1 Samuel 9
1 Il y avait alors un homme de la tribu de Benjamin, nommé Kich, fils d’Abïel, fils de Ceror, fils de Bekhorat, fils d’Afïah, fils d’un Benjamite; c’était un vaillant homme.
And [there was] a man of the sons of Benjamin, and his name [was] Kis, the son of Abiel, the son of Jared, the son of Bachir, the son of Aphec, the son of a Benjamite, a man of might.
2 Il avait un fils nommé Saül, jeune et beau, que nul enfant d’Israël ne surpassait en beauté, et qui dépassait de l’épaule tout le reste du peuple.
And this man [had] a son, and his name was Saul, of great stature, a goodly man; and there was not among the sons of Israel a goodlier than he, high above all the people from his shoulders and upward.
3 Un jour, les ânesses de Kich, père de Saül, s’étant égarées, Kich dit à son fils: "Fais-toi accompagner, je te prie, d’un des serviteurs, et mets-toi en route à la recherche des ânesses."
And the asses of Kis the father of Saul were lost; and Kis said to Saul his son, Take with you one of the young men, and arise you, and go seek the asses.
4 Saül parcourut la montagne d’Ephraïm, puis le pays de Chalicha, mais ils ne trouvèrent pas; puis ils parcoururent le pays de Chaalim sans succès, puis la contrée des Benjamites, sans trouver davantage.
And they went through mount Ephraim, and they went through the land of Selcha, and found them not: and they passed through the land of Segalim, and they were not there: and they passed through the land of Jamin, and found them not.
5 Arrivé au pays de Çouf, Saül dit au serviteur qui l’accompagnait: "Çà, rebroussons chemin; mon père pourrait bien ne plus songer aux ânesses et s’inquiéter de nous."
And when they came to Siph, then Saul said to his young man that was with him, Come and let us return, lest my father leave the asses, and take care for us.
6 "Ecoute, répondit l’autre, il y a un homme de Dieu dans cette ville, c’est un personnage considérable, tout ce qu’il annonce se réalise. Allons-y donc, peut-être nous renseignera-t-il sur le chemin que nous aurions dû suivre."
And the young man said to him, Behold now, [there is] a man of God in this city, and the man [is] of high repute; all that he shall speak will surely come to pass: now then let us go, that he may tell us our way on which we have set out.
7 "Mais si nous y allons, dit Saül à son serviteur, que pouvons-nous apporter à cet homme? Il n’y a plus de pain dans nos bagages, plus de présent que nous puissions offrir à l’homme de Dieu; que nous reste-t-il?"
And Saul said to his young man that was with him, Behold, then, we will go; but what shall we bring the man of God? for the loaves are spent out of our vessels, and we have nothing more with us that belongs to us to bring to the man of God.
8 Le serviteur, répondant de nouveau à Saül, dit: "J’Ai encore par devers moi un quart de sicle d’argent; je veux le donner à l’homme de Dieu pour qu’il nous indique notre chemin."
And the young man answered Saul again, and said, Behold, there is found in my hand a fourth part of a shekel of silver; and you shall give it to the man of God, and he shall tell us our way.
9 (Autrefois, en Israël, celui qui se proposait d’aller consulter Dieu, disait: "Venez, allons trouver le Voyant"; car le prophète de nos jours s’appelait alors le voyant.)
Now before time in Israel every one in going to enquire of God said, Come and let us go to the seer; for the people beforetime called the prophet, the seer.
10 Saül dit à son serviteur: "Tu as bien parlé; viens donc, allons!" Et ils se dirigèrent vers la ville où était l’homme de Dieu.
And Saul said to his servant, Well said, come and let us go: and they went to the city where the man of God was.
11 Comme ils gravissaient la montée de la ville, ils rencontrèrent des jeunes filles qui en sortaient pour puiser de l’eau, et ils leurs demandèrent: "Le Voyant est-il ici?"
As they went up the ascent to the city, they find damsels come out to draw water, and they say to them, Is the seer here?
12 "Oui, répondirent-elles, il y est! Là-bas devant toi! Mais dépêche-toi, car il est arrivé aujourd’hui dans la ville, le peuple devant faire aujourd’hui un sacrifice sur le haut-lieu.
And the virgins answered them, and they say to them, He is: behold, [he is] before you: now he is coming to the city, because of the day, for today [there is] a sacrifice for the people in Bama.
13 Aussitôt entrés dans la ville, vous le trouverez, avant qu’il monte sur le haut-lieu pour le repas; car le peuple ne se met pas à table avant qu’il soit venu, car c’est lui qui bénit le festin du sacrifice, et alors seulement les conviés mangent. Allez donc là-haut, car vous le trouverez présentement lui-même."
As soon as you shall enter into the city, so shall you find him in the city, before he goes up to Bama to eat; for the people will not eat until he comes in, for he blesses the sacrifice, and afterwards the guests eat; now then go up, for you shall find him because of the holiday.
14 Ils montèrent donc à la ville; ils venaient d’y pénétrer, lorsqu’ils rencontrèrent Samuel, qui sortait pour monter sur le haut-lieu.
And they go up to the city; and as they were entering into the midst of the city, behold, Samuel came out to meet them, to go up to Bama.
15 Or l’Eternel, un jour avant l’arrivée de Saül, s’était révélé confidentiellement à Samuel en ces termes:
And the Lord uncovered the ear of Samuel one day before Saul came to him, saying,
16 "Demain, à pareille heure, je ferai venir à toi un homme du pays de Benjamin, et tu l’oindras comme chef de mon peuple Israël; et il délivrera mon peuple de la puissance des Philistins; car j’ai jeté un regard sur mon peuple, et sa plainte est venue jusqu’à moi."
At this time to-morrow I will send to you a man out of the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be ruler over my people Israel, and he shall save my people out of the hand of the Philistines; for I have looked upon the humiliation of my people, for their cry is come to me.
17 Et lorsque Samuel aperçut Saül, Dieu lui déclara: "Voici l’homme dont je t’ai parlé; c’est lui qui régnera sur mon peuple."
And Samuel looked upon Saul, and the Lord answered him, Behold the man of whom I spoke to you, this one shall rule over my people.
18 Saül, abordant Samuel à la porte de la ville, lui dit: "Enseigne-moi, je te prie, où est la maison du voyant"
And Saul drew near to Samuel into the midst of the city, and said, Tell me now which [is] the house of the seer?
19 Samuel répondit à Saül: "Le voyant, c’est moi; va m’attendre sur le haut-lieu, et vous mangerez avec moi aujourd’hui; demain matin je te laisserai partir, après t’avoir appris ce que tu désires savoir.
And Samuel answered Saul, and said, I am he: go up before me to Bama, and eat with me today, and I will send you away in the morning, and I will tell you all that is in your heart.
20 Quant aux ânesses que tu as perdues il y a trois jours, ne t’en mets point en peine, elles sont retrouvées. Et à qui est réservé tout ce qu’il y a de précieux en Israël, si ce n’est à toi et à toute ta famille?"
And concerning your asses that have been lost now these three days, care not for them, for they are found. And to whom does the excellency of Israel belong? does it not to you and to your father's house?
21 "Eh quoi! répondit Saül, ne suis-je pas de Benjamin, l’une des moindres tribus d’Israël, et ma famille n’est-elle pas la plus infime entre toutes celles de la tribu de Benjamin? Pourquoi donc me parles-tu de la sorte?"
And Saul answered and said, Am not I the son of a Benjamite, the least tribe of the people of Israel? and of the least family of the whole tribe of Benjamin? and why have you spoken to me according to this word?
22 Samuel prit Saül et son serviteur, les introduisit dans la salle du festin, et leur donna la première place parmi les conviés, qui étaient au nombre de trente environ.
And Samuel took Saul and his servant, and brought them to the inn, and set them there a place among the chief of those that were called, about seventy men.
23 Et Samuel dit au cuisinier: "Donne la portion que je t’avais remise, que je t’avais dit de garder par devers toi."
And Samuel said to the cook, Give me the portion which I gave you, which I told you to set by you.
24 Le cuisinier prit l’épaule avec sa garniture et les servit à Saül, et Samuel lui dit: "Ceci est la part réservée, mets-la devant toi et mange; car elle t’a été gardée pour cette solennité, lorsque j’ai annoncé que j’invite le peuple." Saül mangea donc ce jour-là avec Samuel.
Now the cook [had] boiled the shoulder, and he set it before Saul; and Samuel said to Saul, Behold that which is left: set before you, an eat; for it is set you for a testimony in preference to the others; take [of it]: and Saul ate with Samuel on that day.
25 Ils rentrèrent du haut-lieu dans la ville, et Samuel s’entretint avec Saül sur la plate-forme.
And he went down from Bama into the city; and they prepared a lodging for Saul on the roof, and he lay down.
26 Ils se levèrent de bonne heure, et, dès que parut le jour, Samuel appela Saül sur la plate-forme et lui dit: "Apprête-toi, que je te reconduise." Saül obéit, et ils sortirent tous deux ensemble.
An it came to pass when the morning dawned, that Samuel called Saul on the roof, saying, Rise up, and I will dismiss you. And Saul arose, and he and Samuel went out.
27 Comme ils atteignaient, en descendant, l’extrémité de la ville, Samuel dit à Saül: "Dis au serviteur de nous dépasser (ce qu’il fit) et toi, reste maintenant ici, je veux te faire connaître la parole du Seigneur."
As they went down to a part of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Speak to the young man, and let him pass on before us; and do you stand as today, and listen to the word of God.
