1 La troisième année d'Osée, fils d'Ela, roi d'Israël, régna Ezéchias, fils d'Achaz, roi de Juda.
Now in the third yeere of Hoshea, sonne of Elah King of Israel, Hezekiah the sonne of Ahaz king of Iudah began to reigne.
2 Il avait vingt-cinq ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna vingt-neuf ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Abi, fille de Zacharias.
He was fiue and twentie yeere olde when he began to reigne, and reigned nine and twenty yeere in Ierusalem. His mothers name also was Abi the daughter of Zachariah,
3 Il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de Yahweh, selon tout ce qu'avait fait David, son père.
And he did vprightly in the sight of the Lord, according to all that Dauid his father had done.
4 Il fit disparaître les hauts lieux, brisa les stèles, coupa les aschérahs, et mit en pièces le serpent d'airain que Moïse avait fait, car les enfants d'Israël brûlaient jusqu'alors des parfums devant lui: on l'appelait Nohestan.
He tooke away the hie places, and brake the images, and cut downe the groues, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for vnto those dayes the children of Israel did burne incense to it, and hee called it Nehushtan.
5 Il mit sa confiance dans Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël, et il n'eut pas son semblable parmi tous les rois de Juda qui vinrent après lui ou qui le précédèrent.
He trusted in the Lord God of Israel: so that after him was none like him among all the Kings of Iudah, neither were there any such before him.
6 Attaché à Yahweh, il ne se détourna pas de lui, et il observa ses commandements que Yahweh avait prescrits à Moïse.
For he claue to the Lord, and departed not from him, but kept his commandements, which the Lord had commanded Moses.
7 Et Yahweh fut avec Ezéchias, et il réussit dans toutes ses entreprises. Ils se révolta contre le roi d'Assyrie, et il ne lui fut plus assujetti.
So the Lord was with him, and he prospered in all thinges, which he tooke in hande: also he rebelled against the King of Asshur, and serued him not.
8 Il battit les Philistins jusqu'à Gaza et ravagea son territoire, depuis la tour des gardiens jusqu'aux villes fortes.
He smote the Philistims vnto Azzah, and the coastes thereof, from the watch towre vnto the defensed citie.
9 La quatrième année du roi Ezéchias, qui était la septième année d'Osée, fils d'Ela, roi d'Israël, Salmanasar, roi d'Assyrie, monta contre Samarie et l'assiégea.
And in the fourth yere of King Hezekiah, (which was the seuenth yeere of Hoshea sonne of Elah King of Israel) Shalmaneser King of Asshur came vp against Samaria, and besieged it.
10 On la prit au bout de trois ans; ce fut la sixième année d'Ezéchias, qui était la neuvième d'Osée, roi d'Israël, que Samarie fut prise.
And after three yeeres they tooke it, euen in the sixt yeere of Hezekiah: that is, the ninth yeere of Hoshea King of Israel was Samaria taken.
11 Le roi d'Assyrie emmena Israël captif en Assyrie; il les établit à Hala, sur les rives du Habor, fleuve de Gosan, et dans les villes des Mèdes,
Then the King of Asshur did carry away Israel vnto Asshur, and put them in Halah and in Habor, by the riuer of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,
12 parce qu'ils n'avaient pas écouté la voix de Yahweh leur Dieu, et qu'ils avaient transgressé son alliance, parce qu'ils n'avaient ni écouté ni mis en pratique tout ce qu'avait ordonné Moïse, serviteur de Yahweh.
Because they woulde not obey the voyce of the Lord their God, but transgressed his couenant: that is, all that Moses the seruant of the Lord had commanded, and would neyther obey nor doe them.
13 La quatorzième année du roi Ezéchias, Sennachérib, roi d'Assyrie, monta contre toutes les villes fortes de Juda et s'en empara.
Moreouer, in the fourteenth yeere of King Hezekiah, Saneherib King of Asshur came vp against all the strong cities of Iudah, and tooke them.
14 Ezéchias, roi de Juda, envoya dire au roi d'Assyrie à Lachis: « J'ai commis une faute; éloigne-toi de moi; ce que tu m'imposeras, je le subirai. » Et le roi d'Assyrie imposa à Ezéchias, roi de Juda, trois cents talents d'argent et trente talents d'or.
Then Hezekiah King of Iudah sent vnto the King of Asshur to Lachish, saying, I haue offended: depart from me, and what thou layest vpon me, I wil beare it. And the King of Asshur appoynted vnto Hezekiah King of Iudah three hudreth talents of siluer, and thirty talets of golde.
15 Ezéchias donna tout l'argent qui se trouvait dans la maison de Yahweh et dans les trésors de la maison du roi.
Therefore Hezekiah gaue all the siluer that was found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasures of the Kings house.
16 En ce temps-là Ezéchias, roi de Juda, brisa les portes du temple de Yahweh et les piliers qu'Ezéchias, roi de Juda, avait lui-même revêtus d'or, et il donna l'or au roi d'Assyrie.
At the same season did Hezekiah pul off the plates of the doores of the Temple of the Lord, and the pillars (which the sayd Hezekiah King of Iudah had couered ouer) and gaue them to the King of Asshur.
17 Le roi d'Assyrie envoya de Lachis à Jérusalem, vers le roi Ezéchias, son général en chef, son chef des eunuques et son grand échanson avec une troupe nombreuse; ils montèrent et arrivèrent à Jérusalem. Lorsqu'ils furent montés et arrivés, ils s'arrêtèrent à l'aqueduc de l'étang supérieur, sur le chemin du champ du Foulon,
And the King of Asshur sent Tartan, and Rab-saris, and Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah with a great hoste against Ierusalem. And they went vp, and came to Ierusalem, and when they were come vp, they stood by the conduite of the vpper poole, which is by the path of the fullers fielde,
18 et appelèrent le roi. Eliacim, fils d'Helcias, chef de la maison du roi, se rendit auprès d'eux, avec Sobna, le secrétaire, et Joahé, fils d'Asaph, l'archiviste.
And called to the King. Then came out to them Eliakim the sonne of Hilkiah, which was steward of the house, and Shebnah the chanceller, and Ioah the sonne of Asaph the recorder.
19 Le grand échanson leur dit: « Dites à Ezéchias: Ainsi dit le grand roi, le roi d'Assyrie: Quelle est cette confiance sur laquelle tu t'appuies?
And Rabshakeh sayde vnto them, Tell ye Hezekiah, I pray you, Thus saith the great King, euen the great King of Asshur, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
20 Tu as dit — paroles en l'air! — J'ai conseil et force pour la guerre. Et maintenant, en qui te confies-tu pour te révolter contre moi?
Thou thinkest, Surely I haue eloquence, but counsell and strength are for the warre. On whom then doest thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
21 Voici que maintenant tu te fies à l'appui de ce roseau cassé — l'Egypte — qui pénètre et perce la main de quiconque s'appuie dessus: tel est Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, pour tous ceux qui se confient en lui.
Lo, thou trustest now in this broken staffe of reede, to wit, on Egypt, on which if a man leane, it will goe into his hand, and pearce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt vnto all that trust on him.
22 Peut-être me direz-vous: C'est en Yahweh, notre Dieu, que nous avons confiance!... Mais n'est-ce pas lui dont Ezéchias a fait disparaître les hauts lieux et les autels, en disant à Juda et à Jérusalem: Vous vous prosternerez devant cet autel, à Jérusalem?
But if ye say vnto me, We trust in the Lord our God, is not that he whose hie places, and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath sayd to Iudah and Ierusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Ierusalem?
23 Maintenant, fais un accord avec mon maître, le roi d'Assyrie: je te donnerai deux mille chevaux, si tu peux fournir des cavaliers pour les monter!...
Now therefore giue hostages to my lord the King of Asshur, and I will giue thee two thousand horses, if thou be able to set riders vpon them.
24 Comment repousserais-tu un seul chef d'entre les moindres serviteurs de mon maître? Aussi mets-tu ta confiance dans l'Egypte pour les chars et pour les cavaliers.
For how canst thou despise any captaine of the least of my masters seruants, and put thy trust on Egypt for charets and horsemen?
25 Maintenant, est-ce sans la volonté de Yahweh que je suis monté contre ce lieu pour le détruire? Yahweh m'a dit: « Monte contre ce pays et détruis-le. »
Am I now come vp without the Lord to this place, to destroy it? the Lord sayd to me, Goe vp against this land, and destroy it.
26 Eliacim, fils d'Helcias, Sobna et Joahé dirent au grand échanson: « Parle à tes serviteurs en araméen, car nous l'entendons; et ne nous parle pas en langue judaïque, aux oreilles du peuple qui est sur la muraille. »
Then Eliakim the sonne of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Ioah said vnto Rabshakeh, Speake I pray thee, to thy seruants in the Aramites language, for we vnderstand it, and talke not with vs in the Iewes tongue, in the audience of the people that are on the wall.
27 Le grand échanson leur répondit: « Est-ce à ton maître et à toi que mon maître m'a envoyé dire ces paroles? N'est-ce pas à ces hommes assis sur la muraille, pour manger leurs excréments et pour boire leur urine avec vous? »
But Rabshakeh saide vnto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speake these words, and not to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eate their owne doung, and drinke their owne pisse with you?
28 Alors le grand échanson, s'étant avancé, cria à haute voix en langue judaïque et tint ce langage: « Ecoutez la parole du grand roi, du roi d'Assyrie!
So Rabshakeh stoode and cryed with a loude voyce in the Iewes language, and spake, saying, Heare the wordes of the great King, of the king of Asshur.
29 Ainsi dit le roi: Qu'Ezéchias ne vous abuse pas, car il ne pourra vous délivrer de sa main.
Thus sayth the King, Let not Hezekiah deceiue you: for he shall not be able to deliuer you out of mine hand.
30 Qu'Ezéchias ne vous persuade pas de vous confier en Yahweh, en disant: Yahweh nous délivrera sûrement, et cette ville ne sera pas livrée entre les mains du roi d'Assyrie.
Neither let Hezekiah make you to trust in the Lord, saying, The Lord will surely deliuer vs, and this citie shall not be giuen ouer into the hand of the king of Asshur.
31 N'écoutez point Ezéchias, car ainsi dit le roi d'Assyrie: Faites la paix avec moi et rendez-vous à moi; et que chacun de vous mange de sa vigne et chacun de son figuier, et que chacun boive l'eau de son puits,
Hearken not vnto Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Asshur, Make appointment with me, and come out to me, that euery man may eate of his owne vine, and euery man of his owne figge tree, and drinke euery man of the water of his owne well,
32 jusqu'à ce que je vienne et que je vous emmène dans un pays comme le vôtre, un pays de blé et de vin, un pays de pain et de vignes, un pays d'oliviers à huile et de miel, afin que vous viviez et ne mourriez point. N'écoutez donc pas Ezéchias, car il vous abuse en disant: Yahweh nous délivrera.
Till I come, and bring you to a land like your owne land, euen a land of wheate and wine, a land of bread and vineyardes, a lande of oliues oyle, and hony, that ye may liue and not die: and obey not Hezekiah, for he deceiueth you, saying, The Lord will deliuer vs.
33 Est-ce que les dieux des nations ont délivré chacun leur pays de la main du roi d'Assyrie?
Hath any of the gods of the nations deliuered his lande out of the hand of the King of Asshur?
34 Où sont les dieux d'Emath et d'Arphad? Où sont les dieux de Sépharvaïm, d'Ana et d'Ava? Ont-ils délivré Samarie de ma main?
Where is the god of Hamah, and of Arpad? where is the god of Sepharuaim, Hena and Iuah? how haue they deliuered Samaria out of mine hand?
35 Quels sont, parmi tous les dieux des pays, ceux qui ont délivré leur pays de ma main, pour que Yahweh puisse délivrer Jérusalem de ma main? »
Who are they among all the gods of the nations, that haue deliuered their lande out of mine hand, that the Lord should deliuer Ierusalem out of mine hand?
36 Le peuple se tut et ne lui répondit pas un mot, car le roi avait donné cet ordre: « Vous ne lui répondrez pas. »
But the people helde their peace, and answered not him a worde: for the Kings commandement was, saying, Answere ye him not.
37 Et Eliacim, fils d'Helcias, chef de la maison du roi, Sobna, le secrétaire, et Joahé, fils d'Asaph, l'archiviste, vinrent auprès d'Ezéchias, les vêtements déchirés, et lui rapportèrent les paroles du grand échanson.
Then Eliakim, the sonne of Hilkiah which was steward of the house, and Shebnah the chanceller, and Ioah the sonne of Asaph the recorder came to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and tolde him the wordes of Rabshakeh.
