Psaumes 36

1 Au chef des chantres. Du serviteur de l’Éternel, de David. La parole impie du méchant est au fond de son cœur; La crainte de Dieu n’est pas devant ses yeux.

For the end, by David the servant of the Lord. The transgressor, that he may sin, says within himself, [that] there is no fear of God before his eyes.

2 Car il se flatte à ses propres yeux, Pour consommer son iniquité, Pour assouvir sa haine.

For he has dealt craftily before him, to discover his iniquity and hate it.

3 Les paroles de sa bouche sont fausses et trompeuses; Il renonce à agir avec sagesse, à faire le bien.

The words of his mouth are transgression and deceit: he is not inclined to understand [how] to do good.

4 Il médite l’injustice sur sa couche, Il se tient sur une voie qui n’est pas bonne, Il ne repousse pas le mal.

He devises iniquity on his bed; he gives himself to every evil way; and does not abhor evil.

5 Éternel! Ta bonté atteint jusqu’aux cieux, Ta fidélité jusqu’aux nues.

O Lord, your mercy is in the heaven; and your truth [reaches] to the clouds.

6 Ta justice est comme les montagnes de Dieu, Tes jugements sont comme le grand abîme. Éternel! Tu soutiens les hommes et les bêtes.

Your righteousness is as the mountains of God, your judgments are as a great deep: O Lord, you will preserve men and beasts.

7 Combien est précieuse ta bonté, ô Dieu! A l’ombre de tes ailes les fils de l’homme cherchent un refuge.

How have you multiplied your mercy, O God! so the children of men shall trust in the shelter of your wings.

8 Ils se rassasient de l’abondance de ta maison, Et tu les abreuves au torrent de tes délices.

They shall be fully satisfied with the fatness of your house; and you shall cause them to drink of the full stream of your delights.

9 Car auprès de toi est la source de la vie; Par ta lumière nous voyons la lumière.

For with you is the fountain of life: in your light we shall see light.

10 Étends ta bonté sur ceux qui te connaissent, Et ta justice sur ceux dont le cœur est droit!

Extend your mercy to them that know you; and your righteousness to the upright in heart.

11 Que le pied de l’orgueil ne m’atteigne pas, Et que la main des méchants ne me fasse pas fuir!

Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of sinners move me.

12 Déjà tombent ceux qui commettent l’iniquité; Ils sont renversés, et ils ne peuvent se relever.

There have all the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast out, and shall not be able to stand.
