2 Chroniques 23

1 La septième année, Joïada, s'étant affermi, prit avec lui comme alliés les centurions Azarias, fils de Jéroham, Ismaël, fils de Johanan, Azarias, fils d'Obed, Maasias, fils d'Adaïas, et Elisaphat, fils de Zechri.

In the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zikri, into covenant with him.

2 Ils parcoururent Juda et, ayant rassemblé les lévites de toutes les villes de Juda et les chefs de famille d'Israël, ils vinrent à Jérusalem.

They went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the heads of fathers' households of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

3 Toute l'assemblée fit alliance avec le roi dans la maison de Dieu. Joïada leur dit: " Voici que le fils du roi va régner, comme Yahweh l'a déclaré à l'égard des fils de David.

All the assembly made a covenant in the house of God with the king. And he showed them the king's son. And he said to them, "Look, the king's son shall reign, as the LORD has spoken concerning the descendants of David.

4 Voici ce que vous ferez: Le tiers d'entre vous qui entre en service le jour du sabbat, prêtres et lévites, servira comme gardiens des portes;

This is the thing that you shall do. A third part of you, who come in on the Sabbath, of the cohanim and of the Levites, shall be gatekeepers of the thresholds.

5 un tiers servira à la maison du roi, et un tiers servira à la porte de Jésod; tout le peuple sera dans les parvis de la maison de Yahweh.

A third part shall be at the king's house; and a third part at the gate of the foundation. All the people shall be in the courts of the LORD's house.

6 Que personne n'entre dans la maison de Yahweh, excepté les prêtres et les lévites de service: eux peuvent y entrer, car ils sont saints; et tout le peuple doit garder l'observance de Yahweh.

But let no one come into the house of the LORD, except the cohanim, and those who minister of the Levites. They shall come in, for they are holy, but all the people shall follow the LORD's instructions.

7 Les lévites entoureront le roi de toutes parts, chacun les armes à la main et, si quelqu'un entre dans la maison, qu'on le mette à mort; et vous serez près du roi quand il entrera et quand il sortira. "

The Levites shall surround the king, every man with his weapons in his hand. Whoever comes into the house, let him be slain. Be with the king when he comes in, and when he goes out."

8 Les lévites et tout Juda agirent selon tout ce qu'avait ordonné le prêtre Joïada. Ils prirent chacun leurs gens, ceux qui entraient en service et ceux qui sortaient de service le jour du sabbat; car le prêtre Joïada n'avait exempté aucune des divisions.

So the Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the cohen commanded: and they took every man his men, those who were to come in on the Sabbath; with those who were to go out on the Sabbath; for Jehoiada the cohen did not dismiss the shift.

9 Le prêtre Joïada remit aux centurions les lances et les boucliers, grands et petits, qui avaient appartenu au roi David, et qui se trouvaient dans la maison de Dieu.

Jehoiada the cohen delivered to the captains of hundreds the spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been king David's, which were in God's house.

10 Il fit placer tout le peuple, chacun son arme à la main, depuis le côté droit de la maison jusqu'au côté gauche de la maison, près de l'autel et près de la maison, de manière à entourer le roi.

He set all the people, every man with his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, along by the altar and the house, around the king.

11 On fit avancer le fils du roi, on mit sur lui le diadème et le témoignage, et on l'établit roi. Et Joïada et ses fils l'oignirent, et ils dirent: " Vive le roi! "

Then he brought out the king's son, and put the crown on him, and gave him the testimony, and made him king: and Jehoiada and his sons anointed him; and they said, "Long live the king."

12 Lorsqu'Athalie entendit le bruit du peuple, courant et acclamant le roi, elle vint vers le peuple, à la maison de Yahweh.

When Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into the house of the LORD:

13 Elle regarda, et voici que le roi se tenait sur son estrade à l'entrée; près du roi étaient les chefs et les trompettes, et tout le peuple du pays était dans la joie; on sonnait des trompettes, et les chantres avec les instruments de musique donnaient des instructions pour les hymnes de louange. Athalie déchira ses vêtements et dit: " Conspiration! Conspiration! "

and she looked, and, look, the king stood by his pillar at the entrance, and the captains and the trumpets by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew trumpets; the singers also played musical instruments, and led the singing of praise. 14 Alors le prêtre Joïada fit sortir les centurions, qui étaient à la tête de l'armée, et leur dit: " Faites-la sortir entre les rangs, et que quiconque la suivra soit mis à mort par l'épée! " Car le prêtre avait dit: " Ne la mettez pas à mort dans la maison de Yahweh. "

Jehoiada the cohen brought out the captains of hundreds who were set over the army, and said to them, "Bring her out between the ranks; and whoever follows her, let him be slain with the sword." For the cohen said, "Do not kill her in the LORD's house."

15 On lui fit place des deux côtés, et elle se rendit à l'entrée de la porte des chevaux, vers la maison du roi, et c'est là qu'ils la mirent à mort.

So they made way for her. She went to the entrance of the Horse Gate to the king's house; and they killed her there.

16 Joïada conclut entre lui, tout le peuple et le roi une alliance par laquelle ils devaient être le peuple de Yahweh.

Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, and all the people, and the king, that they should be the LORD's people.

17 Et tout le peuple entra dans la maison de Baal, et ils la démolirent; ils brisèrent ses autels et ses images, et ils tuèrent devant les autels Mathan, prêtre de Baal.

All the people went to the house of Baal, and broke it down, and broke his altars and his images in pieces, and killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

18 Joïada mit des gardiens dans la maison de Yahweh, sous l'autorité des prêtres et des lévites, que David avait distribués dans la maison de Yahweh pour qu'ils offrissent des holocaustes à Yahweh, comme il est écrit dans la loi de Moïse, au milieu des réjouissances et des chants, d'après les ordonnances de David.

Jehoiada appointed the officers of the house of the LORD under the hand of the cohanim and the Levites, and he appointed the divisions of the cohanim and the Levites, whom David had assigned in the house of the LORD, to offer the burnt offerings of the LORD, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, according to the order of David.

19 Il établit les portiers aux portes de la maison de Yahweh, afin qu'il n'y entrât aucune personne souillée en quelque manière.

He set the gatekeepers at the gates of the house of the LORD, that no one who was unclean in anything should enter in.

20 Il prit les centurions, les hommes considérés, ceux qui avaient autorité sur le peuple et tout le peuple du pays, et il fit descendre le roi de la maison de Yahweh. Ils entrèrent dans la maison du roi par la porte supérieure, et ils firent asseoir le roi sur le trône de la royauté.

He took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of the LORD: and they came through the Upper Gate to the king's house, and set the king on the throne of the kingdom.

21 Tout le peuple du pays se réjouit, et la ville fut tranquille; on fit mourir Athalie par l'épée.

So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet. Athaliah they had slain with the sword.
