1 Yahweh parla à Moïse, en disant:
Adonai spoke to Moses [Drawn out], saying,
2 « Venge les enfants d'Israël sur les Madianites; tu seras ensuite recueilli auprès de ton peuple. »
“Avenge the children of Israel [God prevails] for the Midianites [Descendants of Strife]. Afterward you shall be gathered to your people.”
3 Moïse parla au peuple, en disant: « Armez pour la guerre des hommes d'entre vous, et qu'ils marchent contre Madian, pour exécuter la vengeance de Yahweh sur Madian.
Moses [Drawn out] spoke to the people, saying, “Arm men from among you for the war, that they may go against Midian [Strife], to execute Adonai’s vengeance on Midian [Strife].
4 Vous enverrez à la guerre mille hommes par tribu, de toutes les tribus d'Israël. »
Of every tribe one thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel [God prevails], you shall send to the war.”
5 On leva donc d'entre les milliers d'Israël mille hommes par tribu, soit douze mille hommes armés pour la guerre.
So there were delivered, out of the thousands of Israel [God prevails], a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.
6 Moïse les envoya au combat, mille hommes par tribu, eux et Phinées, le fils d'Eléazar, le prêtre, qui avait avec lui les instruments sacrés et les trompettes retentissantes.
Moses [Drawn out] sent them, one thousand of every tribe, to the war, them and Pinchas [Bronze skin] the son of Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, to the war, with the utensils of the sanctuary and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand.
7 Ils s'avancèrent contre Madian, selon l'ordre que Yahweh avait donné à Moïse, et ils tuèrent tous les mâles.
They fought against Midian [Strife], as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out]. They killed every male.
8 Outre ceux qui étaient tombés dans la bataille, ils tuèrent les rois de Madian: Evi, Récem, Sur, Hur et Rebé, cinq rois de Madian; ils tuèrent aussi par l'épée Balaam, fils de Béor.
They killed the kings of Midian [Strife] with the rest of their slain: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian [Strife]. They also killed Balaam [Not people, Destroyer of people] the son of Beor with the sword.
9 Les enfants d'Israël firent prisonnières les femmes des Madianites avec leurs petits enfants, et ils pillèrent toutes leurs bêtes de somme, tous leurs troupeaux et tous leurs biens.
The children of Israel [God prevails] took the women of Midian [Strife] captive with their little ones; and all their livestock, all their flocks, and all their goods, they took as plunder.
10 Ils livrèrent aux flammes toutes les villes du pays qu'ils habitaient et tous leurs campements.
All their cities in the places in which they lived, and all their encampments, they burned with fire.
11 Ayant pris tout le butin et toutes les dépouilles, gens et bestiaux,
They took all the captives, and all the plunder, both of man and of animal.
12 ils amenèrent les prisonniers, les dépouilles et le butin à Moïse, à Eléazar, le prêtre, et à l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël, au camp, dans les plaines de Moab, près du Jourdain, vis-à-vis de Jéricho.
They brought the captives, and the prey, and the plunder, to Moses [Drawn out], and to Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, and to the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails], to the camp at the plains of Moab [From father], which are by the Jordan [Descender] at Jericho [Fragrant, Moon].
13 Moïse, Eléazar, le prêtre, et tous les princes de l'assemblée sortirent au-devant d'eux, hors du camp.
Moses [Drawn out], and Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went out to meet them outside of the camp.
14 Et Moïse s'irrita contre les commandants de l'armée, les chefs de milliers et les chefs de centaines, qui revenaient du combat.
Moses [Drawn out] was angry with the officers of the army, the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds, who came from the service of the war.
15 Il leur dit: « Avez-vous donc laissé la vie à toutes les femmes?
Moses [Drawn out] said to them, “Have you saved all the women alive?
16 Voici, ce sont elles qui, sur la parole de Balaam, ont entraîné les enfants d'Israël à l'infidélité envers Yahweh, dans l'affaire de Phogor; et alors la plaie fut dans l'assemblée de Yahweh.
Behold, these caused the children of Israel [God prevails], through the counsel of Balaam [Not people, Destroyer of people], to commit trespass against Adonai in the matter of Peor, and so the plague was among the congregation of Adonai.
17 Maintenant, tuez tout mâle parmi les petits enfants, et tuez toute femme qui a connu la couche d'un homme;
Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him.
18 mais toutes les filles qui n'ont pas connu la couche d'un homme, laissez-les vivre pour vous.
But all the girls, who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
19 Et vous, campez hors du camp pendant sept jours; quiconque a tué quelqu'un et quiconque a touché un mort se purifiera le troisième jour et le septième jour, lui et vos prisonniers.
“Encamp outside of the camp seven days. Whoever has killed any person, and whoever has touched any slain, purify yourselves on the third day and on the seventh day, you and your captives.
20 Vous purifierez aussi tout vêtement, tout objet de peau, tout ouvrage de poil de chèvre et tout ustensile de bois. »
As to every garment, and all that is made of skin, and all work of goats’ hair, and all things made of wood, you shall purify yourselves.”
21 Eléazar, le prêtre, dit aux hommes de guerre qui étaient allés au combat: « Voici ce qui est commandé par la loi que Yahweh a prescrite à Moïse:
Eleazar [Help of God] the priest said to the men of war who went to the battle, “This is the statute of the Torah ·Teaching· which Adonai has enjoined Moses [Drawn out]:
22 l'or, l'argent, l'airain, le fer, l'étain et le plomb,
however the gold, and the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
23 tout objet qui va au feu, vous le ferez passer par le feu, et il sera pur; toutefois il sera purifié encore par l'eau de purification. Tout ce qui ne va pas au feu, vous le ferez passer par l'eau.
everything that may withstand the fire, you shall make to go through the fire, and it shall be clean; nevertheless it shall be purified with the water for impurity. All that does not withstand the fire you shall make to go through the water.
24 Vous laverez vos vêtements, le septième jour, et vous serez purs; vous pourrez ensuite entrer dans le camp. »
You shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you shall be clean. Afterward you shall come into the camp.”
25 Yahweh parla à Moïse, en disant:
Adonai spoke to Moses [Drawn out], saying,
26 « Fais, toi et Eléazar, le prêtre, et les chefs de maisons de l'assemblée, le compte de ce qui a été pris des dépouilles en hommes et en bestiaux,
“Count the plunder that was taken, both of man and of animal, you, and Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, and the heads of the fathers’ households of the congregation;
27 et partage les dépouilles entre les combattants qui sont allés à la guerre et toute l'assemblée.
and divide the plunder into two parts: between the men skilled in war, who went out to battle, and all the congregation.
28 Tu prélèveras sur la part des soldats qui sont allés à la guerre un tribut pour Yahweh, savoir un sur cinq cents, gens, bœufs, ânes et brebis.
Levy a tribute to Adonai of the men of war who went out to battle: one soul of five hundred; of the persons, of the cattle, of the donkeys, and of the flocks.
29 Vous le prendrez sur leur moitié et tu le donneras à Eléazar, le prêtre, comme prélèvement de Yahweh.
Take it from their half, and give it to Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, for Adonai’s wave offering.
30 Sur la moitié qui revient aux enfants d'Israël, tu mettras à part un sur cinquante, gens, bœufs, ânes, brebis et tout bétail, et tu le donneras aux Lévites, qui ont la garde de la Demeure de Yahweh. »
Of the children of Israel [God prevails]’s half, you shall take one drawn out of every fifty, of the persons, of the cattle, of the donkeys, and of the flocks, of all the livestock, and give them to the Levites [Descendants of United with], who perform the duty of Adonai’s tabernacle.”
31 Moïse et Eléazar, le prêtre, firent comme Yahweh l'avait ordonné à Moïse.
Moses [Drawn out] and Eleazar [Help of God] the priest did as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out].
32 Les dépouilles, le reste du butin qu'avaient fait les combattants étaient de six cent soixante-quinze mille brebis,
Now the plunder, over and above the booty which the men of war took, was six hundred seventy-five thousand sheep,
33 soixante-douze mille bœufs,
and seventy-two thousand head of cattle,
34 soixante et un mille ânes,
and sixty-one thousand donkeys,
35 et trente-deux mille d'entre les femmes qui n'avaient pas connu la couche d'un homme.
and thirty-two thousand persons in all, of the women who had not known man by lying with him.
36 La moitié, part de ceux qui étaient allés à la guerre, fut de trois cent trente-sept mille cinq cents brebis,
The half, which was the portion of those who went out to war, was in number three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep:
37 six cent soixante-quinze brebis pour le tribut de Yahweh;
and Adonai’s tribute of the sheep was six hundred seventy-five.
38 trente-six mille bœufs, dont soixante-douze pour le tribut de Yahweh;
The cattle were thirty-six thousand; of which Adonai’s tribute was seventy-two.
39 trente mille cinq cents ânes, dont soixante-et-un pour le tribut de Yahweh;
The donkeys were thirty thousand five hundred; of which Adonai’s tribute was sixty-one.
40 et seize mille personnes, trente-deux personnes pour le tribut de Yahweh.
The persons were sixteen thousand; of whom Adonai’s tribute was thirty-two persons.
41 Moïse donna à Eléazar, le prêtre, le tribut prélevé pour Yahweh, ainsi que Yahweh l'avait ordonné à Moïse.
Moses [Drawn out] gave the tribute, which was Adonai’s wave offering, to Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out].
42 Quant à la moitié revenant aux enfants d'Israël, que Moïse avait séparée de celle des combattants,
Of the children of Israel [God prevails]’s half, which Moses [Drawn out] divided off from the men who fought
43 cette moitié formant la part de l'assemblée fut de trois cent trente-sept mille cinq cents brebis,
(now the congregation’s half was three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,
44 trente-six mille bœufs,
and thirty-six thousand head of cattle,
45 trente mille cinq cents ânes
and thirty thousand five hundred donkeys,
46 et seize mille personnes.
and sixteen thousand persons),
47 Sur cette moitié qui revenait aux enfants d'Israël, Moïse prit un sur cinquante et le donna aux Lévites, qui ont la garde de la Demeure de Yahweh, ainsi que Yahweh l'avait ordonné à Moïse.
even of the children of Israel [God prevails]’s half, Moses [Drawn out] took one drawn out of every fifty, both of man and of animal, and gave them to the Levites [Descendants of United with], who performed the duty of Adonai’s tabernacle; as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out].
48 Les commandants des milliers de l'armée, les chefs de milliers et les chefs de centaines, s'approchèrent de Moïse
The officers who were over the thousands of the army, the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, came near to Moses [Drawn out].
49 et lui dirent: « Tes serviteurs ont compté les combattants qui étaient sous nos ordres, et il ne manque pas un homme d'entre nous.
They said to Moses [Drawn out], “Your servants have taken the sum of the men of war who are under our charge, and there lacks not one man of us.
50 C'est pourquoi nous apportons comme offrande à Yahweh les objets d'or que chacun de nous a trouvés, bracelets, chaînettes, anneaux, pendants d'oreilles et colliers, pour faire l'expiation pour nous devant Yahweh. »
We have brought Adonai’s offering, what every man has gotten, of jewels of gold, armlets, and bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and necklaces, to make atonement for our souls before Adonai.”
51 Moïse et Eléazar, le prêtre, reçurent d'eux cet or, tous ces objets bien travaillés.
Moses [Drawn out] and Eleazar [Help of God] the priest took their gold, even all worked jewels.
52 Tout l'or prélevé qu'ils présentèrent à Yahweh de la part des chefs de milliers et des chefs de centaines, fut de seize mille sept cent cinquante sicles.
All the gold of the wave offering that they offered up to Adonai, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred fifty shekels [418.75 lb; 189.95 kg].
53 Les hommes de la troupe eurent chacun leur butin pour eux.
The men of war had taken booty, every man for himself.
54 Moïse et Eléazar, le prêtre, ayant pris l'or des chefs de milliers et des chefs de centaines, l'apportèrent dans la tente de réunion, comme mémorial pour les enfants d'Israël devant Yahweh.
Moses [Drawn out] and Eleazar [Help of God] the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the Tent of Meeting, for a memorial for the children of Israel [God prevails] before Adonai.
