2 Samuel 9

1 David se dit: "Existe-t-il encore un survivant de la maison de Saül? Je voudrais le traiter avec bienveillance, en faveur de Jonathan."

And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?

2 Or, il existait un serviteur de la maison de Saül qui avait nom Ciba. On le manda auprès de David, et le roi lui dit: "Es-tu Ciba? C’Est moi, ton serviteur," répondit-il.

And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba, and they called him unto David; and the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he.

3 Le roi reprit: "N’Y a-t-il plus personne de la famille de Saül, à qui je puisse témoigner une bienveillance digne de Dieu?" Et Ciba répondit au roi: "Il existe encore un fils de Jonathan; il est boiteux.

And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.

4 Où est-il? demanda le roi." Ciba lui répondit: "Il est dans la maison de Makhir, fils d’Ammiel, de Lô-Debar."

And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo-debar.

5 Le roi David l’envoya chercher dans la demeure de Makhir, fils d’Ammiel, à Lô-Debar.

Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar.

6 En arrivant devant David, Mephiboseth, fils de Jonathan, fils de Saül, tomba sur sa face et se prosterna. "Mephiboseth?" dit David. Il répondit: "C’Est ton serviteur."

And Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came unto David, and fell on his face, and did obeisance. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant!

7 David lui dit: "Ne crains rien, je veux te traiter avec faveur, en considération de ton père Jonathan. Je te ferai rendre toutes les terres de Saül, ton aïeul, et tu mangeras tous les jours à ma table."

And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.

8 Il répondit en se prosternant: "Qu’est-ce que ton serviteur pour que tu jettes les yeux sur un chien mort, tel que moi?"

And he did obeisance, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?

9 Le roi manda Ciba, serviteur de Saül, et lui dit: "Tout ce qui appartenait à Saül et à tous les siens, je le donne au fils de ton maître.

Then the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said unto him, All that pertained to Saul and to all his house have I given unto thy master’s son.

10 Tu cultiveras pour lui la terre, toi, tes fils et tes esclaves, et tu lui en apporteras le produit, pour que le fils de ton maître ait du pain à manger; d’ailleurs, Mephiboseth pourra toujours manger à ma table." Or, Ciba avait quinze fils et vingt esclaves.

And thou shalt till the land for him, thou, and thy sons, and thy servants; and thou shalt bring in [the fruits], that thy master’s son may have bread to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master’s son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.

11 Ciba répondit au roi: "Tout ce que le roi, mon maître, ordonnera à son serviteur, il s’y conformera; Mephiboseth pourra manger à ma table comme tel des fils du roi."

Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king commandeth his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, [said the king], he shall eat at my table, as one of the kings sons.

12 Mephiboseth avait un fils en bas âge, nommé Mikha. Tout le personnel de la maison de Ciba était au service de Mephiboseth.

And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Mica. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth.

13 Lui-même demeurait à Jérusalem, parce qu’il mangeait constamment à la table du roi. Il boitait des deux jambes.

So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king’s table; and he was lame on both his feet.
