Job 19

1 Et Job répondit et dit:

Then Job answered and said,

2 Jusques à quand affligerez-vous mon âme, et m’accablerez-vous de paroles?

How long will ye vex my soul, and destroy me with words? only know that the Lord has dealt with me thus.

3 Voilà dix fois que vous m’avez outragé, vous n’avez pas honte de m’étourdir.

Ye speak against me; ye do not feel for me, but bear hard upon me.

4 Mais si vraiment j’ai erré, mon erreur demeure avec moi.

Yea verily, I have erred in truth, (but the error abides with myself) in having spoken words which it was not right [to speak]; and my words err, and are unreasonable.

5 Si réellement vous voulez vous élever contre moi et faire valoir mon opprobre contre moi,

But alas! for ye magnify yourselves against me, and insult me with reproach.

6 Sachez donc que c’est Dieu qui me renverse et qui m’entoure de son filet.

Know then that it is the Lord that has troubled [me], and has raised his bulwark against me.

7 Voici, je crie à la violence, et je ne suis pas exaucé; je pousse des cris, et il n’y a pas de jugement.

Behold, I laugh at reproach; I will not speak: [or] I will cry out, but [there is] nowhere judgment.

8 Il a fermé mon chemin et je ne puis passer, et il a mis des ténèbres sur mes sentiers;

I am fenced round about, and can by no means escape: he has set darkness before my face.

9 Il m’a dépouillé de ma gloire et a ôté la couronne de dessus ma tête;

And he has stripped me of my glory, and has taken the crown from my head.

10 Il m’a détruit de tous côtés, et je m’en vais; il a arraché mon espérance comme un arbre.

He has torn me around about, and I am gone: and he has cut off my hope like a tree.

11 Il a allumé contre moi sa colère, et il m’a tenu pour l’un de ses ennemis.

And he has dreadfully handled me in anger, and has counted me for an enemy.

12 Ses troupes sont venues ensemble, et elles ont dressé en chaussée leur chemin contre moi et se sont campées autour de ma tente.

His troops also came upon me with one accord, liars in wait compassed my ways.

13 Il a éloigné de moi mes frères, et ceux de ma connaissance me sont devenus entièrement étrangers;

My brethren have stood aloof from me; they have recognized strangers [rather] than me: and my friends have become pitiless.

14 Mes proches m’ont délaissé, et ceux que je connaissais m’ont oublié.

My nearest of kin have not acknowledged me, and they that knew my name, have forgotten me.

15 Ceux qui séjournent dans ma maison et mes servantes me tiennent pour un étranger; je suis à leurs yeux comme un homme du dehors.

[As for] my household, and my maid-servants, I was a stranger before them.

16 J’ai appelé mon serviteur, et il n’a pas répondu; de ma bouche je l’ai supplié.

I called my servant, and he hearkened not; and my mouth intreated [him].

17 Mon haleine est étrangère à ma femme, et ma supplication, aux fils du sein de ma mère.

And I besought my wife, and earnestly intreated the sons of my concubines.

18 Même les petits enfants me méprisent; je me lève, et ils parlent contre moi.

But they rejected me for ever; whenever I rise up, they speak against me.

19 Tous les hommes de mon intimité m’ont en horreur, et ceux que j’aimais se sont tournés contre moi.

They that saw me abhorred me: the very persons whom I had loved, rose up against me.

20 Mes os s’attachent à ma peau et à ma chair, et j’ai échappé avec la peau de mes dents!

My flesh is corrupt under my skin, and my bones are held in [my] teeth.

21 Ayez pitié de moi, ayez pitié de moi, vous mes amis! car la main de Dieu m’a atteint.

Pity me, pity me, O friends; for it is the hand of the Lord that has touched me.

22 Pourquoi, comme Dieu, me poursuivez-vous et n’êtes-vous pas rassasiés de ma chair?

Wherefore do ye persecute me as also the Lord [does], and are not satisfied with my flesh?

23 Oh! si seulement mes paroles étaient écrites! si seulement elles étaient inscrites dans un livre,

For oh that my words were written, and that they were recorded in a book forever,

24 Avec un style de fer et du plomb, et gravées dans le roc pour toujours!

with an iron pen and lead, or graven in the rocks!

25 Et moi, je sais que mon rédempteur est vivant, et que, le dernier, il sera debout sur la terre;

For I know that he is eternal who is about to deliver me,

26 Et après ma peau, ceci sera détruit, et de ma chair je verrai Dieu,

[and] to raise up upon the earth my skin that endures these [sufferings]: for these things have been accomplished to me of the Lord;

27 Que je verrai, moi, pour moi-même; et mes yeux [le] verront, et non un autre: – mes reins se consument dans mon sein.

which I am conscious of in myself, which mine eye has seen, and not another, but all have been fulfilled to me in [my] bosom.

28 Si vous dites: Comment le poursuivrons-nous? et que la racine de la chose se trouve en moi,

But if ye shall also say, What shall we say before him, and [so] find the root of the matter in him?

29 Tremblez pour vous-mêmes devant l’épée! car l’épée est l’instrument de la fureur contre les iniquités; afin que vous sachiez qu’il y a un jugement!

Do ye also beware of deceit: for wrath will come upon transgressors; and then shall they know where their substance is.
