Psaumes 60
1 Au chef des chantres. D’Après Chouchân Edouth. Mikhtam de David, poème didactique, à l’occasion de sa guerre avec les Syriens de Çoba, lorsque Joab, à son retour, défit Edom dans la vallée du Sel, lui tuant douze mille hommes. O Dieu, tu nous as délaissés, tu as fait brèche parmi nous, tu t’es irrité: puisses-tu réparer nos pertes!
For the Chief Musician; set to Shushan Eduth: Michtam of David, to teach: when he strove with Aram-naharaim and with Aram-zobah, and Joab returned, and smote of Edom in the Valley of Salt twelve thousand. O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast broken us down; thou hast been angry; O restore us again.
2 Tu as fait trembler le pays, tu y as ouvert des crevasses; restaure ses ruines, car il vacille.
Thou hast made the land to tremble; thou hast rent it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.
3 Tu en as fait voir de dures à ton peuple, tu nous as forcés de boire un vin de vertige:
Thou hast shewed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of staggering.
4 puisses-tu donner à tes adorateurs une bannière, pour s’y rallier au nom de la vérité. (Sélah)
Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. (Selah)
5 Afin que tes bien-aimés échappent au danger, secours-nous avec ta droite, et exauce-moi!
That thy beloved may be delivered, save with thy right hand, and answer us.
6 L’Eternel l’a annoncé en son sanctuaire: "Je triompherai, je veux m’adjuger Sichem, mesurer au cordeau la vallée de Souccot.
God hath spoken in his holiness; I will exult: I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.
7 A moi Galaad! à moi Manassé! Ephraïm est la puissante sauvegarde de ma tête, Juda est mon sceptre.
Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the defence of mine head; Judah is my sceptre.
8 Moab est le bassin où je me lave; sur Edom," je jette ma sandale. Chante donc victoire contre moi, pays des Philistins!
Moab is my washpot; upon Edom will I cast my shoe: Philistia, shout thou because of me.
9 Qui me conduira à la ville forte? Qui saura me mener jusqu’à Edom?
Who will bring me into the strong city? who hath led me unto Edom?
10 Ne sera-ce pas toi, ô Dieu, toi qui nous avais délaissés, qui ne faisais plus campagne avec nos armées?
Hast not thou, O God, cast us off? and thou goest not forth, O God, with our hosts.
11 Prête-nous secours contre l’adversaire, puisque trompeuse est l’aide de l’homme.
Give us help against the adversary: for vain is the help of man.
12 Avec Dieu nous ferons des prouesses: c’est lui qui écrasera nos ennemis.
Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our adversaries.
