Jérémie 22
1 Ainsi parle Yahweh: Descends à la maison du roi de Juda, et là tu prononceras ces paroles:
Yahweh said, “Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak this word there:
2 Tu diras: Ecoute la parole de Yahweh, ô roi de Juda, qui sièges sur le trône de David, toi, tes serviteurs et ton peuple, qui entrez par ces portes.
‘Hear Yahweh’s word, king of Judah, who sits on David’s throne—you, your servants, and your people who enter in by these gates.
3 Ainsi parle Yahweh: Faites droit et justice; arrachez l'opprimé aux mains de l'oppresseur; l'étranger, l'orphelin et la veuve, ne les maltraitez pas, ne les violentez pas, et ne versez pas le sang innocent dans ce lieu.
Yahweh says: “Execute justice and righteousness, and deliver him who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor. Do no wrong. Do no violence to the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow. Don’t shed innocent blood in this place.
4 Si vous accomplissez exactement cette parole, les rois assis sur le trône de David entreront par la porte de cette maison, montés sur des chars et sur des chevaux, eux, leurs serviteurs et leur peuple.
For if you do this thing indeed, then kings sitting on David’s throne will enter in by the gates of this house, riding in chariots and on horses—they, their servants, and their people.
5 Mais si vous n'écoutez pas ces paroles, je le jure par moi-même, — oracle de Yahweh, cette maison deviendra une ruine.
But if you will not hear these words, I swear by myself,” says Yahweh, “that this house will become a desolation.”’”
6 Car ainsi parle Yahweh, touchant la maison du roi de Juda: Tu es pour moi un Galaad, le sommet du Liban; eh bien! je ferai de toi un désert, des villes inhabitées.
For Yahweh says concerning the house of the king of Judah: “You are Gilead to me, the head of Lebanon. Yet surely I will make you a wilderness, cities which are not inhabited.
7 Je prépare contre toi des destructeurs, chacun avec ses outils; ils couperont tes cèdres de choix, et les jetteront au feu.
I will prepare destroyers against you, everyone with his weapons, and they will cut down your choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.
8 De nombreuses nations passeront par cette ville, et elles se diront l'une à l’autre: " Pourquoi Yahweh a-t-il ainsi traité cette grande ville? "
“Many nations will pass by this city, and they will each ask his neighbor, ‘Why has Yahweh done this to this great city?’
9 Et l'on dira: " Parce qu'ils ont abandonné l'alliance de Yahweh, leur Dieu, qu'ils se sont prosternés devant d'autres dieux, et les ont servis. "
Then they will answer, ‘Because they abandoned the covenant of Yahweh their God, worshiped other gods, and served them.’”
10 Ne pleurez point celui qui est mort, et ne vous lamentez pas sur lui; pleurez, pleurez celui qui s'en est allé, car il ne reviendra plus, et ne verra pas le pays de sa naissance!
Don’t weep for the dead. Don’t bemoan him; but weep bitterly for him who goes away, for he will return no more, and not see his native country.
11 Car ainsi parle Yahweh touchant Sellum, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, qui a régné à la place de Josias, son père, et qui est sorti de ce lieu: Il n'y reviendra plus;
For Yahweh says touching Shallum the son of Josiah, king of Judah, who reigned instead of Josiah his father, and who went out of this place: “He won’t return there any more.
12 au lieu où on l'a emmené captif, il mourra, et il ne reverra plus ce pays.
But he will die in the place where they have led him captive. He will see this land no more.”
13 Malheur à celui qui bâtit sa maison par l’injustice, et ses étages avec l'iniquité, qui fait travailler son prochain pour rien, sans lui donner son salaire!
“Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his rooms by injustice; who uses his neighbor’s service without wages, and doesn’t give him his hire;
14 Qui dit: " Je me bâtirai une maison vaste, et des chambres spacieuses; " qui y perce beaucoup de fenêtres, la couvre de cèdre, et la peint au vermillon!
who says, ‘I will build myself a wide house and spacious rooms,’ and cuts out windows for himself, with a cedar ceiling, and painted with red.
15 Es-tu roi parce que tu as la passion du cèdre! Ton père n'a-t-il pas mangé et bu? Il faisait droit et justice, alors tout allait bien pour lui;
“Should you reign because you strive to excel in cedar? Didn’t your father eat and drink, and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him.
16 il jugeait la cause du malheureux et du pauvre, alors tout allait bien. N'est-ce pas là me connaître, — oracle de Yahweh?
He judged the cause of the poor and needy; so then it was well. Wasn’t this to know me?” says Yahweh.
17 Mais tes yeux et ton cœur ne sont tournés qu'à ton intérêt, au sang innocent pour le répandre, à l'oppression et à la violence pour les commettre.
But your eyes and your heart are only for your covetousness, for shedding innocent blood, for oppression, and for doing violence.”
18 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle Yahweh touchant Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda: On ne pleurera pas sur lui, en disant: " Hélas! mon frère, hélas, ma sœur! " On ne pleurera pas sur lui, en disant: " Hélas, seigneur! hélas, majesté! "
Therefore Yahweh says concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah: “They won’t lament for him, saying, ‘Ah my brother!’ or, ‘Ah sister!’ They won’t lament for him, saying ‘Ah lord!’ or, ‘Ah his glory!’
19 Il sera enterré comme on enterre un âne, il sera traîné et jeté hors des portes de Jérusalem.
He will be buried with the burial of a donkey, drawn and cast out beyond the gates of Jerusalem.”
20 Monte au Liban et crie; élève ta voix en Basan! Crie du haut d'Abarim, car tous tes amants sont brisés.
“Go up to Lebanon, and cry out. Lift up your voice in Bashan, and cry from Abarim; for all your lovers have been destroyed.
21 Je t'ai parlé au temps de ta prospérité; tu as dit: " Je n'écouterai pas! " C'est là ta conduite dès ta jeunesse; tu n'as pas écouté ma voix!
I spoke to you in your prosperity, but you said, ‘I will not listen.’ This has been your way from your youth, that you didn’t obey my voice.
22 Car le vent emmènera paître tes pasteurs, et tes amants iront en captivité; alors tu seras couverte de confusion et de honte pour toute ta méchanceté.
The wind will feed all your shepherds, and your lovers will go into captivity. Surely then you will be ashamed and confounded for all your wickedness.
23 Toi qui habite au Liban, qui places ton nid dans les cèdres, comme tu gémiras quand viendront sur toi les douleurs, des convulsions pareilles à celles d'une femme en travail!
Inhabitant of Lebanon, who makes your nest in the cedars, how greatly to be pitied you will be when pangs come on you, the pain as of a woman in travail!
24 Je suis vivant! — oracle de Yahweh: Quand Jéchonias, fils de Joakim, roi de Juda serait un anneau à ma main droite, je l'arracherais de là!
“As I live,” says Yahweh, “though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet on my right hand, I would still pluck you from there.
25 Je te livrerai aux mains de ceux qui en veulent à ta vie, aux mains de ceux devant qui tu trembles, aux mains de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, et aux mains des Chaldéens.
I would give you into the hand of those who seek your life, and into the hand of them of whom you are afraid, even into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
26 Je te jetterai, toi et ta mère qui t'a mis au monde, dans un autre pays où vous n'êtes pas nés, et là vous mourrez.
I will cast you out with your mother who bore you into another country, where you were not born; and there you will die.
27 Et au pays où ils aspireront à revenir, ils ne reviendront pas.
But to the land to which their soul longs to return, there they will not return.”
28 Est-ce donc un vase méprisé et brisé que cet homme, Jéchonias, ou bien un ustensile dont personne ne veut?... Pourquoi les a-t-on chassés, lui et sa race, et les a-t-on jetés dans un pays qu'ils ne connaissaient pas?
Is this man Coniah a despised broken vessel? Is he a vessel in which no one delights? Why are they cast out, he and his offspring, and cast into a land which they don’t know?
29 Terre, terre, terre, écoute la parole de Yahweh!
O earth, earth, earth, hear Yahweh’s word!
30 Ainsi parle Yahweh: Inscrivez cet homme comme stérile, comme un homme qui ne réussit pas dans ses jours! Car nul de sa race ne réussira à s'asseoir sur le trône de David pour régner encore sur Juda!
Yahweh says, “Record this man as childless, a man who will not prosper in his days; for no more will a man of his offspring prosper, sitting on David’s throne and ruling in Judah.”
