Isaïe 54

1 Réjouis-toi, femme stérile qui n’as point enfanté! Fais éclater ton allégresse et chante, toi qui n’as pas été en mal d’enfant! Car plus nombreux seront les enfants de la femme délaissée que de la femme mariée, a dit l’Eternel.

Rejoice, you barren that bear not; break forth and cry, you that do not travail: for more are the children of the desolate than of her that has a husband: for the Lord has said,

2 Elargis l’emplacement de ta tente, qu’on déploie les tentures de ta demeure, n’y épargne rien! Allonge tes cordes, fixe solidement tes chevilles!

Enlarge the place of your tent, and of your curtains: fix [the pins], spare not, lengthen your cords, and strengthen your pins;

3 Car de droite et de gauche tu déborderas, et tes enfants recueilleront l’héritage des nations, peupleront des villes devenues solitaires.

spread forth [your tent] yet to the right and the left: for your seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and you shall make the desolate cities to be inhabited.

4 Ne crains pas, car tu ne seras plus humiliée; ne sois pas confuse, car tu ne subiras plus d’outrage; car la honte de ta jeunesse, tu l’oublieras, le déshonneur de ton veuvage, tu ne t’en souviendras plus.

Fear not, because you has been put to shame, neither be confounded, because you was reproached: for you shall forget your former shame, and shall no more at all remember the reproach of your widowhood.

5 Oui, ton époux ce sera ton Créateur, qui a nom l’Eternel-Cebaot, ton sauveur sera le Saint d’Israël, qui s’appelle le Dieu de toute la terre.

For [it is] the Lord that made you; the Lord of hosts is his name: and he that delivered you, he is the God of Israel, [and] shall be called [so] by the whole earth.

6 Car comme une femme abandonnée et au cœur affligé, l’Eternel t’a rappelée; la compagne de la jeunesse peut-elle être un objet de dédain? Ainsi parle le Seigneur.

The Lord has not called you as a deserted and faint-hearted woman, nor as a woman hated from [her] youth, says your God.

7 Un court instant je t’ai délaissée, et avec une grande tendresse je veux te recueillir.

For a little while I left you: but with great mercy will I have compassion upon you.

8 Dans un transport de colère je t’ai, un instant, dérobé ma face; désormais je t’aimerai d’une affection sans bornes, dit ton libérateur, l’Eternel.

In a little wrath I turned away my face from you; but with everlasting mercy will I have compassion upon you, says the Lord that delivers you.

9 Certes, je ferai en cela comme pour les eaux de Noé: de même que j’ai juré que le déluge de Noé ne désolerait plus la terre, ainsi je jure de ne plus m’irriter ni diriger des menaces contre toi.

From the time of the water of Noe this is my [purpose]: as I sware to him at that time, [saying] of the earth, I will no more be angry with you, neither when you are threatened,

10 Que les montagnes chancellent, que les collines s’ébranlent, ma tendresse pour toi ne chancellera pas, ni mon alliance de paix ne sera ébranlée, dit Celui qui t’aime, l’Eternel!

shall the mountains depart, nor shall your hills be removed: so neither shall my mercy fail you, nor shall the covenant of your peace be at all removed: for the Lord [who is] gracious to you has spoken [it].

11 O infortunée, battue par la tempête, privée de consolation! Vois, je cimenterai tes pierres avec le stuc, et je te bâtirai sur le saphir.

Afflicted and outcast you has not been comforted: behold, I [will] prepare carbuncle [for] your stones, and sapphire for your foundations;

12 Je te construirai des créneaux en pur cristal, des portes en escarboucles, et toutes tes barrières seront en pierres précieuses.

and I will make your buttresses jasper, and your gates crystal, and your border precious stones.

13 Tous tes enfants seront les disciples de l’Eternel; grande sera la concorde de tes enfants.

And [I will cause] all your sons [to be] taught of God, and your children [to be] in great peace.

14 Tu seras affermie par la justice: bannis toute idée d’oppression, car tu n’auras rien à craindre; de terreur, car tu seras garantie contre elle.

And you shall be built in righteousness: abstain from injustice, and you shall not fear; and trembling shall not come near you.

15 Que si l’on se mettait contre toi, ce serait sans mon aveu; quiconque se mettra contre toi succombera sur ton sol.

Behold, strangers shall come to you by me, and shall sojourn with you, and shall run to you for refuge.

16 Certes, c’est moi qui ai créé le forgeron, lequel attise la braise ardente et façonne l’instrument pour l’usage auquel il est destiné; moi aussi j’ai créé le destructeur qui cause des dégâts.

Behold, I have created you, not as the coppersmith blowing coals, and bringing out a vessel [fit] for work; but I have created you, not for ruin, that [I] should destroy [you].

17 Tout instrument forgé contre toi sera impuissant, toute langue qui se dressera contre toi pour t’accuser sera convaincue d’injustice; tel est le partage des serviteurs de l’Eternel, et l’arrêt équitable qu’ils obtiennent de moi, dit l’Eternel.

I will not suffer any weapon formed against you to prosper; and every voice that shall rise up against you for judgment, you shall vanquish them all; and your adversaries shall be [condemned] thereby. There is an inheritance to them that serve the Lord, and you shall be righteous before me, says the Lord.
