1 David, avec les chefs de l’armée, assigna une place à part, dans le service du culte, aux fils d’Assaph, de Hêman et de Yedouthoun, qui pratiquaient l’art de la harpe, du luth et des cymbales. Suit le dénombrement de ces artistes exécutants, d’après la nature de leur emploi:

Moreover David and the captains of the host separated for the service certain of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of them that did the work according to their service was:

2 Pour les fils d’Assaph, c’étaient Zaccour, Joseph, Netania et Acharèla; ces fils d’Assaph étaient dirigés par Assaph lui-même, qui officiait sous le contrôle du roi.

of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asharelah, the sons of Asaph; under the hand of Asaph, who prophesied after the order of the king.

3 Pour Yedouthoun: les fils de Yedouthoun, Ghedaliahou, Ceri, Isaïe, Hachabiahou, Mattitiahou et Chimeï, au nombre de six, sous la direction de leur père Yedouthoun, qui était chargé de louer et de célébrer l’Eternel au son de la harpe.

Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six; under the hands of their father Jeduthun with the harp, who prophesied in giving thanks and praising the LORD.

4 Pour Hêman: les fils de Hêman, Boukkiyahou, Mattaniahou, Ouzziël, Chebouël, Yerimot, Hanania, Hanani, Elîata, Ghiddalti, Romamti-Ezer, Yochbekacha, Malloti, Hotir, Mahaziot.

Of Heman: the sons of Heman; Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamtiezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth:

5 Tous ceux-ci étaient fils de Hêman, voyant du roi, chargé, dans le service divin, de sonner de la corne. Dieu avait donné à Hêman quatorze fils et trois filles.

All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

6 Tous avaient mission de participer, sous la direction de leur père, aux cantiques du temple de l’Eternel, en accompagnant de cymbales, de luths et de harpes le service de la maison de Dieu, suivant les instructions du roi à Assaph, Yedouthoun et Hêman.

All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God; Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman being under the order of the king.

7 Ils s’élevaient au nombre de deux cent quatre-vingt-huit, en comptant avec eux leurs frères exercés aux cantiques du Seigneur, tous ceux qui étaient passés maîtres.

And the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in singing unto the LORD, even all that were skilful, was two hundred fourscore and eight.

8 On répartit par le sort leurs sections, en y comprenant également petits et grands, maîtres et apprentis.

And they cast lots for their charges, all alike, as well the small as the great, the teacher as the scholar.

9 Le sort désigna en premier la famille d’Assaph en la personne de Joseph. Ghedaliahou fut le second: lui, ses frères et ses fils étaient ensemble douze.

Now the first lot came forth for Asaph to Joseph: the second to Gedaliah; he and his brethren and sons were twelve:

10 Le troisième fut Zaccour; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

the third to Zaccur, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

11 Le quatrième fut Yiçri, avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

the fourth to Izri, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

12 Le cinquième fut Netaniahou; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

the fifth to Nethaniah, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

13 Le sixième fut Boukkiyahou; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

the sixth to Bukkiah, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

14 Le septième fut Yessarèla; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

the seventh to Jesharelah, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

15 Le huitième fut Isaïe; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

the eighth to Jeshaiah, his sons mad his brethren, twelve:

16 Le neuvième fut Mattaniahou; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

the ninth to Mattaniah, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

17 Le dixième fut Chimeï; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

the tenth to Shimei, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

18 Le onzième fut Azarêl; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

the eleventh to Azarel, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

19 Le douzième fut Hachabia; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

the twelfth to Hashabiah, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

20 Le treizième fut Choubaël; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

for the thirteenth, Shubael, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

21 Le quatorzième fut Mattitiahou; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

for the fourteenth, Mattithiah, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

22 Le quinzième fut Yerêmot; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

for the fifteenth to Jeremoth, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

23 Le seizième fut Hananiahou; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

for the sixteenth to Hananiah, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

24 Le dix-septième fut Yochbekacha; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

for the seventeenth to Joshbekashah, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

25 Le dix-huitième fut Hanani; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

for the eighteenth to Hanani, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

26 Le dix-neuvième fut Malloti; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

for the nineteenth to Mallothi, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

27 Le vingtième fut Eliyata; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

for the twentieth to Eliathah, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

28 Le vingt-unième fut Hotir; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

for the one and twentieth to Hothir, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

29 Le vingt-deuxième fut Ghiddalti; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

for the two and twentieth to Giddalti, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

30 Le vingt-troisième fut Mahaziot; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

for the three and twentieth to Mahazioth, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

31 Le vingt-quatrième fut Romamti-Ezer; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.
