1 Samuel 29
1 Les Philistins rassemblèrent toutes leurs troupes à Aphec, et Israël était campé près de la source, en Jezraël.
Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek; and the Israelites encamped by the spring which is in Jezreel.
2 Pendant que les princes des Philistins s'avançaient en tête des centaines et des milliers, et que David et ses gens marchaient à l'arrière-garde avec Achis,
The lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds and by thousands; and David and his men passed on in the rear with Achish.
3 les chefs des Philistins dirent: « Qu'est-ce que ces Hébreux? » Achis répondit aux chefs des Philistins: « N'est-ce pas ce David, serviteur de Saül, roi d'Israël, qui est avec moi depuis des jours et depuis des années, sans que j'aie trouvé en lui la moindre chose à reprocher, depuis qu'il a passé vers nous jusqu'à ce jour. »
Then the princes of the Philistines said, “What about these Hebrews?” Achish said to the princes of the Philistines, “Isn’t this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who has been with me these days, or rather these years? I have found no fault in him since he fell away until today.”
4 Mais les chefs des Philistins s'irritèrent contre Achis, et les chefs des Philistins lui dirent: « Renvoie cet homme, et qu'il retourne dans le lieu où tu l'as établi; qu'il ne descende pas avec nous à la bataille, de peur qu'il ne soit pour nous un adversaire pendant le combat. Et comment pourrait-il rentrer en grâce auprès de son maître, si ce n'est en lui offrant les têtes de ces hommes?
But the princes of the Philistines were angry with him; and the princes of the Philistines said to him, “Make the man return, that he may go back to his place where you have appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For with what should this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Should it not be with the heads of these men?
5 N'est-ce pas ce David pour qui l'on chantait en dansant: Saül a tué ses mille, et David ses dix mille. »
Isn’t this David, of whom people sang to one another in dances, saying, ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands’?”
6 Achis appela David et lui dit: « Aussi vrai que Yahweh est vivant! tu es un homme droit, et je vois de bon œil toute ta conduite avec moi dans le camp, car je n'ai rien trouvé de mauvais en toi, depuis le jour où tu es venu vers moi jusqu'à ce jour; mais tu déplais aux yeux des princes.
Then Achish called David and said to him, “As the LORD lives, you have been upright, and your going out and your coming in with me in the army is good in my sight; for I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords don’t favor you.
7 Retourne donc et va-t-en en paix, pour ne rien faire de désagréable aux yeux des princes des Philistins. »
Therefore now return, and go in peace, that you not displease the lords of the Philistines.”
8 David dit à Achis: « Mais qu'ai-je fait, et qu'as-tu trouvé en ton serviteur, depuis le jour où je suis venu auprès de toi jusqu'à ce jour, pour que je n'aille pas combattre les ennemis de mon seigneur le roi? »
David said to Achish, “But what have I done? What have you found in your servant so long as I have been before you to this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
9 Achis répondit et dit à David: « Je sais que tu as été bon à mon égard comme un ange de Dieu; mais les chefs des Philistins disent: il ne montera point avec nous à la bataille.
Achish answered David, “I know that you are good in my sight, as an angel of God. Notwithstanding, the princes of the Philistines have said, ‘He shall not go up with us to the battle.’
10 Ainsi lève-toi de bon matin, toi et les serviteurs de ton seigneur qui sont venus avec toi; levez-vous de bon matin, et dès qu'il fera jour, partez. »
Therefore now rise up early in the morning with the servants of your lord who have come with you; and as soon as you are up early in the morning and have light, depart.”
11 David et ses gens se levèrent de bonne heure, pour partir dès le matin et retourner au pays des Philistins; et les Philistins montèrent à Jezraël.
So David rose up early, he and his men, to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines; and the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
