Isaïe 66

1 Ainsi parle l’Eternel: "Le ciel est mon trône et la terre mon marchepied: quelle est la maison que vous pourriez me bâtir, le lieu qui me servirait de résidence?

Thus saith the LORD; The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: what manner of house will ye build unto me? and what place shall be my rest?

2 Mais, tout cela, ma main l’a créé! Tout cela est né d’une parole de l’Eternel! Voici pourtant ce que j’aime à embrasser de mes regards: les humbles, ceux qui ont le cœur contrit, ceux qui sont timorés pour ma parole.

For all these things hath mine hand made, and so all these things came to be, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and that trembleth at my word.

3 Si l’on égorge des bœufs et tue en même temps des hommes, si l’on immole des agneaux et assomme des chiens, si l’on offre des oblations mais aussi du sang de pourceau, si on brûle de l’encens mais adresse aussi des hommages aux idoles, c’est qu’ils se délectent dans leur errements et prennent plaisir à leurs turpitudes.

He that killeth an ox is as he that slayeth a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as he that breaketh a dog’s neck; he that offereth an oblation, [as he that offereth] swine’s blood; he that burneth frankincense, as he that blesseth an idol: yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations;

4 Eh bien! Moi aussi, je prendrai plaisir à me jouer d’eux et leur susciterai les maux qu’ils redoutent, parce que mon appel est resté sans réponse et ma parole sans écho, parce qu’ils ont fait ce qui me déplaît et donné la préférence à ce que je réprouve."

I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did that which was evil in mine eyes, and chose that wherein I delighted not.

5 Ecoutez ce que dit l’Eternel, vous qui révérez sa parole: "Vos frères qui vous détestent, vous, repoussent pour faire honneur à mon nom, ils disaient: "Que Dieu manifeste donc sa gloire, pour que nous ayons le spectacle de votre joie!" Eh bien! Ceux-là seront confondus.

Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word: Your brethren that hate you, that cast you out for my name’s sake, have said, Let the LORD be glorified, that we may see your joy; but they shall be ashamed.

6 Une grande rumeur s’élève de la ville, une rumeur sort du temple; c’est la voix de l’Eternel qui paie leur salaire à ses ennemis.

A voice of tumult from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of the LORD that rendereth recompence to his enemies.

7 Avant d’être en travail, elle a enfanté; avant d’être assaillie par les douleurs, elle a donné le jour à des enfants mâles.

Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child.

8 Qui a ouï pareil fait? Qui a vu pareil prodige? Tout un monde procréé en un jour! Tout un peuple enfanté à la fois! C’Est ainsi que Sion a été en travail, ainsi qu’elle a donné le jour à ses fils!

Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall a land be born in one day? shall a nation be brought forth at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.

9 Quoi! J’Amènerais la crise de l’enfantement, et je ne ferais pas la délivrance! dit l’Eternel. Quoi! Moi qui donne la vie, a dit ton Dieu, je l’empêcherais d’éclore!

Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the LORD: shall I that cause to bring forth shut [the womb]? saith thy God.

10 Réjouissez-vous avec Jérusalem et soyez dans l’allégresse à cause d’elle, vous tous qui l’aimez! Prenez part à sa joie, vous tous qui êtes en deuil à son sujet!

Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn over her:

11 Ainsi vous boirez, à satiété, le lait consolant de ses mamelles; ainsi vos lèvres aspireront avec délice l’abondance de sa gloire.

that ye may suck and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.

12 Car voici ce que dit l’Eternel: "Je ferai affluer, dans ses murs, la paix comme un fleuve, et comme un torrent impétueux la richesse des nations, et vous vous en nourrirez, portés dans leurs bras, bercés sur leurs genoux.

For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream, and ye shall suck [thereof]; ye shall be borne upon the side, and shall be dandled upon the knees.

13 Comme un fils que sa mère console, ainsi vous consolerai-je; et c’est dans Jérusalem que vous trouverez votre consolation.

As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

14 Vous le verrez, et votre cœur sera joyeux, et vos membres, comme l’herbe nouvelle, en seront rajeunis; la main de Dieu se signalera à ses serviteurs, et il fera peser sa colère sur ses ennemis.

And ye shall see [it], and your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like the tender grass: and the hand of the LORD shall be known toward his servants, and he will have indignation against his enemies.

15 Oui! Voici que l’Eternel apparaît dans les flammes, avec ses chars pareils à la tempête, pour exercer sa colère par le feu et son indignation par un vaste embrasement.

For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and his chariots shall be like the whirlwind; to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.

16 Oui! L’Eternel, par le feu, par son glaive, fera justice de toute chair; et ils seront nombreux, ceux que frappera le Seigneur!

For by fire will the LORD plead, and by his sword, with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many.

17 Ceux-là qui se font saints, qui se font purs pour le culte des bosquets, se groupant autour d’une idole; ceux-là qui se repaissent de la chair du porc, des reptiles répugnants, de la souris, ensemble ils périront! L’Eternel l’a dit.

They that sanctify themselves and purify themselves [to go] unto the gardens, behind one in the midst, eating swine’s flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse; they shall come to an end together, saith the LORD.

18 Quant à moi, en raison de leurs actes et de leurs pensées, je juge que le temps est venu de rassembler tous les peuples et tous les idiomes, pour qu’ils arrivent et soient témoins de ma gloire.

For I [know] their works and their thoughts: [the time] cometh, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and shall see my glory.

19 Je leur donnerai le signal, et j’en déléguerai une partie, sains et saufs, vers les peuplades de Tarchich, de Poul, de Loud, habiles à manier l’arc, de Toubal et de Yavân; vers les îles lointaines, où n’a point retenti mon nom, où n’a pas éclaté ma gloire, et ils annonceront ma gloire parmi ces peuples.

And I will set a sign among them, and I will send such as escape of them unto the nations, to Tarshish, Pul and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the nations.

20 Et l’on amènera tous vos frères du milieu de chaque nation, comme tribut à l’Eternel, sur des chevaux, sur des chars, dans des litières, sur des mulets, sur des dromadaires, vers ma sainte montagne à Jérusalem, dit l’Eternel, comme les enfants d’Israël apportent leurs tributs, dans des vases purs, au temple du Seigneur.

And they shall bring all your brethren out of all the nations for an offering unto the LORD, upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring their offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD.

21 Bien plus, j’en élirai parmi eux comme pontifes, comme lévites, dit l’Eternel.

And of them also will I take for priests [and] for Levites, saith the LORD.

22 Oui! Comme ces cieux nouveaux et comme cette terre nouvelle que je ferai naître dureront devant moi, dit l’Eternel, ainsi subsisteront votre race et votre nom.

For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.

23 Et il arrivera constamment, à chaque néoménie, à chaque sabbat, que toute chair viendra se prosterner devant moi, dit l’Eternel.

And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

24 Et on sortira pour contempler les cadavres de ces hommes qui se révoltèrent contre moi, car le ver qui les ronge ne mourra point, ni le feu qui les consume ne s’éteindra; et ils seront ainsi un objet d’horreur pour toute créature.

And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.
