Isaïe 2
1 Révélation que reçut Isaïe, fils d’Amoç, sur Juda et Jérusalem:
The word that Isaiah, the son of Amoz, saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2 Il arrivera, à la fin des temps, que la montagne de la maison du Seigneur sera affermie sur la cime des montagnes et se dressera au-dessus des collines, et toutes les nations y afflueront.
And in the last days, the mountain of the house of the Lord will be prepared at the summit of the mountains, and it will be exalted above the hills, and all the nations shall flow to it.
3 Et nombre de peuples iront en disant: "Or çà, gravissons la montagne de l’Eternel pour gagner la maison du Dieu de Jacob, afin qu’il nous enseigne ses voies et que nous puissions suivre ses sentiers, car c’est de Sion que sort la doctrine et de Jérusalem la parole du Seigneur."
And many peoples will go, and they will say: “Let us approach and ascend to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob. And he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths.” For the law will go forth from Zion, and the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 Il sera un arbitre entre les nations et le précepteur de peuples nombreux; ceux-ci alors de leurs glaives forgeront des socs de charrue et de leurs lances des serpettes; un peuple ne tirera plus l’épée contre un autre peuple, et on n’apprendra plus l’art des combats.
And he will judge the nations, and he will rebuke many peoples. And they shall forge their swords into plowshares, and their spears into sickles. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they continue to train for battle.
5 Maison de Jacob, allons, marchons à la lumière de l’Eternel.
O house of Jacob, let us approach and walk in the light of the Lord.
6 Certes, tu avais délaissé ton peuple, la maison de Jacob, car ils étaient envahis de superstitions venues de l’Orient, de pratiques de sorcellerie comme les Philistins, ils se complaisaient aux produits des étrangers.
For you have cast aside your people, the house of Jacob, because they have been filled up, as in past times, and because they have had soothsayers as the Philistines have, and because they have joined themselves to foreign servants.
7 Leur pays est gorgé d’argent et d’or, point de limites à leurs trésors; il abonde en chevaux, et ses chars ne se comptent point.
Their land has been filled with silver and gold. And there is no end to their storehouses.
8 Leur pays est rempli aussi d’idoles, ils se prosternent devant l’œuvre de leurs mains, devant les créations de leurs doigts.
And their land has been filled with horses. And their four-horse chariots are innumerable. And their land has been filled with idols. They have adored the work of their hands, which their own fingers have made.
9 Toute personne s’est abaissée, tout homme s’est dégradé: tu ne peux leur pardonner.
And man has bowed himself down, and so man has become debased. Therefore, you should not forgive them.
10 Qu’on se retire dans les rochers, qu’on cherche un abri dans la poussière, devant la terreur qu’inspire Dieu et l’éclat de sa majesté!
Enter into the rock, and hide in a ditch in the soil, from the presence of the fear of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty.
11 Les yeux hautains seront abaissés, l’orgueil humain sera humilié: Dieu seul sera grand en ce jour.
The lofty eyes of man have been humbled, and the haughtiness of men will be bowed down. Then the Lord alone shall be exalted, in that day.
12 Oui, l’Eternel-Cebaot fixera un jour contre l’orgueilleux et le superbe, contre quiconque s’élève: ils seront abaissés;
For the day of the Lord of hosts will prevail over all the proud and self-exalted, and over all the arrogant, and each one shall be humbled,
13 contre tous les cèdres élancés et majestueux du Liban et les chênes du Basan;
and over all the straight and tall cedars of Lebanon, and over all the oaks of Bashan;
14 contre toutes les hautes montagnes et les collines altières;
and over all the lofty mountains, and over all the elevated hills;
15 contre les tours élevées et les remparts puissants;
and over every lofty tower, and over every fortified wall;
16 et contre les navires de Tarsis et les édifices somptueux.
and over all the ships of Tarshish, and over all the beauty that may be seen.
17 L’Orgueil des hommes sera humilié, leur arrogance sera abattue; seul l’Eternel sera grand en ce jour.
And the loftiness of men will be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men will be brought low. And the Lord alone shall be exalted, in that day.
18 Quant aux idoles, elles s’évanouiront toutes.
And idols will be thoroughly crushed.
19 On se réfugiera alors dans les cavités des rochers et dans les grottes souterraines devant la terreur répandue par l’Eternel et l’éclat de sa majesté, quand il se lèvera pour épouvanter la terre.
And they will go into the caves of the rocks, and into the caverns of the earth, from the presence of the dread of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty, when he will have risen up to strike the earth.
20 En ce jour, ils jetteront aux taupes et aux chauves-souris leurs idoles d’argent et d’or, qu’ils avaient fabriquées pour leur rendre hommage,
In that day, man shall cast aside his idols of silver and his images of gold, which he had made for himself, as if to reverence the moles and the bats.
21 et ils iront dans le creux des rochers, dans les crevasses des côtes pierreuses, terrifiés par la crainte de l’Eternel et l’éclat de sa majesté, quand il se lèvera pour épouvanter la terre.
And so he will go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the caverns of stone, from the presence of the dread of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty, when he will have risen up to strike the earth.
22 Cessez de vous appuyer sur l’homme, dont la vie n’est qu’un souffle. Quelle peut être sa valeur?
Therefore, rest away from man, whose breath is in his nostrils, for he considers himself to be exalted.
