1 Samuel 26

1 Et les Ziphiens vinrent vers Saül, à Guibha, disant: David ne se tient-il pas caché à la colline de Hakila qui est en face de Jeshimon?

And the Ziphites come out of the dry country to Saul to the hill, saying, Behold, David hides himself with us in the hill Echela, opposite Jessemon.

2 Et Saül se leva et descendit au désert de Ziph, et avec lui 3 000 hommes d’élite d’Israël, pour chercher David dans le désert de Ziph.

And Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, and with him [went] three thousand men chosen out of Israel, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

3 Et Saül campa sur la colline de Hakila, qui est en face de Jeshimon, sur le chemin. Or David habitait dans le désert; et il vit que Saül était venu après lui au désert.

And Saul encamped in the hill of Echela in front of Jessemon, by the way, and David dwelt in the wilderness: and David saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

4 Et David envoya des espions, et il sut très certainement que Saül était venu.

And David sent spies, and ascertained that Saul was come prepared out of Keila.

5 Et David se leva, et vint au lieu où Saül était campé; et David vit le lieu où étaient couchés Saül et Abner, fils de Ner, chef de son armée: et Saül était couché dans l’enceinte des chars, et le peuple était campé tout autour de lui.

And David arose secretly, and goes into the place where Saul was sleeping, and there [was] Abenner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul was sleeping in a chariot, and the people had encamped along round about him.

6 Et David prit la parole, et dit à Akhimélec, le Héthien, et à Abishaï, fils de Tseruïa, frère de Joab, disant: Qui descendra avec moi vers Saül, au camp? Et Abishaï dit: Moi, je descendrai avec toi.

And David answered and spoke to Abimelech the Chettite, and to Abessa the son Saruia the brother of Joab, saying, Who will go in with me to Saul into the camp? And Abessa said, I will go in with thee.

7 Et David et Abishaï vinrent de nuit vers le peuple; et voici, Saül dormait, couché dans l’enceinte des chars, sa lance fichée en terre à son chevet; et Abner et le peuple étaient couchés autour de lui.

So David and Abessa go in among the people by night: and behold, Saul was fast asleep in the chariot, and his spear was stuck in the ground near his head, and Abenner and his people slept round about him.

8 Et Abishaï dit à David: Dieu a livré aujourd’hui ton ennemi en ta main; et maintenant, je te prie, que je le frappe de la lance jusqu’en terre, une seule fois, et je ne le referai pas.

And Abessa said to David, The Lord has this day shut up thine enemy into thine hands, and now I will smite him to the earth with the spear to the ground once [for all], and I will not smite him again.

9 Et David dit à Abishaï: Ne le détruis pas! car qui étendra sa main sur l’oint de l’Éternel et sera innocent?

And David said to Abessa, Do not lay him low, for who shall lift up his hand against the anointed of the Lord, and be guiltless?

10 Et David dit: L’Éternel est vivant, si ce n’est l’Éternel qui le frappera, soit que son jour vienne et qu’il meure, soit qu’il descende à la bataille et soit emporté!

And David said, [As] the Lord lives, if the Lord smite him not, or his day come and he die, or he go down to battle and be added [to his fathers, do not so].

11 Loin de moi, de par l’Éternel, que j’étende ma main sur l’oint de l’Éternel! Mais prends maintenant, je te prie, la lance qui est à son chevet et la cruche à eau, et allons-nous-en.

The Lord forbid it me that I should lift up my hand against the anointed of the Lord: and now take, I pray thee, the spear from his bolster, and the pitcher of water, and let us return home.

12 Et David prit, du chevet de Saül, la lance et la cruche à eau, et ils s’en allèrent; et personne ne [les] vit, et personne ne [le] sut, et personne ne s’éveilla; car ils dormaient tous, car un profond sommeil [envoyé] par l’Éternel était tombé sur eux.

So David took the spear, and the pitcher of water from his bolster, and they went home: and there was no one that saw, and no one that knew, and there was no one that awoke, all being asleep, for a stupor from the Lord had fallen upon them.

13 Et David passa de l’autre côté, et se tint sur le sommet de la montagne, de loin: il y avait un grand espace entre eux.

So David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of a hill afar off, and [there was] a good distance between them.

14 Et David cria au peuple et à Abner, fils de Ner, disant: Ne répondras-tu pas, Abner? Et Abner répondit et dit: Qui es-tu, toi qui cries au roi?

And David called to the people, and spoke to Abenner, saying, Wilt thou not answer, Abenner? and Abenner answered and said, Who art thou that callest?

15 Et David dit à Abner: N’es-tu pas un homme? et qui est comme toi en Israël? Et pourquoi n’as-tu pas gardé le roi, ton seigneur? car quelqu’un du peuple est venu pour tuer le roi, ton seigneur.

And David said to Abenner, [Art] not thou a man? and who [is] like thee in Israel? Why then dost thou not guard thy lord the king? for one out of the people went in to destroy thy lord the king.

16 Ce que tu as fait là n’est pas bien. L’Éternel est vivant, que vous êtes dignes de mort, vous qui n’avez pas gardé votre seigneur, l’oint de l’Éternel! Et maintenant, regarde où est la lance du roi, et la cruche à eau qui était à son chevet.

And this thing [is] not good which thou hast done. [As] the Lord lives, ye are worthy of death, ye who guard your lord the king, the anointed of the Lord: and now behold, I pray you, the spear of the king, and the cruse of water: where are the articles that should be at his head?

17 Et Saül reconnut la voix de David et dit: Est-ce là ta voix, mon fils David? Et David dit: C’est ma voix, ô roi, mon seigneur!

And Saul recognized the voice of David, and said, [Is] this thy voice, son David? and David said, I [am] thy servant, [my] lord, O king.

18 Et il dit: Pourquoi mon seigneur poursuit-il son serviteur? car qu’ai-je fait, et quel mal y a-t-il dans ma main?

And he said, Why does my lord thus pursue after his servant? for in what have I sinned? and what unrighteousness has been found in me?

19 Et maintenant, que le roi, mon seigneur, écoute, je te prie, les paroles de son serviteur. Si c’est l’Éternel qui t’a incité contre moi, qu’il accepte une offrande! mais si ce sont les fils des hommes, qu’ils soient maudits devant l’Éternel, parce qu’ils m’ont chassé aujourd’hui pour que je ne sois pas associé à l’héritage de l’Éternel, disant: Va, sers d’autres dieux!

And now let my lord the king hear the word of his servant. If God stirs thee up against me, let thine offering be acceptable: but if the sons of men, they [are] cursed before the Lord, for they have cast me out this day so that I should not be established in the inheritance of the Lord, saying, Go, serve other Gods.

20 Et maintenant, que mon sang ne tombe point en terre loin de la face de l’Éternel, car le roi d’Israël est sorti pour chercher une puce, comme on poursuivrait une perdrix dans les montagnes.

And now let not my blood fall to the ground before the Lord, for the king of Israel has come forth to seek thy life, as the night hawk pursues [its prey] in the mountains.

21 Et Saül dit: J’ai péché; reviens, mon fils David; car je ne te ferai plus de mal, puisque aujourd’hui mon âme a été précieuse à tes yeux. Voici, j’ai agi follement et j’ai commis une très grande erreur.

And Saul said, I have sinned: turn, son David, for I will not hurt thee, because my life was precious in thine eyes; and to-day I have been foolish and have erred exceedingly.

22 Et David répondit et dit: Voici la lance du roi; qu’un des jeunes hommes passe ici, et la prenne.

And David answered and said, Behold, the spear of the king: let one of the servants come over and take it.

23 Et l’Éternel rendra à chacun sa justice et sa fidélité, puisque l’Éternel t’avait livré aujourd’hui en [ma] main, et que je n’ai pas voulu étendre ma main sur l’oint de l’Éternel.

And the Lord shall recompense each according to his righteousness and his truth, since the Lord delivered thee this day into my hands, and I would not lift my hand against the Lord's anointed.

24 Et voici, comme ton âme a été aujourd’hui précieuse à mes yeux, que de même aussi mon âme soit précieuse aux yeux de l’Éternel, et qu’il me délivre de toute détresse!

And, behold, as thy life has been precious this very day in my eyes, so let my life be precious before the Lord, and may he protect me, and deliver me out of all affliction.

25 Et Saül dit à David: Béni sois-tu, mon fils David! certainement tu feras de grandes choses et tu en viendras à bout. Et David alla son chemin, et Saül retourna en son lieu.

And Saul said to David, Blessed [be] thou, [my] son; and thou shalt surely do valiantly, and surely prevail. And David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
