2 Rois 13

1 Dans la vingt-troisième année du règne de Joas, fils d’Achazia, roi de Juda, Joachaz, fils de Jéhu, devint roi d’Israël à Samarie; il régna dix-sept ans.

In the three and twentieth yeere of Ioash the sonne of Ahaziah King of Iudah, Iehoahaz the sonne of Iehu began to reigne ouer Israel in Samaria, and he reigned seuenteene yeere.

2 Il fit ce qui déplaît au Seigneur, imitant, sans jamais s’en écarter, la conduite coupable de Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, qui avait fait commettre des péchés à Israël.

And he did euil in the sight of the Lord, and followed the sinnes of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, which made Israel to sinne, and departed not therefrom.

3 L’Eternel s’irrita contre les Israélites, les livra au pouvoir de Hazaël, roi de Syrie, et de Ben-Hadad, fils de Hazaël, tant que ces rois vécurent.

And the Lord was angry with Israel, and deliuered them into the hand of Hazael King of Aram, and into the hand of Ben-hadad the sonne of Hazael, all his dayes.

4 Mais Joachaz implora le Seigneur, qui l’exauça, parce qu’il voyait l’oppression que le roi de Syrie faisait peser sur les Israélites.

And Iehoahaz besought the Lord, and the Lord heard him: for he saw the trouble of Israel, wherewith the King of Aram troubled them.

5 Il leur envoya donc un libérateur, qui les arracha à la tyrannie des Syriens, et les Israélites purent de nouveau demeurer dans leurs tentes, comme autrefois.

(And the Lord gaue Israel a deliuerer, so that they came out from vnder the subiection of the Aramites. And the children of Israel dwelt in their tents as before time.

6 Pourtant, ils ne renoncèrent pas aux habitudes impies de la famille de Jéroboam, qui avait fait commettre des péchés à Israël, mais y persistèrent; l’Achéra aussi resta à Samarie.

Neuerthelesse they departed not from the sinnes of the house of Ieroboam which made Israel sinne, but walked in them. euen the groue also remayned still in Samaria)

7 De toute l’armée de Joachaz, il n’était resté que cinquante cavaliers, dix chars et dix mille hommes de pied; le roi de Syrie avait fait périr les autres, en les traitant comme la poussière qu’on foule aux pieds.

For he had left of the people to Iehoahaz but fiftie horsemen, and tenne charets, and tenne thousand footemen, because the King of Aram had destroyed them, and made them like dust beaten to pouder.

8 Pour le surplus de l’histoire de Joachaz, ses travaux et ses exploits, ils sont mentionnés dans le livre des annales des rois d’Israël.

Concerning the rest of the actes of Iehoahaz and all that he did, and his valiant deedes, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

9 Joachaz, s’étant endormi avec ses pères, fut inhumé à Samarie; il eut pour successeur son fils Joas.

And Iehoahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria, and Ioash his sonne reigned in his steade.

10 C’Est dans la trente-septième année du règne de Joas, roi de Juda, que Joas, fils de Joachaz, devint roi d’Israël à Samarie; il régna seize ans.

In the seuen and thirtieth yere of Ioash King of Iudah began Iehoash the sonne of Iehoahaz to reigne ouer Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteene yeere,

11 Il fit ce qui déplaît au Seigneur, ne cessant d’imiter les actes coupables de Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, qui avait fait commettre des péchés aux Israélites.

And did euil in the sight of the Lord: for he departed not from all the sinnes of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat that made Israel to sinne, but he walked therein.

12 Pour le surplus de l’histoire de Joas, ses travaux et ses exploits, lorsqu’il fit la guerre à Amacia, roi ide Juda, ils sont consignés dans le livre des annales des rois d’Israël.

Concerning the rest of the actes of Ioash and all that he did, and his valiant deedes, and how he fought against Amaziah King of Iudah, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

13 Quand Joas se fut endormi avec ses pères, Jéroboam le remplaça sur le trône; Joas fut enseveli à Samarie avec les rois d’Israël.

And Ioash slept with his fathers, and Ieroboam sate vpon his seate: and Ioash was buryed in Samaria among the Kings of Israel.

14 Pendant qu’Elisée souffrait de la maladie dont il mourut, Joas, roi d’Israël, lui rendit visite, se jeta sur lui en pleurant, et dit: "Mon père, mon père! Char et cavalerie d’Israël!"

When Elisha fell sicke of his sickenesse whereof he dyed, Ioash the King of Israel came downe vnto him, and wept vpon his face, and sayd, O my father, my father, the charet of Israel, and the horsemen of the same.

15 Elisée lui dit: "Prends un arc et des flèches!" Il prit un arc et des flèches.

Then Elisha sayde vnto him, Take a bowe and arrowes. And he tooke vnto him bowe and arrowes.

16 Puis il dit encore au roi d’Israël: "Place ta main sur l’arc"; il le fit. Elisée posa ensuite ses mains sur celles du roi.

And he sayde to the King of Israel, Put thine hand vpon the bowe. And he put his hand vpon it. And Elisha put his hands vpon the Kings hands,

17 "Ouvre la fenêtre du côté de l’Orient," dit Elisée; Il l’ouvrit. "Tire!" et il tira. Le prophète continua: "C’Est une flèche libératrice de la part de l’Eternel, une flèche libératrice contre la Syrie; tu battras les Syriens à Afek, et tu les extermineras.

And saide, Open the windowe Eastward. And when he had opened it, Elisha said, Shoote. And he shot. And he sayd, Beholde the arrowe of the Lordes deliuerance and the arrowe of deliuerance against Aram: for thou shalt smite the Aramites in Aphek, till thou hast consumed them.

18 Prends maintenant les flèches," ajouta-t-il il les prit. Ensuite le prophète dit: "Frappe contre terre!" Le roi d’Israël frappa contre terre trois fois, puis s’arrêta.

Againe he said, Take the arrowes. And he tooke them. And he sayde vnto the King of Israel, Smite the ground. And he smote thrise, and ceased.

19 L’Homme de Dieu se mit en colère et dit: "Tu aurais dû frapper cinq ou six fois! Alors tu aurais battu les Syriens jusqu’à leur complète extermination. Maintenant, tu ne les battras que trois fois…"

Then the man of God was angry with him, and sayde, Thou shouldest haue smitten fiue or sixe times, so thou shouldest haue smitten Aram, till thou haddest consumed it, where nowe thou shalt smite Aram but thrise.

20 Elisée mourut, et on l’enterra. L’Année suivante, des bandes de Moabites faisaient des incursions dans le pays.

So Elisha dyed, and they buryed him. And certaine bandes of the Moabites came into the land that yeere.

21 Des gens aperçurent une de ces bandes un jour qu’ils enterraient quelqu’un; ils jetèrent le corps dans le sépulcre d’Elisée. Au contact des ossements d’Elisée, le défunt ressuscita et se remit debout.

And as they were burying a man, behold, they saw the souldiers: therfore they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha. And when the man was downe, and touched the bones of Elisha, he reuiued and stoode vpon his feete.

22 Hazaël, roi de Syrie, opprima les Israélites tant que vécut Joachaz.

But Hazael King of Aram vexed Israel all the dayes of Iehoahaz.

23 L’Eternel redevint bienveillant à leur égard et, les prenant en pitié, se tourna vers eux à cause de son alliance avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob; car il ne voulut pas les détruire, et jusqu’à présent il ne les a jamais repoussés loin de lui.

Therefore the Lord had mercy on them and pitied them, and had respect vnto them because of his couenant with Abraham, Izhak, and Iaakob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from him as yet.

24 Hazaël, roi de Syrie, mourut, et il eut pour successeur son fils Ben-Hadad.

So Hazael the King of Aram dyed: and Ben-hadad his sonne reigned in his stead.

25 Alors Joas, fils de Joachaz, reprit à Ben-Hadad, fils de Hazaël, les villes enlevées, à la suite de guerres, à son père Joachaz. Joas le battit trois fois et reconquit les villes d’Israël.

Therefore Iehoash the sonne of Iehoahaz returned, and tooke out of the hand of Ben-hadad the sonne of Hazael the cities which he had taken away by warre out of the hand of Iehoahaz his father: for three times did Ioash beate him, and restored the cities vnto Israel.
