1 Lorsqu'au bout de vingt ans, Salomon eut achevé de bâtir le temple du Seigneur et son palais, il rassembla dans Sion tous les anciens d'Israël pour enlever de la ville de David (la même que Sion) l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur,

Then, did Solomon call together the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, chiefs of the fathers of the sons of Israel, unto King Solomon in Jerusalem, —that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, out of the city of David, the same is Zion.

2 Au mois d'Athanin;

So all the men of Israel came together unto King Solomon, in the month of steady flowings, at the festival, —the same is the seventh month.

3 Et les prêtres transportèrent l'arche,

And all the elders of Israel came in, —and the priests took up the ark;

4 Ainsi que le tabernacle du témoignage, et les objets consacrés dans le tabernacle du témoignage.

and they brought up the ark of Yahweh, and the Tent of Meeting, and all the hallowed vessels that were in the tent, —yea, the priests and the Levites, did bring them up.

5 Et le roi et tout Israël, devant l'arche, sacrifiaient des brebis et des bœufs en quantité innombrable.

And, King Solomon, and all the assembly of Israel who had assembled themselves unto him, were with him, before the ark, —sacrificing sheep and oxen, which could neither be recorded nor counted, for multitude.

6 Les prêtres introduisirent l'arche à sa place, dans l'oracle du temple, dans le Saint des saints, sous les ailes des chérubins.

So the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of Yahweh into its place, into the shrine of the house, into the holy of holies, —under the wings of the cherubim.

7 Car les chérubins déployaient leurs ailes au-dessus de l'emplacement de l'arche, et ils en couvraient l'arche et ses leviers.

For, the cherubim, were spreading forth their two wings, over the place of the ark, —and the cherubim made a covering over the ark and over the staves thereof, above.

8 Ces leviers étaient dressés, et leurs extrémités se voyaient dès l'entrée du Saint des saints devant l'oracle, mais on ne pouvait les voir du dehors.

And they drew out the staves, and the heads of the staves were seen from the holy place, in front of the shrine, although they were not seen on the outside, —and they have remained there until this day.

9 Il n'y avait rien dans l'arche sinon les deux tables de pierre, les tables de l'alliance que Moïse y avait déposées sur le mont Horeb, et sur lesquelles le Seigneur avait écrit son alliance avec les fils d'Israël lorsqu'ils revenaient de la terre d'Égypte.

There was nothing in the ark, save the two tables of stone, which Moses deposited there in Horeb, —the tables of the covenant which Yahweh solemnised with the sons of Israel, when they came forth out of the land of Egypt.

10 Or, quand les prêtres sortirent du Saint des saints il advint qu'une nuée remplit le temple.

And so it was, when the priests came forth out of the holy place, that, a cloud, filled the house of Yahweh;

11 Et les prêtres ne purent y demeurer, ni faire le service divin, à cause de la nuée; car la gloire du Seigneur avait rempli le temple.

so that the priests could not stand to minister, because of the cloud, —for, the glory of Yahweh, filled, the house of Yahweh.

12 Et les prêtres ne purent y demeurer, ni faire le service divin, à cause de la nuée; car la gloire du Seigneur avait rempli le temple.

Then, said Solomon, —Yahweh, said, that he would make his habitation in thick gloom:

13 Et les prêtres ne purent y demeurer, ni faire le service divin, à cause de la nuée; car la gloire du Seigneur avait rempli le temple.

I have, built, a house as a high abode for thee, —A settled place for thee to abide in, for ages.

14 Alors, le roi se retourna vers le peuple, et il bénit tout Israël, et toute l'Église d'Israël était restée debout.

And the king turned about his face, and blessed all the convocation of Israel, —while all the convocation of Israel was standing;

15 Et il dit: Béni soit aujourd'hui le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël, qui, de sa bouche, a parlé concernant David mon père, et qui de ses mains a rempli ses promesses, disant:

and he said—Blessed, be Yahweh, God of Israel, who spake with his mouth, unto David my father, —that which with his hand he hath fulfilled, saying: —

16 Depuis le jour où j'ai tiré de l'Égypte mon peuple Israël, je n'ai choisi en Israël ni ville, ni tribu, pour qu'on bâtit un temple où résidât mon Nom; puis, j'ai choisi Jérusalem pour que mon nom y réside, et j'ai choisi David pour qu'il soit sur mon peuple Israël.

Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel, out of Egypt, I had chosen no city, out of all the tribes of Israel, for building a house, where my Name might be, —but I have chosen Jerusalem, that my Name should be there, and I have chosen David, to be over my people Israel:

17 Or, mon père avait en son cœur la pensée de bâtir un temple au nom du Seigneur Dieu d'Israël.

And so it came to pass, that it was near the heart of David my father, —to build a house for the Name of Yahweh, God of Israel.

18 Et le Seigneur dit à David, mon père: En récompense de ce que la pensée t'est venue au cœur de bâtir un temple à mon nom, tu as fait de belles actions, parce que cette pensée était en ton cœur.

Then said Yahweh unto David my father, Because it was near thy heart to build a house for my Name, thou didst well that it was near thy heart;

19 Néanmoins, tu ne bâtiras point ce temple, mais ton fils, qui sortira de toi, le bâtira à mon nom.

Only, thou thyself, must not build the house, —but, thine own son who hath proceeded out of thy loins, he, shall build the house, for my Name.

20 Le Seigneur a relevé la parole qu'il avait dite, j'ai été suscité à la place de David mon père; et je me suis assis sur le trône d'Israël, comme l'avait dit le Seigneur; et j'ai bâti un temple au nom du Seigneur Dieu d'Israël.

So then Yahweh hath established his word which he spake, —and I have been raised up in the room of David my father, and have taken my seat upon the throne of Israel, as spake Yahweh, and have built the house for the Name of Yahweh, God of Israel;

21 J'y ai préparé un emplacement pour l'arche qui renferme l'alliance du Seigneur avec nos pères, tandis qu'il les ramenait de la terre d'Égypte.

and have appointed there a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of Yahweh, —which he solemnised with our fathers, when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt.

22 Ensuite, Salomon se tint devant l'autel du Seigneur et devant toute l'Église d'Israël; il étendit les deux mains vers le ciel,

And Solomon stood before the altar of Yahweh, in the presence of all the convocation of Israel, —and spread forth his hands towards the heavens;

23 Et il dit: Seigneur Dieu d'Israël, il n'est point au ciel ni sur la terre de Dieu tel que vous, gardant alliance et miséricorde pour le serviteur qui marche de tout son cœur devant vous.

and said—O Yahweh, God of Israel! Not like thee, is there a God, in the heavens above, or upon the earth beneath, —keeping Covenant and Lovingkindness for thy servants who are walking before thee, with all their heart;

24 Vous avez gardé cette alliance et cette miséricorde, pour votre serviteur David; car vous avez parlé de votre bouche, et de vos mains vous avez rempli vos promesses; comme il se voit aujourd'hui.

who hast kept for thy servant David my father, that which thou didst promise him, —in that thou didst promise with thy mouth, and, with thy hand, hast fulfilled, as it is this day.

25 Maintenant, Seigneur Dieu d'Israël, gardez pour votre serviteur David, mon père, cette parole que vous lui avez dite: Il ne manquera jamais d'hommes de ton sang pour être assis sur le trône d'Israël devant ma face, pourvu que les enfants observent leurs voies, et qu'ils marchent à mes yeux comme toi-même as marché.

Now, therefore, O Yahweh, God of Israel, keep thou for thy servant David my father, that which thou didst promise him, saying, There shall not be cut off to thee a man from before me, to sit upon the throne of Israel, —if only, thy sons take heed to their way, by walking before me, as thou hast walked before me.

26 Maintenant, Seigneur Dieu d'Israël, que votre promesse à David mon père, votre serviteur, soit confirmée.

Now, therefore, O God of Israel, —verified be thy word, I pray thee, which thou didst speak to thy servant, David my father.

27 Est-il donc croyable que Dieu réside sur la terre parmi les hommes? Si le ciel et le ciel des cieux ne peuvent vous contenir, combien moins encore ce temple que j'ai bâti à votre nom?

But, in very deed, will God dwell, upon the earth? Lo! the heaven, yea the heaven of heavens, cannot contain thee, how much less this house which I have built?

28 O Seigneur Dieu d'Israël, ayez égard à ma demande; écoutez aujourd'hui la prière que vous fait votre serviteur.

Yet wilt thou turn unto the prayer of thy servant, and unto his supplication, O Yahweh my God, —to hearken unto the cry, and unto the prayer, wherewith thy servant doth pray before thee to-day;

29 Que vos yeux soient ouverts nuit et jour sur ce temple, sur ce lieu dont vous avez dit: C'est là que sera mon nom; et écoutez-y la prière que vous y fait nuit et jour votre serviteur.

that thine eye may be opened toward this house, night and day, toward the place of which thou hast said, My Name shall be, there; hearkening unto the prayer which thy servant shall offer toward this place.

30 Oui, vous écouterez la prière de votre serviteur et de votre peuple Israël, toutes les fois qu'ils prieront en ce lieu; vous les entendrez du lieu que vous habitez au ciel; et vous agirez, et vous serez indulgent.

Wilt, thou, therefore, hearken unto the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, whensoever they shall pray toward this place, —yea wilt, thou thyself, hear, in thine own dwelling-place, in the heavens, and, when thou hearest, then wilt thou forgive?

31 Quelque péché qu'un homme ait commis contre son prochain, même quand il aura songé à le maudire, s'il vient, s'il se confesse, dans le temple devant votre autel,

When a man shall sin against his neighbour, and there shall be taken up against him an oath, to put him on oath, —and he shall come in and swear before thine altar, in this house,

32 Du haut du ciel vous l'entendrez et vous agirez, et vous jugerez le peuple d'Israël, de telle sorte que l'inique sera considéré comme inique; que vous ferez retomber sur sa tête son égarement dans ses voies, que le juste sera justifié, et que vous le rétribuerez selon son équité.

then wilt, thou thyself, hear in the heavens, and act, and judge thy servants, condemning the lawless, by setting his way upon his own head, —and justifying the righteous, by giving to him, according to his righteousness?

33 Lorsque votre peuple Israël tombera devant ses ennemis parce qu'il aura péché contre vous, ils se convertiront, ils rendront gloire au nom du Seigneur; ils prieront, et ils supplieront en votre temple:

When thy people Israel are smitten before an enemy, because they have been sinning against thee, —and they turn again unto thee, and confess thy Name, and pray and make supplication unto thee, in this house,

34 Alors, du haut du ciel vous les écouterez, vous leur remettrez leurs péchés, et vous les ramènerez dans la terre que vous avez donnée à leurs pères.

then wilt, thou thyself, hear in the heavens, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them back unto the soil, which thou gavest unto their fathers?

35 Lorsque vous aurez fermé le ciel, et qu'il n'y aura plus de pluie parce que les fils d'Israël auront péché contre vous, ils prieront en ce lieu; ils rendront gloire au nom du Seigneur, et ils détesteront leurs péchés, après que vous les aurez humiliés,

When the heavens are shut up, and there is no rain, because they have been sinning against thee, —and they shall pray toward this place, and confess thy Name, and, from their sin, shall return, because thou hast been afflicting them,

36 Et du haut du ciel vous les écouterez, et vous remettrez les péchés de vos serviteurs, de votre peuple; vous leur montrerez la bonne voie qu'ils doivent suivre, et vous accorderez de la pluie à la terre que vous avez donnée pour héritage à votre peuple.

then wilt, thou thyself, hear in the heavens and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou mayest teach them the good way, wherein they should walk, —and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people, for an inheritance?

37 Lorsqu'il y aura famine, lorsqu'il y aura mortalité par suite de la chaleur brûlante ou du ravage des sauterelles, lorsqu'il y aura rouille des blés, lorsqu'un ennemi opprimera le peuple en l'une de ses villes, lorsqu'il y aura partout accident et peine,

When there shall be, famine, in the land, when there shall be, pestilence, when there shall be, blasting, mildew locust, caterpillar, when their enemy shall besiege them in one of their own gates, —whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness;

38 Toute prière, toute supplication que l'homme vous fera dans le temple les mains étendues, après avoir reconnu la plaie de son cœur,

any prayer, any supplication which, any son of earth, may have, of all thy people Israel, —who will certainly know every man the plague of his own heart, and so he shall spread abroad his hands towards this house,

39 Vous l'écouterez du haut du ciel, du lieu où est votre demeure; vous serez miséricordieux, vous agirez et vous rétribuerez l'homme selon sa voie, selon ce que vous aurez vu dans son cœur, car vous seul connaissez le cœur de tous les fils des hommes.

then wilt, thou thyself, hear in the heavens, in the settled place of thine abode, and forgive and act, and give unto every man according to all his ways, whose heart thou wilt know, —for, thou thyself alone, knowest the heart of all the sons of men;

40 Ainsi auront-ils crainte de vous tout le temps qu'ils vivront en la terre que vous avez donnée à nos pères.

to the end they may revere thee, all the days which they do live, upon the face of the soil, —which thou gavest unto our fathers?

41 Lorsque l'étranger qui n'est point de votre peuple,

Moreover also, unto the stranger, who is, not of thy people Israel, —but hath come in out of a far country, for the sake of thy Name, —

42 Entrera aussi et priera dans ce lieu,

(for they will certainly hear of thy great Name, and of thy strong hand, and of thy stretched-out arm, —and so will come in and pray towards this house),

43 Du haut du ciel, du lieu où est votre demeure, vous accomplirez tout ce que vous aura demandé l'étranger, afin que tous les peuples connaissent votre nom, qu'ils aient crainte de vous comme le peuple d'Israël, et qu'ils sachent que votre nom est invoqué dans ce temple que j'ai bâti.

wilt, thou thyself, hear in the heavens, the settled place of thine abode, and act, according to all for which, the stranger, shall cry unto thee, —to the end that all the peoples of the earth may truly know thy Name, so as to revere thee, like thy people Israel, and to know that, thine own Name, hath been given unto this house, which I have built?

44 Si votre peuple va en guerre contre ses ennemis dans une voie où vous lui ferez prendre la fuite, il invoquera le nom du Seigneur en se tournant vers la ville que vous vous êtes choisie, et vers le temple que j'ai bâti à votre nom,

When thy people go forth to war against their enemy, whithersoever thou mayest send them, —and shall pray unto Yahweh, in the direction of the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy Name,

45 Et, du haut du ciel, vous écouterez sa demande et sa prière, et vous rendrez sur lui votre jugement.

then wilt thou hear, in the heavens, their prayer and their supplication, —and maintain their cause?

46 Ils pècheront contre vous, car il n'est point d'homme qui ne pèche, et vous les emmènerez, vous les livrerez à leurs ennemis, et les captifs seront conduits en une terre voisine ou lointaine.

When they sin against thee—for there is, no son of earth, that sinneth not, and thou shalt be angry with them, and deliver them up before an enemy, —who shall carry them away as their captives, into the land of the enemy, far or near;

47 Et, dans la terre où on les aura conduits, ils convertiront leurs cœurs, ils se repentiront dans le lieu de leur exil, et ils vous prieront, disant: Nous avons péché, nous avons été déréglés et iniques.

and they come back to their right mind, in the land whither they have been taken captive, —and so turn and make supplication unto thee, in the land of their captors, saying, We have sinned and done perversely, we have been lawless;

48 Et ils reviendront à vous de tout leur cœur, de toute leur âme, en la demeure de leurs ennemis où vous les aurez transportés; et ils vous prieront, tournés vers la terre que vous avez donnée à leurs pères, vers la ville que vous vous êtes choisie, et vers ce temple que j'ai bâti au nom du Seigneur.

and so they turn unto thee with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their enemies, who have carried them away captive, —and pray unto thee in the direction of their own land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy Name,

49 Et du haut du ciel, du lieu où est votre demeure, vous les écouterez,

then wilt thou hearken in the heavens, the settled place of thine abode, unto their prayer, and unto their supplication, —and maintain their cause;

50 Vous leur remettrez leurs iniquités, leurs péchés contre vous, et toutes leurs prévarications; vous leur accorderez d'exciter la compassion des ennemis qui les retiendront en captivité, et ceux-ci leur feront miséricorde.

and grant forgiveness to thy people, who have sinned against thee, even as to all their transgressions wherein they have transgressed against thee, —and grant them compassion before their captors, so that they may have compassion upon them;

51 Car c'est votre peuple, c'est votre héritage, que vous avez tiré de la terre d'Égypte, du milieu d'une fournaise de fer.

because, thy people and thine inheritance, they are, —whom thou didst bring forth out of Egypt, out of the midst of the smelting-pot of iron;

52 Que vos yeux, que vos oreilles, restent ouverts à la prière que vous fait votre serviteur, à la prière que vous fait votre peuple Israël; écoutez-les en toutes les choses pour lesquelles ils vous invoqueront.

that thine eyes may be open unto the supplication of thy servant, and unto the supplication of thy people Israel, —to hearken unto them, in all their crying unto thee;

53 Car c'est vous qui les avez mis à part, entre tous les autres peuples, pour être votre héritage, comme vous l'aviez promis à Moïse, lorsque vous avez ramené nos pères de la terre d'Égypte, Seigneur, ô Seigneur.

because, thou thyself, didst separate them unto thee, for an inheritance, out of all the peoples of the earth, —as thou spakest by the hand of Moses thy servant, when thou broughtest forth our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord Yahweh.

54 Lorsque Salomon eut achevé toute cette prière, cette oraison au Seigneur, il se tint debout après s'être agenouillé devant l'autel du Seigneur; puis, les mains étendues vers le ciel,

And it came to pass, when Solomon had made an end of praying unto Yahweh all this prayer and supplication, that he arose from before the altar of Yahweh, from kneeling on his knees, with his hands outspread to the heavens;

55 Debout, il bénit à haute voix toute l'Église d'Israël, et il dit:

and stood and blessed all the convocation of Israel, —with a loud voice, saying:

56 Béni soit aujourd'hui le Seigneur qui a donné la paix à Israël son peuple, selon tout ce qu'il avait dit! Nulle de ses paroles ne s'est trouvée en défaut parmi toutes les bonnes paroles qu'il avait dites par la bouche de Moïse, son serviteur.

Blessed, be Yahweh, who hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised, —there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.

57 Puisse le Seigneur Dieu être avec nous comme il a été avec nos pères, puisse-t-il ne nous jamais abandonner, et ne nous point détourner

Yahweh our God be with us, as he was with our fathers, —let him not leave us, nor forsake us;

58 D'incliner vers lui nos cœurs, de marcher dans toutes ses voies et d'observer tous ses commandements, tous les préceptes qu'il a donnés à nos pères.

but bow our heart unto himself, —to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his regulations, which he commanded our fathers.

59 Puissent ces prières que je viens de faire ici devant le Seigneur notre Dieu être près de lui nuit et jour, qu'elles donnent la justice à votre serviteur, et à votre peuple Israël, à jamais.

And let these my words, wherewith I have made supplication before Yahweh, be near unto Yahweh our God, day and night, —that he may maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel, as any need ariseth:

60 Afin que tous les peuples de la terre sachent que le Seigneur Dieu est le seul Dieu, et qu'il n'y a point d'autre Dieu que lui.

To the end that all the peoples of the earth may know, that, Yahweh, is God, —there is none else.

61 Puissent nos cœurs être parfaits devant le Seigneur notre Dieu, marcher saintement dans ses préceptes, et observer ses commandements, comme aujourd'hui.

So shall your heart be sound with Yahweh our God, —to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.

62 Ensuite, le roi et tous les fils d'Israël immolèrent des victimes devant le Seigneur.

And, the king, and all Israel with him, were offering sacrifice before Yahweh.

63 Et le roi Salomon sacrifia des hosties pacifiques et les offrit au Seigneur: vingt-deux mille bœufs, cent vingt mille brebis; puis, le roi et tous les fils d'Israël firent la dédicace du temple du Seigneur.

So Solomon offered as a sacrifice of peace-offerings, which he offered unto Yahweh—Oxen, two and twenty thousand, and Sheep, a hundred and twenty thousand, —Thus did, the king and all the sons of Israel, dedicate the house of Yahweh.

64 Ce jour-là, le roi consacra le milieu du parvis devant la façade du temple; car c'est là qu'il fit les holocaustes et les sacrifices, et qu'il brûla la graisse des hosties pacifiques, parce que l'autel d'airain dressé devant le Seigneur était trop petit pour suffire aux holocaustes et aux hosties pacifiques.

On that day, did the king hallow the middle of the court, that was before the house of Yahweh, —for he offered there the ascending-sacrifice, and the meal-offering, and the fat portions of the peace-offerings, because, the altar of bronze that was before Yahweh, was too small to receive the ascending-sacrifice and the meal-offering, and the fat portions of the peace-offerings.

65 Et le roi Salomon, ce jour-là, commença la fête, et avec lui tout Isarël, une immense assemblée accourue depuis les gorges d'Emath jusqu'au fleuve d'Égypte, devant le Seigneur notre Dieu, au temple qu'on lui avait bâti; ils mangeaient, buvaient et se réjouissaient devant le Seigneur notre Dieu, pendant sept jours.

And Solomon made, at that time, a festival—and all Israel with him—a great convocation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the ravine of Egypt, before Yahweh our God, seven days, and seven days, —fourteen days.

66 Et le huitième jour, Salomon congédia le peuple, et ils bénirent le roi. Et chacun s'en retourna en sa demeure plein de joie, le cœur pénétré des biens que le Seigneur avait accordés à David son serviteur, ainsi qu'à Israël son peuple.

And on the eighth day, he sent the people away, and they blessed the king, —and departed to their homes, rejoicing and glad of heart, over all the goodness which Yahweh had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people.
