1 Cantique des degrés. De David. "Si l’Eternel n’avait été avec nous peut bien dire Israël

A Song of Ascents. By David. If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, let Israel now say,

2 si l’Eternel n’avait été avec nous, quand tout le monde se levait contre nous,

if it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us,

3 ils nous auraient avalés tout vivants dans le feu de leur colère contre nous;

then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us,

4 les eaux nous auraient submergés, un torrent aurait passé sur nous.

then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul.

5 Oui, notre âme aurait vu passer sur elle les eaux impétueuses."

Then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.

6 Béni soit le Seigneur qui ne nous a pas livrés en pâture à leurs dents!

Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as a prey to their teeth.

7 Notre âme a été sauvée comme un passereau du filet des oiseleurs: le filet s’est rompu, et nous sommes sains et saufs.

Our soul has escaped like a bird out of the fowler’s snare. The snare is broken, and we have escaped.

8 Notre salut est dans le nom de l’Eternel, qui a fait le ciel et la terre.

Our help is in the LORD’s name, who made heaven and earth.
