of Iudea.
66 Tous ceux qui les apprirent, les serraient dans leur coeur en disant: «Que sera-donc cet enfant?» En effet, la main du Seigneur était avec lui.
And al they that heard them, laid them vp in their hearts, saying, What maner childe shall this be! and the hand of the Lord was with him.
67 Zacharie, son père, fut rempli du Saint-Esprit, et il prophétisa en ces termes:
Then his father Zacharias was filled with the holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
68 «Béni soit le Seigneur, le Dieu d'Israël, de ce qu'il a visité et racheté son peuple.
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, because he hath visited and redeemed his people,
69 Il nous a suscité une Puissance libératrice dans la maison de David, son serviteur,
And hath raised vp the horne of saluation vnto vs, in the house of his seruant Dauid,
As he spake by ye mouth of his holy Prophets, which were since the world began, saying, (aiōn g165)
71 une Puissance qui nous délivrera de nos ennemis, et des mains de tous ceux qui nous haïssent.
That he would sende vs deliuerance from our enemies, and from the hands of all that hate vs,
72 Il a voulu faire miséricorde à nos pères, et il s'est souvenu de sa sainte alliance,
That he might shewe mercie towards our fathers, and remember his holy couenant,
73 selon la promesse qu'il avait faite par serment à Abraham, notre père,
And the othe which he sware to our father Abraham.
74 de nous donner, lorsque nous serions délivrés des mains de nos ennemis, de le servir sans crainte,
Which was, that he would graunt vnto vs, that we being deliuered out of the handes of our enemies, should serue him without feare,
75 en pratiquant sous son regard la sainteté et la justice tous les jours de notre vie.
All the daies of our life, in holinesse and righteousnesse before him.
76 «Et toi, petit enfant, tu seras appelé prophète du Très-Haut; car tu marcheras devant la face du Seigneur, pour préparer ses voies,
And thou, babe, shalt be called the Prophet of the most High: for thou shalt goe before the face of the Lord, to prepare his waies,
77 afin qu'il donne à son peuple la connaissance du salut par le pardon de ses péchés.
And to giue knowledge of saluation vnto his people, by the remission of their sinnes,
78 Car notre Dieu, dans ses tendres compassions, a fait lever d'en haut, sur nous, un soleil
Through ye tender mercy of our God, wherby the day spring from an hie hath visited vs,
79 qui doit éclairer ceux qui sont dans les ténèbres et dans l'ombre de la mort, afin de diriger nos pas dans le chemin de la paix.»
To giue light to them that sit in darknes, and in the shadow of death, and to guide our feete into the way of peace.
80 Or, le petit enfant croissait, il se fortifiait en esprit; et il se tenait dans les déserts, jusqu'au jour où il se fit connaître à Israël.
And the childe grewe, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the wildernesse, til the day came that he should shewe him selfe vnto Israel.
