2 Chroniques 34
1 Josias était âgé de huit ans lorsqu’il commença de régner; et il régna 31 ans à Jérusalem.
Josias was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.
2 Et il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l’Éternel, et marcha dans les voies de David, son père, et ne s’en écarta ni à droite ni à gauche.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of his father David, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.
3 Et la huitième année de son règne, lorsqu’il était encore un jeune garçon, il commença de rechercher le Dieu de David, son père; et la douzième année, il commença de purifier Juda et Jérusalem des hauts lieux, et des ashères, et des images taillées, et des images de fonte.
And in the eighth year of his reign, and he [being] yet a youth, he began to seek the Lord God of his father David: and in the twelfth year of his reign he began to purge Juda and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the ornaments for the altars, and the molten images.
4 Et on démolit devant lui les autels des Baals, et il abattit les colonnes consacrées au soleil, qui étaient en haut au-dessus d’eux; et il brisa les ashères, et les images taillées et les images de fonte, et les broya, et en répandit la poussière sur les sépulcres de ceux qui leur avaient sacrifié;
And he pulled down the altars of Baalim that were before his face, and the high places that were above them; and he cut down the groves, and the graven images, and broke in pieces the molten images, and reduced them to powder, and cast [it] upon the surface of the tombs of those who [had] sacrificed to them.
5 et il brûla les os des sacrificateurs sur leurs autels. Et il purifia Juda et Jérusalem.
And he burnt the bones of the priests upon the altars, and purged Juda and Jerusalem.
6 Et dans les villes de Manassé, et d’Éphraïm, et de Siméon, et jusqu’à Nephthali, dans leurs ruines, tout à l’entour,
And [he did so] in the cities of Manasse, and Ephraim, and Symeon, and Nephthali, and the places round about them.
7 il démolit les autels, et mit en pièces, jusqu’à les réduire en poussière, les ashères et les images taillées, et abattit toutes les colonnes consacrées au soleil, dans tout le pays d’Israël; et il s’en retourna à Jérusalem.
And he pulled down the altars and the groves, and he cut the idols in small pieces, and cut off all the high places from all the land of Israel, and returned to Jerusalem.
8 Et la dix-huitième année de son règne, lors de la purification du pays et de la maison, il envoya Shaphan, fils d’Atsalia, et Maascéïa, le chef de la ville, et Joakh, fils de Joakhaz, le rédacteur des chroniques, pour réparer la maison de l’Éternel, son Dieu.
And in the eighteenth year of his reign, after having cleansed the land, and the house, he sent Saphan the son of Ezelias, and Maasa prefect of the city, and Juach son of Joachaz his recorder, to repair the house of the Lord his God.
9 Et ils vinrent chez Hilkija, le grand sacrificateur; et on [leur] remit l’argent qui avait été apporté dans la maison de Dieu [et] que les lévites, gardiens du seuil, avaient recueilli de la main de Manassé et d’Éphraïm, et de tout le reste d’Israël, et de tout Juda et Benjamin, et des habitants de Jérusalem.
And they came to Chelcias the high priest, and gave the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites who kept the gate collected of the hand of Manasse and Ephraim, and of the princes, and of every one that was left in Israel, and of the children of Juda and Benjamin, and of the dwellers in Jerusalem.
10 Et ils le remirent en la main de ceux qui faisaient l’ouvrage, qui étaient préposés [sur le travail] dans la maison de l’Éternel; et ceux-ci le remirent aux ouvriers qui travaillaient dans la maison de l’Éternel pour refaire et réparer la maison:
And they gave it into the hand of the workmen, who were appointed in the house of the Lord, and they gave it to the workmen who wrought in the house of the Lord, to repair and strengthen the house.
11 ils le remirent aux charpentiers et aux constructeurs pour acheter des pierres de taille, et des bois pour les assemblages, et pour faire la charpenterie des maisons que les rois de Juda avaient détruites.
They gave [it] also to the carpenters and builders, to buy squared stones, and timber for beams to cover the houses which the kings of Juda had destroyed.
12 Et ces hommes faisaient le travail avec fidélité. Et sur eux étaient préposés Jakhath et Abdias, lévites d’entre les fils de Merari, et Zacharie et Meshullam d’entre les fils des Kehathites, pour la surveillance; et tous ces lévites étaient habiles à [jouer] des instruments de musique.
And the men [were] faithfully [engaged] in the works: and over them were superintendents, Jeth and Abdias, Levites of the sons of Merari, and Zacharias and Mosollam, of the sons of Caath, [appointed] to oversee; and every Levite, and every one that understood [how] to play on musical instruments.
13 Et [ils étaient préposés] sur les portefaix, et ils surveillaient tous ceux qui étaient occupés à toute sorte de service. Et les scribes, et les intendants, et les portiers étaient d’entre les lévites.
And [overseers were] over the burden-bearers, and over all the workmen in the respective works; and of the Levites [were appointed] scribes, and judges, and porters.
14 Et comme on sortait l’argent qui avait été apporté dans la maison de l’Éternel, Hilkija, le sacrificateur, trouva le livre de la loi de l’Éternel [donnée] par Moïse.
And when they brought forth the money that had been brought into the house of the Lord, Chelcias the priest found a book of the law of the Lord [given] by the hand of Moses.
15 Et Hilkija prit la parole et dit à Shaphan, le scribe: J’ai trouvé le livre de la loi dans la maison de l’Éternel. Et Hilkija donna le livre à Shaphan.
And Chelcias answered and said to Saphan the scribe, I have found a book of the law in the house of the Lord. And Chelcias gave the book to Saphan.
16 Et Shaphan apporta le livre au roi; et de plus il rendit compte au roi, disant: Tout ce qui a été remis en la main de tes serviteurs, ils l’exécutent;
And Saphan brought in the book to the king, and moreover gave an account to the king, [saying, This is] all the money given into the hand of thy servants that work.
17 et ils ont versé l’argent qui s’est trouvé dans la maison de l’Éternel, et l’ont remis entre les mains des préposés et entre les mains de ceux qui font l’ouvrage.
And they have collected the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and given it into the hand of the overseers, and into the hand of them that do the work.
18 Et Shaphan, le scribe, raconta au roi, disant: Hilkija, le sacrificateur, m’a donné un livre. Et Shaphan y lut devant le roi.
And Saphan the scribe brought word to the king, saying, Chelcias the priest has given me a book. And Saphan read it before the king.
19 Et il arriva, quand le roi entendit les paroles de la loi, qu’il déchira ses vêtements.
And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the law, that he rent his garments.
20 Et le roi commanda à Hilkija, et à Akhikam, fils de Shaphan, et à Abdon, fils de Michée, et à Shaphan, le scribe, et à Asçaïa, serviteur du roi, disant:
And the king commanded Chelcias, and Achicam the son of Saphan, and Abdom the son of Michaias, and Saphan the scribe, and Asia the servant of the king, saying,
21 Allez, consultez l’Éternel pour moi et pour ce qui est de reste en Israël et en Juda, touchant les paroles du livre qui a été trouvé; car grande est la fureur de l’Éternel, qui s’est déversée sur nous, parce que nos pères n’ont pas gardé la parole de l’Éternel, pour faire selon tout ce qui est écrit dans ce livre.
Go, enquire of the Lord for me, and for every one that is left in Israel and Juda, concerning the words of the book that is found: for great is the wrath of the Lord [which] has been kindled amongst us, because our fathers have not hearkened to the words of the Lord, to do according to all the things written in this book.
22 Et Hilkija et les gens du roi allèrent vers Hulda, la prophétesse, femme de Shallum, fils de Thokehath, fils de Hasra, qui avait la garde des vêtements; et elle habitait à Jérusalem dans le second quartier de la ville; et ils lui parlèrent selon ces choses.
And Chelcias went, and [the others] whom the king told, to Olda the prophetess, the wife of Sellem son of Thecoe, son of Aras, who kept the commandments; and she dwelt in Jerusalem in the second [quarter]: and they spoke to her accordingly.
23 Et elle leur dit: Ainsi dit l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël: Dites à l’homme qui vous a envoyés vers moi:
And she said to them, Thus has the Lord God of Israel said, Tell the man who sent you to me,
24 Ainsi dit l’Éternel: Voici, je fais venir du mal sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants, toutes les malédictions qui sont écrites dans le livre qu’on a lu devant le roi de Juda.
Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I bring evil upon this place, [even] all the words that are written in the book that was read before the king of Juda:
25 Parce qu’ils m’ont abandonné et qu’ils ont brûlé de l’encens à d’autres dieux, pour me provoquer à colère par toutes les œuvres de leurs mains, ma fureur se déversera sur ce lieu, et elle ne s’éteindra point.
because they have forsaken me, and burnt incense to strange gods, that they might provoke me by all the works of their hands; and my wrath is kindled against this place, and it shall not be quenched.
26 Et au roi de Juda qui vous a envoyés pour consulter l’Éternel, vous direz ainsi: Ainsi dit l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, quant aux paroles que tu as entendues:
And concerning the king of Juda, who sent you to seek the Lord, —thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, [As for] the words which thou has heard,
27 Parce que ton cœur a été sensible, et que tu t’es humilié devant Dieu quand tu as entendu ses paroles contre ce lieu et contre ses habitants, et parce que tu t’es humilié devant moi, et que tu as déchiré tes vêtements, et que tu as pleuré devant moi, moi aussi j’ai entendu, dit l’Éternel.
forasmuch as thy heart was ashamed, and thou was humbled before me when thou heardest my words against this place, and against the inhabitants of it, and thou wast humbled before me, and didst rend thy garments, and didst weep before me; I also have heard, saith the Lord.
28 Voici, je vais te recueillir auprès de tes pères, et tu seras recueilli en paix dans tes sépulcres, et tes yeux ne verront pas tout le mal que je fais venir sur ce lieu, et sur ses habitants. Et ils rapportèrent au roi [cette] parole.
Behold, I [will] gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, and thine eyes shall not look upon all the evils which I am bringing upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of it. And they brought back word to the king.
29 Et le roi envoya, et assembla tous les anciens de Juda et de Jérusalem.
And the king sent and gathered the elders of Juda and Jerusalem.
30 Et le roi monta à la maison de l’Éternel, et tous les hommes de Juda, et les habitants de Jérusalem, et les sacrificateurs, et les lévites, et tout le peuple, depuis le grand jusqu’au petit; et on lut, eux l’entendant, toutes les paroles du livre de l’alliance qui avait été trouvé dans la maison de l’Éternel.
And the king went up to the house of the Lord, [he] and all Juda, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that were found in the house of the Lord.
31 Et le roi se tint debout à sa place, et fit cette alliance devant l’Éternel, de marcher après l’Éternel et de garder ses commandements et ses témoignages et ses statuts, de tout son cœur et de toute son âme, pour pratiquer les paroles de l’alliance, écrites dans ce livre.
And the king stood at a pillar, and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk before the Lord, to keep his commandments and testimonies, and his ordinances, with all [his] heart and with all [his] soul, so as to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.
32 Et il fit entrer [dans l’alliance] tous ceux qui se trouvaient à Jérusalem et en Benjamin; et les habitants de Jérusalem firent selon l’alliance de Dieu, du Dieu de leurs pères.
And he caused all that were found in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand; and the inhabitants of Jerusalem made a covenant in the house of the Lord God of their fathers.
33 Et Josias ôta toutes les abominations de tous les pays qui appartenaient aux fils d’Israël, et obligea tous ceux qui se trouvaient en Israël à servir l’Éternel, leur Dieu. Pendant tous ses jours, ils ne se détournèrent pas de l’Éternel, le Dieu de leurs pères.
And Josias removed all the abominations out of the whole land which belonged to the children of Israel, and caused all that were found in Jerusalem and in Israel, to serve the Lord their God all his days: he departed not from following the Lord God of his fathers.
