2 Chroniques 2

1 Salomon résolut de bâtir une maison au nom de Yahweh, et une maison royale pour lui.

And Solomon saith to build a house for the name of Jehovah, and a house for his kingdom,

2 Salomon compta soixante-dix mille hommes pour porter les fardeaux, quatre-vingt mille pour tailler les pierres dans la montagne, et trois mille six cents pour les surveiller.

and Solomon numbereth seventy thousand men bearing burden, and eighty thousand men hewing in the mountain, and overseers over them — three thousand and six hundred.

3 Salomon envoya dire à Hiram, roi de Tyr: " Comme tu as fait pour David, mon père, à qui tu as envoyé des cèdres afin qu'il se bâtit une maison pour y habiter, fais de même pour moi.

And Solomon sendeth unto Huram king of Tyre, saying, 'When thou hast dealt with David my father, then thou dost send to him cedars to build for him a house to dwell in;

4 Voici que j'élève une maison au nom de Yahweh, mon Dieu, pour la lui consacrer, pour brûler devant lui le parfum odoriférant, pour présenter continuellement les pains de proposition et pour offrir les holocaustes du matin et du soir, des sabbats, des nouvelles lunes et des fêtes de Yahweh, notre Dieu, selon qu'il est prescrit à Israël pour jamais.

lo, I am building a house to the name of Jehovah my God, to sanctify [it] to Him, to make perfume before Him, perfume of spices, and a continual arrangement, and burnt-offerings at morning and at evening, at sabbaths, and at new moons, and at appointed seasons of Jehovah our God; to the age this [is] on Israel.

5 La maison que je vais bâtir doit être grande, car notre Dieu est plus grand que tous les dieux.

'And the house that I am building [is] great, for greater [is] our God than all gods;

6 Mais qui est capable de lui bâtir une maison, puisque le ciel et le ciel des cieux ne peuvent le contenir? Et qui suis-je pour lui bâtir une maison, si ce n'est pour faire brûler des parfums devant lui?

and who doth retain strength to build to Him a house, for the heavens, even the heavens of the heavens, do not contain Him? and who [am] I that I do build to Him a house, except to make perfume before Him?

7 Et maintenant, envoie-moi un homme habile à travailler l'or et l'argent, l'airain et le fer, la pourpre rouge, le cramoisi et la pourpre violette, et connaissant l'art de la gravure, pour qu'il travaille avec les hommes habiles qui sont auprès de moi en Juda et à Jérusalem, et que David, mon père, a préparés.

'And now, send to me a wise man to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and knowing to grave gravings with the wise men who [are] with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father prepared;

8 Envoie-moi aussi du Liban des bois de cèdre, de cyprès et de santal; car je sais que tes serviteurs savent couper les bois du Liban. Mes serviteurs seront avec tes serviteurs,

and send to me cedar-trees, firs, and algums from Lebanon, for I have known that thy servants know to cut down trees of Lebanon, and lo, my servants [are] with thy servants,

9 pour me préparer du bois en abondance, car la maison que je vais bâtir sera grande et magnifique.

even to prepare for me trees in abundance, for the house that I am building [is] great and wonderful.

10 Et voici qu'aux bûcherons qui couperont les bois, à tes serviteurs, je donnerai, pour leur nourriture, vingt mille cors de froment, vingt mille cors d'orge, vingt mille baths de vin et vingt mille baths d'huile. "

'And lo, to hewers, to those cutting the trees, I have given beaten wheat to thy servants, cors twenty thousand, and barley, cors twenty thousand, and wine, baths twenty thousand, and oil, baths twenty thousand.'

11 Hiram, roi de Tyr, répondit dans une lettre qu'il envoya à Salomon: " C'est parce que Yahweh aime son peuple qu'il t'a établi roi sur eux. "

And Huram king of Tyre saith in writing, and sendeth unto Solomon: 'In the love of Jehovah to His people He hath given thee king over them.'

12 Et Hiram dit: " Béni soit Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël, qui a fait le ciel et la terre, de ce qu'il a donné au roi David un fils sage, prudent et intelligent, qui va bâtir une maison à Yahweh et une maison royale pour lui!

And Huram saith, 'Blessed [is] Jehovah, God of Israel, who made the heavens and the earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, knowing wisdom and understanding, who doth build a house for Jehovah, and a house for his kingdom.

13 Et maintenant, je t'envoie un homme habile et intelligent, maître Hiram,

'And now, I have sent a wise man having understanding, of Huram my father,

14 fils d'une femme d'entre les filles de Dan et d'un père Tyrien, habile à travailler l'or et l'argent, l'airain et le fer, les pierres et les bois, la pourpre rouge, la pourpre violette, le cramoisi, le lin fin, à faire toute espèce de gravures, et à élaborer tout plan qui lui sera proposé, de concert avec tes hommes habiles et avec les hommes habiles de mon seigneur David, ton père.

(son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father a man of Tyre), knowing to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stones, and in wood, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson, and to grave any graving, and to devise any device that is given to him, with thy wise men, and the wise men of my lord David thy father.

15 Et maintenant, que mon seigneur envoie à ses serviteurs le froment, l'orge, l'huile et le vin dont il a parlé.

'And, now, the wheat, and the barley, the oil, and the wine, as my lord said, let him send to his servants,

16 Et nous, nous couperons des bois du Liban, autant que tu en auras besoin; et nous te les expédierons par mer en radeaux jusqu'à Joppé, et toi, tu les feras monter à Jérusalem.

and we — we cut trees out of Lebanon, according to all thy need, and bring them in to thee — floats by sea, to Joppa, and thou dost take them up to Jerusalem.'

17 Salomon compta tous les étrangers qui étaient dans le pays d'Israël, d'après le dénombrement qu'avait fait David, son père. On en trouva cent cinquante trois mille six cents.

And Solomon numbereth all the men, the sojourners who [are] in the land of Israel, after the numbering with which David his father numbered them, and they are found a hundred and fifty thousand, and three thousand, and six hundred;

18 Et il en prit soixante-dix mille pour les fardeaux, quatre-vingt mille pour tailler les pierres dans la montagne, et trois mille six cents comme surveillants pour faire travailler le peuple.

and he maketh of them seventy thousand burden-bearers, and eighty thousand hewers in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers, to cause the people to work.
