Actes 4
1 Comme Pierre et Jean haranguaient la foule, survinrent les sacrificateurs, le commandant du temple et les sadducéens,
As they spoke to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came to them,
2 fatigués de ce qu'ils enseignaient le peuple et annonçaient, en la personne de Jésus, la résurrection des morts:
being upset because they taught the people and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
3 ils les arrêtèrent et les mirent en prison jusqu'au lendemain, car c'était déjà le soir.
They laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was now evening.
4 Toutefois un grand nombre de ceux qui avaient entendu ce discours, crurent, en sorte que le nombre des hommes s'éleva à environ cinq mille.
But many of those who heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.
5 Le lendemain, les magistrats des Juifs, soit anciens, soit scribes,
In the morning, their rulers, elders, and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem.
6 et notamment Anne souverain sacrificateur, Caïphe, Jean, Alexandre, et tous ceux qui étaient de la famille des souverains sacrificateurs, s'assemblèrent à Jérusalem,
Annas the high priest was there, with Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and as many as were relatives of the high priest.
7 et ayant fait comparaître les apôtres devant eux, ils leur demandèrent: «Par quelle puissance, ou au nom de qui avez-vous fait cela?»
When they had stood Peter and John in the middle of them, they enquired, “By what power, or in what name, have you done this?”
8 Alors Pierre, rempli de l'Esprit saint, leur dit: «Magistrats du peuple, et Anciens d'Israël,
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “You rulers of the people and elders of Israel,
9 puisqu'on nous interroge aujourd'hui à l'occasion d'un bienfait accordé à un infirme, et qu'on nous demande par quoi cet homme a été guéri,
if we are examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed,
10 sachez bien, vous tous, et que tout le peuple d'Israël le sache aussi, que c'est par le nom de Jésus-Christ de Nazareth, que vous avez crucifié, mais que Dieu a ressuscité des morts: c'est par lui que cet homme se présente devant vous, guéri.
may it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, this man stands here before you whole in him.
11 Jésus est «la pierre que vous, constructeurs, vous avez mise au rebut, mais qui est devenue la pierre angulaire; »
He is ‘the stone which was regarded as worthless by you, the builders, which has become the head of the corner.’
12 et il n’y a point de salut en aucun autre, car il n'y a sous le ciel, parmi les hommes, aucun autre nom qui ait été donné, par lequel nous devions être sauvés.»
There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given amongst men, by which we must be saved!”
13 Les sénateurs furent étonnés de voir l'assurance de Pierre et de Jean, d'autant qu'ils s'aperçurent que c'étaient des hommes du peuple sans instruction. Ils les reconnurent pour avoir été avec Jésus,
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and had perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled. They recognised that they had been with Jesus.
14 et, comme ils voyaient là, avec eux, l'homme qui avait été guéri, ils n'avaient rien à répondre.
Seeing the man who was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
15 Après les avoir fait sortir du sanhédrin, ils discutèrent entre eux, disant:
But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred amongst themselves,
16 «Que ferons-nous à ces hommes? Qu'ils aient fait un miracle insigne, c'est ce que tous les habitants de Jérusalem peuvent voir, et nous ne pouvons le nier;
saying, “What shall we do to these men? Because indeed a notable miracle has been done through them, as can be plainly seen by all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we can’t deny it.
17 mais afin que cela ne se divulgue pas davantage, défendons-leur avec menaces de parler désormais à qui que ce soit en ce nom-là.»
But so that this spreads no further amongst the people, let’s threaten them, that from now on they don’t speak to anyone in this name.”
18 Et les ayant rappelés, ils leur interdirent absolument de parler et d'enseigner au nom de Jésus.
They called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
19 Mais Pierre et Jean leur répondirent: «Jugez, s'il est juste devant Dieu, de vous écouter, plutôt que Dieu.
But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, judge for yourselves,
20 Pour nous, nous ne pouvons pas ne pas dire ce que nous avons vu et entendu.»
for we can’t help telling the things which we saw and heard.”
21 Ils les renvoyèrent avec de nouvelles menaces, ne sachant comment les punir, à cause du peuple, parce que tout le monde glorifiait Dieu de ce qui était arrivé.
When they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people; for everyone glorified God for that which was done.
22 En effet, l'homme qui avait été miraculeusement guéri, avait plus de quarante ans.
For the man on whom this miracle of healing was performed was more than forty years old.
23 Dès qu'on les eut relâchés, ils se rendirent auprès des leurs, et rapportèrent tout ce que les souverains sacrificateurs et les anciens leur avaient dit.
Being let go, they came to their own company and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them.
24 Après les avoir entendus, les frères élevèrent tous ensemble la voix vers Dieu, et dirent: «Souverain Maître, tu es le Dieu qui a fait le ciel, la terre, la mer et tout ce qu'ils renferment,
When they heard it, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord and said, “O Lord, you are God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them;
25 c'est toi qui as dit par la bouche de David ton serviteur: Pourquoi les nations ont-elles frémi de colère, et les peuples ont-ils formé de vains projets?
who by the mouth of your servant David, said, ‘Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot a vain thing?
26 Les rois de la terre se sont insurgés, et les magistrats se sont ligués contre le Seigneur et contre son Oint.»
The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers plot together, against the Lord, and against his Christ.’
27 En effet, Hérode et Ponce-Pilate se sont véritablement ligués, dans cette ville-ci, avec les nations et avec les peuples d'Israël contre ton serviteur Jésus, ton Oint,
“For truly, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed,
28 pour faire tout ce que ta main et ton conseil avaient arrêté;
to do whatever your hand and your counsel foreordained to happen.
29 eh bien! maintenant vois leurs menaces, et donne à tes serviteurs d'annoncer ta parole avec pleine assurance,
Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness,
30 en étendant ta main, pour qu'il s'opère des guérisons, et qu'il se fasse des miracles et des prodiges, par le nom de ton saint serviteur Jésus.
while you stretch out your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of your holy Servant Jesus.”
31 A peine eurent-ils prié, que le lieu où ils étaient réunis trembla: ils furent tous remplis du Saint-Esprit, et ils annoncèrent la parole de Dieu avec assurance.
When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were gathered together. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
32 La multitude des croyants n'était qu'un coeur et qu'une âme. Personne ne disait que ce qu'il possédait était à lui en propre, mais tout était commun entre eux.
The multitude of those who believed were of one heart and soul. Not one of them claimed that anything of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common.
33 Les apôtres rendaient témoignage avec beaucoup de force de la résurrection du Seigneur Jésus, et une grande grâce était répandue sur eux tous;
With great power, the apostles gave their testimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Great grace was on them all.
34 car nul parmi eux n'était dans le besoin. Tous ceux qui se trouvaient possesseurs de terres ou de maisons, les vendaient, en apportaient le prix,
For neither was there amongst them any who lacked, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold,
35 et le déposaient aux pieds des apôtres. Et l'on donnait à chacun selon le besoin qu'il en avait.
and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and distribution was made to each, according as anyone had need.
36 Joses, surnommé par les apôtres Barnabas, c’est-à-dire, fils d'exhortation, lévite originaire de Chypre, possédait un champ;
Joses, who by the apostles was also called Barnabas (which is, being interpreted, Son of Encouragement), a Levite, a man of Cyprus by race,
37 il le vendit, en apporta l'argent, et le déposa aux pieds des apôtres.
having a field, sold it and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
