1 Elisée dit: « Ecoutez la parole de Yahweh: Ainsi dit Yahweh: Demain, à cette heure, on aura une mesure de fleur de farine pour un sicle, et deux mesures d'orge pour un sicle, à la porte de Samarie. »

Then Elisha said, Hear all of you the word of the LORD; Thus says the LORD, Tomorrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.

2 L'officier sur la main duquel s'appuyait le roi répondit à l'homme de Dieu et dit: « Quand Yahweh ferait des fenêtres au ciel, cela pourrait-il arriver? » Elisée dit: « Voici que tu le verras de tes yeux, mais tu n'en mangeras point. »

Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but shall not eat thereof.

3 Il y avait à l'entrée de la porte quatre lépreux, qui se dirent l'un à l'autre: « Pourquoi resterions-nous ici jusqu'à ce que nous mourrions?

And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?

4 Si nous prenons le parti d'entrer dans la ville, la famine est dans la ville, et nous y mourrons; si nous restons ici, nous mourrons également. Venez donc et jetons-nous dans le camp des Syriens; s'ils nous laissent la vie, nous vivrons, et s'ils nous font mourir, nous mourrons. »

If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.

5 Ils se levèrent au crépuscule pour se rendre au camp des Syriens, et ils arrivèrent à l'entrée du camp des Syriens, et voici qu'il n'y avait personne.

And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there.

6 Le Seigneur avait fait entendre dans le camp des Syriens un bruit de chars et un bruit de chevaux, le bruit d'une grande armée, et ils s'étaient dit l'un à l'autre: « Voici que le roi d'Israël a pris à sa solde contre nous les rois des Héthéens et les rois des Egyptiens pour venir nous attaquer ».

For the LORD had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.

7 Et, se levant, ils avaient pris la fuite au crépuscule, abandonnant leurs tentes, leurs chevaux et leurs ânes, le camp tel qu'il était, et ils s'étaient enfuis pour sauver leur vie.

Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

8 Les lépreux, arrivés à l'entrée du camp, pénétrèrent dans une tente, et, après avoir bu et mangé, ils en emportèrent de l'argent, de l'or et des vêtements qu'ils allèrent cacher. Ils revinrent, pénétrèrent dans une autre tente et en emportèrent des objets qu'ils allèrent cacher de la même manière.

And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it.

9 Alors ils se dirent l'un à l'autre: « Nous n'agissons pas bien. Ce jour est un jour de bonne nouvelle; si nous gardons le silence et si nous attendons jusqu'à la lumière du matin, nous trouverons le châtiment. Venez donc et allons informer la maison du roi. »

Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king's household.

10 Ils partirent et, ayant appelé les gardes de la porte de la ville, ils leur firent ce rapport: « Nous sommes entrés dans le camp des Syriens, et voici qu'il n'y a personne, ni aucune voix d'homme; il n'y a que des chevaux attachés, des ânes attachés, et les tentes comme elles étaient. »

So they came and called unto the gate keeper of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied, and asses tied, and the tents as they were.

11 Les gardes de la porte poussèrent des cris et portèrent la nouvelle à l'intérieur de la maison du roi.

And he called the porters; and they told it to the king's house within.

12 Le roi se leva de nuit, et il dit à ses serviteurs: « Je veux vous apprendre ce que nous font les Syriens. Sachant que nous sommes affamés, ils ont quitté leur camp pour se cacher dans les champs, et ils se sont dit: Quand ils sortiront de la ville, nous les saisirons vivants, et nous entrerons dans la ville. »

And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I will now show you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.

13 L'un de ses serviteurs prit la parole et dit: « Que l'on prenne cinq des chevaux survivants qui restent encore dans la ville, — voici qu'ils sont comme toute la multitude d'Israël qui y est restée, voici qu'ils sont comme toute la multitude d'Israël qui se meurt, — et nous enverrons voir. »

And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray you, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed: ) and let us send and see.

14 On prit deux chars avec les chevaux, et le roi envoya des hommes sur les traces de l'armée des Syriens, en disant: « Allez et voyez. »

They took therefore two chariot horses; and the king sent after the host of the Syrians, saying, Go and see.

15 Ils Allèrent après eux jusqu'au Jourdain, et voici que toute la route était couverte de vêtements et d'objets que les Syriens avaient jetés, dans leur précipitation. A leur retour, les messagers rapportèrent tout au roi.

And they went after them unto Jordan: and, lo, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the messengers returned, and told the king.

16 Aussitôt le peuple sortit et pilla le camp des Syriens, et l'on eut une mesure de fleur de farine pour un sicle, et deux mesures d'orge pour un sicle, selon la parole de Yahweh.

And the people went out, and spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD.

17 Le roi avait confié la garde de la porte à l'officier sur la main duquel il s'appuyait; mais cet officier y fut foulé aux pieds par le peuple, et il mourut, selon la parole qu'avait dite l'homme de Dieu quand le roi était descendu vers lui.

And the king appointed the lord on whose hand he leaned to have the charge of the gate: and the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died, as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him.

18 En effet, quand l'homme de Dieu avait parlé au roi en disant: « On aura deux mesures d'orge pour un sicle et une mesure de fleur de farine pour un sicle, demain, à cette heure, à la porte de Samarie, »

And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be tomorrow about this time in the gate of Samaria:

19 l'officier avait répondu à l'homme de Dieu et dit: « Quand Yahweh ferait des fenêtres au ciel, cela pourrait-il arriver? » Et Elisée avait dit: « Voici que tu le verras de tes yeux, mais tu n'en mangeras point. »

And that lord answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if the LORD should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be? And he said, Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but shall not eat thereof.

20 Et c'est ce qui lui arriva: le peuple le foula aux pieds à la porte, et il mourut.

And so it fell out unto him: for the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died.
