Josué 22
1 Alors Josué appela les Rubénites, les Gadites et la demi-tribu de Manassé,
Then Joshua calleth for the Reubenite, and for the Gadite, and for the half of the tribe of Manasseh,
2 et il leur dit: « Vous avez observé tout ce que vous a prescrit Moïse, serviteur de Yahweh, et vous avez obéi à ma voix en tout ce que je vous ai commandé.
and saith unto them, 'Ye — ye have kept the whole of that which Moses, servant of Jehovah, commanded you, and ye hearken to my voice, to all that I have commanded you;
3 Vous n'avez pas abandonné vos frères durant ce long espace de temps, jusqu'à ce jour, et vous avez fidèlement observé le commandement de Yahweh, votre Dieu.
ye have not left your brethren these many days unto this day, and have kept the charge — the command of Jehovah your God.
4 Maintenant que Yahweh, votre Dieu, a donné du repos à vos frères, comme il le leur avait dit, retournez et allez-vous en vers vos tentes, dans le pays qui vous appartient, et que Moïse, serviteur de Yahweh, vous a donné de l'autre côté du Jourdain.
'And, now, Jehovah your God hath given rest to your brethren, as He spake to them; and now, turn ye, and go for yourselves to your tents, unto the land of your possession, which Moses, servant of Jehovah, hath given to you beyond the Jordan.
5 Seulement ayez grand soin de mettre en pratique les ordonnances et les lois que Moïse, serviteur de Yahweh, vous a prescrites, aimant Yahweh, votre Dieu, marchant dans toutes ses voies, gardant ses commandements, vous attachant à lui et le servant de tout votre cœur et toute votre âme. »
Only, be very watchful to do the command and the law which Moses, servant of Jehovah, commanded you, to love Jehovah your God, and to walk in all His ways, and to keep His commands, and to cleave to Him, and to serve Him, with all your heart, and with all your soul.'
6 Et Josué les bénit et les congédia; et il s'en allèrent vers leurs tentes.
And Joshua blesseth them, and sendeth them away, and they go unto their tents.
7 Moïse avait donné à une moitié de la tribu de Manassé un territoire en Basan, et Josué donna à l'autre moitié un territoire parmi ses frères en deçà du Jourdain, à l'occident. En les renvoyant vers leurs tentes, Josué les bénit,
And to the half of the tribe of Manasseh hath Moses given, in Bashan, and to its [other] half hath Joshua given with their brethren beyond the Jordan westward; and also when Joshua hath sent them away unto their tents, then he doth bless them,
8 et il leur dit: « Vous retournerez à vos tentes avec de grandes richesses, des troupeaux très nombreux et beaucoup d'argent, d'or, d'airain, de fer et de vêtements; partagez avec vos frères les dépouilles de vos ennemis. »
and speak unto them, saying, 'With great riches turn ye back unto your tents, and with very much cattle, with silver, and with gold, and with brass, and with iron, and with very much raiment; divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.'
9 Les fils de Ruben, les fils de Gad et la demi-tribu de Manassé, ayant quitté les enfants d'Israël à Silo, qui est dans le pays de Chanaan, s'en retournèrent pour aller dans le pays de Galaad, qui était la propriété qu'ils avaient reçue, comme Yahweh l'avait ordonné par Moïse.
And the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh, turn back and go from the sons of Israel out of Shiloh, which [is] in the land of Canaan, to go unto the land of Gilead, unto the land of their possession, in which they have possession, according to the command of Jehovah, by the hand of Moses;
10 Quand ils furent arrivés aux districts du Jourdain qui font partie du pays de Chanaan, les fils de Ruben, les fils de Gad et la demi-tribu de Manassé y bâtirent un autel au bord du Jourdain, un autel grand à voir.
and they come in unto the districts of the Jordan, which [are] in the land of Canaan, and the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh, build there an altar by the Jordan — a great altar for appearance.
11 Les enfants d'Israël apprirent que l'on disait: « Voilà que les fils de Ruben, les fils de Gad et la demi-tribu de Manassé ont bâti un autel sur le devant du pays de Chanaan, dans les districts du Jourdain, du côté des enfants d'Israël. »
And the sons of Israel hear, saying, 'Lo, the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh, have built the altar over-against the land of Canaan, on the districts of the Jordan, at the passage of the sons of Israel.'
12 Quand les enfants d'Israël l'eurent appris, toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël se réunit à Silo, pour monter contre eux et leur faire la guerre.
And the sons of Israel hear, and all the company of the sons of Israel is assembled at Shiloh, to go up against them to war;
13 Les enfants d'Israël envoyèrent auprès des fils de Ruben, des fils de Gad et de la demi-tribu de Manassé, au pays de Galaad, Phinées, fils du prêtre Eléazar,
and the sons of Israel send unto the sons of Reuben, and unto the sons of Gad, and unto the half of the tribe of Manasseh — unto the land of Gilead — Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest,
14 et avec lui dix princes, un prince de maison patriarcale, pour chacune des tribus d'Israël: tous étaient chefs de leur maison patriarcale parmi les milliers d'Israël.
and ten princes with him, one prince, one prince, for a house of a father, for all the tribes of Israel, and each of them a head of a house of their fathers, for the thousands of Israel.
15 S'étant rendus auprès des fils de Ruben, des fils de Gad et de la demi-tribu de Manassé, au pays de Galaad, ils leur parlèrent en disant:
And they come in unto the sons of Reuben, and unto the sons of Gad, and unto the half of the tribe of Manasseh, unto the land of Gilead, and speak with them, saying,
16 « Ainsi parle toute l'assemblée de Yahweh: Quelle infidélité avez-vous commise envers le Dieu d'Israël, de vous détourner aujourd'hui de Yahweh en vous bâtissant un autel pour vous révolter aujourd'hui contre Yahweh?
'Thus said all the company of Jehovah, What [is] this trespass which ye have trespassed against the God of Israel, to turn back to-day from after Jehovah, by your building for you an altar, for your rebelling to-day against Jehovah?
17 N'est-ce pas assez pour nous que le crime de Phogor, dont nous ne nous sommes pas encore purifiés jusqu'à ce jour, malgré la plaie qui frappa l'assemblée de Yahweh,
Is the iniquity of Peor little to us, from which we have not been cleansed till this day — and the plague is in the company of Jehovah,
18 pour que vous vous détourniez aujourd'hui de Yahweh? Si vous vous révoltez aujourd'hui contre Yahweh, demain il s'irritera contre toute l'assemblée d'Israël.
that ye turn back to-day from after Jehovah? and it hath been — ye rebel to-day against Jehovah — and to-morrow against all the company of Israel He is wroth.
19 Que si vous regardez comme impur le pays qui est en votre possession, passez dans le pays qui est la possession de Yahweh, où est fixée la demeure de Yahweh, et établissez-vous au milieu de nous; mais ne vous révoltez pas contre Yahweh et ne vous révoltez pas contre nous, en vous bâtissant un autel outre l'autel de Yahweh, notre Dieu.
'And surely, if the land of your possession is unclean, pass over for you unto the land of the possession of Jehovah, where the tabernacle of Jehovah hath tabernacled, and have possession in our midst; and against Jehovah rebel not, and against us rebel not, by your building for you an altar, besides the altar of Jehovah our God.
20 Achan, fils de Zaré, ne commit-il pas une infidélité au sujet des choses vouées par anathème, et la colère de Yahweh n'a-t-elle pas éclaté sur toute l'assemblée d'Israël? Et il ne fut pas le seul qui périt à cause de son crime. »
Did not Achan son of Zerah commit a trespass in the devoted thing, and on all the company of Israel there was wrath? and he alone expired not in his iniquity.'
21 Les fils de Ruben, les fils de Gad et la demi-tribu de Manassé répondirent et dirent aux chefs des milliers d'Israël:
And the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh, answer and speak with the heads of the thousands of Israel:
22 « Le Tout-Puissant, Dieu, Yahweh, le Tout-Puissant, Dieu, Yahweh le sait, et Israël le saura! Si c'est par rébellion et par infidélité envers Yahweh, ô Dieu, ne nous sauvez point en ce jour!...
'The God of gods — Jehovah, the God of gods — Jehovah, He is knowing, and Israel, he doth know, if in rebellion, and if in trespass against Jehovah (Thou dost not save us this day!)
23 Que si nous nous sommes bâti un autel, pour nous détourner de Yahweh, et si c'est pour y offrir des holocaustes et des oblations, pour y faire des sacrifices pacifiques; que Yahweh nous en demande compte!
[we are] building for ourselves an altar to turn back from after Jehovah, and if to cause to go up on it burnt-offering and present, and if to make on it peace-offerings — Jehovah Himself doth require [it].
24 et si ce n'est pas par crainte de ce qui arriverait que nous avons fait cela, nous disant: Vos fils diront un jour à nos fils: Qu'y a-t-il de commun entre vous et Yahweh, le Dieu d'Israël?
'And if not, from fear of [this] thing we have done it, saying, Hereafter your sons do speak to ours sons, saying, What to you and to Jehovah God of Israel?
25 Yahweh a mis le Jourdain comme limite entre nous et vous, fils de Ruben et fils de Gad; vous n'avez point de part à Yahweh. — Ainsi vos fils seraient cause que nos fils cesseraient de craindre Yahweh. —
for a border hath Jehovah put between us and you, O sons of Reuben, and sons of Gad — Jordan; ye have no portion in Jehovah — and your sons have caused our sons to cease, not to fear Jehovah.
26 Et nous nous sommes dit: Mettons-nous à bâtir un autel, non pour des holocaustes et pour des sacrifices;
'And we say, Pray let us prepare for ourselves to build the altar — not for burnt-offering nor for sacrifice —
27 mais afin qu'il soit un témoin entre nous et vous, et nos descendants après nous, que nous servons Yahweh devant sa face par nos holocaustes, par nos sacrifices et nos victimes pacifiques, afin que vos fils ne disent pas un jour à nos fils: Vous n'avez point de part à Yahweh.
but a witness it [is] between us and you, and between our generations after us, to do the service of Jehovah before Him with our burnt-offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace-offerings, and your sons do not say hereafter to our sons, Ye have no portion in Jehovah.
28 Nous avons dit: Si un jour ils parlaient ainsi à nous ou à nos descendants, nous leur répondrions: Voyez la forme de l'autel de Yahweh que nos pères ont construit, non pour servir à des holocaustes et à des sacrifices, mais pour être un témoin entre nous et vous.
'And we say, And it hath been, when they say [so] unto us, and unto our generations hereafter, that we have said, See the pattern of the altar of Jehovah, which our fathers made — not for burnt-offering nor for sacrifice — but a witness it [is] between us and you.
29 Loin de nous de vouloir nous révolter contre Yahweh et nous détourner aujourd'hui de Yahweh, en bâtissant un autel pour des holocaustes, pour des oblations et pour des sacrifices, outre l'autel de Yahweh, notre Dieu, qui est devant sa demeure! »
'Far be it from us to rebel against Jehovah, and to turn back to-day from after Jehovah, to build an altar for burnt-offering, for present, and for sacrifice, apart from the altar of Jehovah our God, which [is] before His tabernacle.'
30 Lorsque le prêtre Phinées et les princes de l'assemblée, chefs des milliers d'Israël, qui étaient avec lui, eurent entendu les paroles que prononcèrent les fils de Ruben, les fils de Gad et les fils de Manassé, ils furent satisfaits.
And Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the company, and the heads of the thousands of Israel, who [are] with him, hear the words which the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and the sons of Manasseh have spoken, and it is good in their eyes.
31 Et Phinées, fils du prêtre Eléazar, dit aux fils de Ruben, aux fils de Gad et aux fils de Manassé: « Nous reconnaissons maintenant que Yahweh est au milieu de nous, puisque vous n'avez pas commis cette infidélité envers Yahweh; vous avez ainsi délivré les enfants d'Israël de la main de Yahweh! »
And Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest saith unto the sons of Reuben, and unto the sons of Gad, and unto the sons of Manasseh, 'To-day we have known that Jehovah [is] in our midst, because ye have not committed against Jehovah this trespass — then ye have delivered the sons of Israel out of the hand of Jehovah.'
32 Phinées, fils du prêtre Eléazar, et les princes quittèrent les fils de Ruben et les fils de Gad, et revinrent du pays de Galaad dans le pays de Chanaan, vers les enfants d'Israël, auxquels ils firent leur rapport.
And Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, turn back from the sons of Reuben, and from the sons of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, unto the land of Canaan, unto the sons of Israel, and bring them back word;
33 La chose plut aux enfants d'Israël; ils bénirent Dieu et ne parlèrent plus de monter en armes contre eux, pour dévaster le pays qu'habitaient les fils de Ruben et les fils de Gad.
and the thing is good in the eyes of the sons of Israel, and the sons of Israel bless God, and have not said to go up against them to war, to destroy the land which the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, are dwelling in.
34 Les fils de Ruben et les fils de Gad appelèrent l'autel Ed, car, dirent-ils, il est témoin entre nous que Yahweh est le vrai Dieu.
And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad proclaim concerning the altar, that 'it [is] a witness between us that Jehovah [is] God.'
