Proverbes 4
1 Ecoutez, mes fils, l'instruction d'un père, et soyez attentifs, pour apprendre l'intelligence;
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
2 car je vous donne une bonne doctrine: n'abandonnez pas mon enseignement.
For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
3 Moi aussi j'ai été un fils pour mon père, un fils tendre et unique auprès de ma mère.
For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
4 Il m'instruisait et il me disait: « Que ton cœur retienne mes paroles, observe mes préceptes, et tu vivras.
He taught me also, and said to me, Let thy heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
5 Acquiers la sagesse, acquiers l'intelligence; n'oublie pas les paroles de ma bouche, et ne t'en détourne pas.
Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6 Ne l'abandonne pas, et elle te gardera; aime-la, et elle te conservera.
Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
7 Voici le commencement de la sagesse: acquiers la sagesse; au prix de tout ce que tu possèdes, acquiers l'intelligence.
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
8 Tiens-la en haute estime, et elle t'exaltera; elle fera ta gloire, si tu l'embrasses.
Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
9 Elle mettra sur ta tête une couronne de grâce, elle t'ornera d'un magnifique diadème. »
She shall give to thy head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.
10 Ecoute, mon fils, et reçois mes paroles, et les années de ta vie se multiplieront.
Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
11 Je t'enseigne la voie de la sagesse, je te conduis dans les sentiers de la droiture.
I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.
12 Si tu marches, tes pas ne seront point à l'étroit, et si tu cours, tu ne trébucheras pas.
When thou goest, thy steps shall not be hindered; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
13 Retiens l'instruction, ne l'abandonne pas; garde-la, car elle est ta vie.
Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
14 N'entre pas dans le sentier des méchants, et ne marche pas dans la voie des hommes mauvais.
Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
15 Evite-la, n'y passe point, détourne-t'en et passe.
Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
16 Car ils ne dorment pas, s'ils ne font le mal; leur sommeil s'enfuit s'ils ne font tomber personne.
For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
17 Car ils mangent le pain du crime, ils boivent le vin de la violence.
For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
18 Le sentier des justes est comme la brillante lumière du matin, dont l'éclat va croissant jusqu'à ce que paraisse le jour.
But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more to the perfect day.
19 La voie des méchants est comme les ténèbres; ils n'aperçoivent pas ce qui les fera tomber.
The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
20 Mon fils, sois attentif à mes paroles, prête l'oreille à mes discours.
My son, attend to my words; incline thy ear to my sayings.
21 Qu'ils ne s'éloignent pas de tes yeux, garde-les au milieu de ton cœur.
Let them not depart from thy eyes; keep them in the midst of thy heart.
22 Car ils sont vie pour ceux qui les trouvent, santé pour tout leur corps.
For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
23 Garde ton cœur avant toute chose, car de lui jaillissent les sources de la vie.
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
24 Ecarte de ta bouche les paroles tortueuses, et éloigne de tes lèvres la fausseté.
Put away from thee a perverse mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
25 Que tes yeux regardent en face, et que tes paupières se dirigent devant toi.
Let thy eyes look right on, and let thy eyelids look straight before thee.
26 Fais à tes pieds un chemin uni, et que toutes tes voies soient droites.
Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
27 N'incline ni à droite ni à gauche, et détourne ton pied du mal.
Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
