1 Chroniques 11

1 Tout Israël s'assembla auprès de David à Hébron, en disant: " Voici que nous sommes tes os et ta chair.

And all Israel came to David in Chebron, saying, Behold, we [are] thy bones and thy flesh.

2 Autrefois déjà, quand Saül était roi, c'était toi qui menais et ramenais Israël. Et Yahweh, ton Dieu, t'a dit: C'est toi qui paîtras mon peuple d'Israël, et c'est toi qui seras chef sur mon peuple d'Israël. "

And heretofore when Saul was king, thou wast he that led Israel in and out, and the Lord of Israel said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be for a ruler over Israel.

3 Ainsi tous les anciens d'Israël vinrent auprès du roi à Hébron, et David fit alliance avec eux devant Yahweh, à Hébron; et ils oignirent David pour roi sur Israël, selon la parole de Yahweh prononcée par Samuel.

And all the elders of Israel came to the king to Chebron; and king David made a covenant with them in Chebron before the Lord: and they anointed David to be king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by Samuel.

4 David marcha avec tout Israël contre Jérusalem, qui est Jébus; là étaient les Jébuséens, habitants du pays.

And the king and his men went to Jerusalem, this [is] Jebus; and there the Jebusites the inhabitants of the land said to David,

5 Les habitants de Jébus dirent à David: " Tu n'entreras pas ici. " Mais David s'empara de la forteresse de Sion: c'est la cité de David.

Thou shalt not enter in hither. But he took the strong hold of Sion: this [is] the city of David.

6 David dit: " Quiconque battra le premier les Jébuséens sera chef et prince. " Joab, fils de Sarvia, monta le premier, et il devint chef.

And David said, Whoever first smites the Jebusite, even he shall be chief and captain. And Joab the son of Saruia went up first, and became chief.

7 David s'établit dans la forteresse; c'est pourquoi on l'appela cité de David.

And David dwelt in the strong hold; therefore he called it the city of David.

8 Il bâtit la ville tout autour, à partir du Mello et aux environs, et Joab répara le reste de la ville.

And he fortified the city round about.

9 David devenait de plus en plus grand, et Yahweh des armées était avec lui.

And David continued to increase, and the Lord Almighty [was] with him.

10 Voici les chefs des héros qui étaient au service de David, et qui, avec tout Israël, l'aidèrent pendant son règne, après avoir contribué à le faire roi, selon la parole de Yahweh au sujet d'Israël.

And these [are] the chiefs of the mighty men, whom David had, who strengthened [themselves] with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the Lord concerning Israel.

11 Voici le nombre des héros qui étaient au service de David: Jesbaam, fils de Hachamoni, chef des Trente. Il brandit sa lance sur trois cents hommes, qu'il fit périr en une seule fois.

And this [is] the list of the mighty [men] of David; Jesebada, son of Achaman, first of the thirty: he drew his sword once against three hundred whom he slew at one time.

12 Après lui, Eléazar, fils de Dodo, l'Ahohite; il était parmi les trois vaillants.

And after him Eleazar son of Dodai, the Achochite: he was among the three mighty men.

13 Il était avec David à Phes-Domim, et les Philistins s'y étaient rassemblés pour combattre. Il y avait là une pièce de terre pleine d'orge, et le peuple fuyait devant les Philistins.

He was with David in Phasodamin, and the Philistines were gathered there to battle, and [there was] a portion of the field full of barley; and the people fled before the Philistines.

14 Ils se placèrent au milieu du champ, le défendirent et battirent les Philistins; et Yahweh opéra une grande délivrance.

And he stood in the midst of the portion, and rescued it, and smote the Philistines; and the Lord wrought a great deliverance.

15 Trois d'entre les trente capitaines descendirent auprès de David sur le rocher, à la caverne d'Odollam, tandis que le camp des Philistins était dressé dans la vallée des Réphaïm.

And three of the thirty chiefs went down to the rock to David, to the cave of Odollam, and the camp of the Philistines [was] in the giants' valley.

16 David était alors dans la forteresse, et il y avait un poste de Philistins à Bethléem.

And David [was] then in the hold, and the garrison of the Philistines [was] then in Bethleem.

17 David eut un désir, et il dit: " Qui me fera boire de l'eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléem? "

And David longed, and said, Who will give me water to drink of the well of Bethleem, that is in the gate?

18 Aussitôt les trois hommes, passant au travers du camp des Philistins, puisèrent de l'eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléem. Ils la prirent et l'apportèrent à David; mais David ne voulut pas la boire, et il en fit une libation à Yahweh,

And the three broke through the camp of the Philistines, and they drew water out of the well that was in Bethleem, which was in the gate, and they took it, and came to David: but David would not drink it, and poured it out to the Lord, and said,

19 en disant: " Que mon Dieu me garde de faire cela! Boirais-je le sang de ces hommes avec leur vie? Car c'est au péril de leur vie qu'ils l'ont apportée. " Et il ne voulut pas la boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois braves.

God forbid that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men with their lives? for with [the peril of] their lives they brought it. So he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty [men].

20 Abisaï, frère de Joab, était chef des Trois; il brandit sa lance contre trois cents hommes et les tua, et il eut du renom parmi les trois.

And Abisa the brother of Joab, he was chief of three: he drew his sword against three hundred slain at one time, and he had a name among the [second] three.

21 Il était le plus considéré de la seconde triade, et il fut leur chef; mais il n'égala pas les trois premiers.

He was more famous than the two [others] of the three, and he was chief [over] them; yet he reached not to the [first] three.

22 Banaïas, fils de Joïada, fils d'un homme vaillant et riche en exploits, de Cabséel. Il frappa les deux ariels de Moab. Il descendit et frappa le lion au milieu de la citerne un jour de neige.

And Banaia the son of Jodae was the son of a mighty man: many [were] his acts for Cabasael: he smote two lion-like men of Moab, and he went down and smote a lion in a pit on a snowy day.

23 Il frappa un Egyptien d'une stature de cinq coudées; et dans la main de l'Egyptien, il y avait une lance semblable à une ensouple de tisserand. Il descendit vers lui avec un bâton, et il arracha la lance de la main de l'Egyptien et le frappa de sa propre lance.

And he smote an Egyptian, a wonderful man five cubits [high]; and in the hand of the Egyptian [there was] a spear like a weavers' beam; and Banaia went down to him with a staff, and took the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.

24 Voilà ce que fit Banaïas, fils de Joïada, et il eut du renom parmi les trois vaillants.

These things did Banaia son of Jodae, and his name [was] among the three mighties.

25 Voici qu'il était plus considéré que les trente, mais il n'égala pas les trois. David le fit membre de son conseil secret.

He was distinguished beyond the thirty, yet he reached not to the [first] three: and David set him over his family.

26 Hommes vaillants de l'armée: Asaël, frère de Joab; Elchanan, fils de Dodo, de Bethléem;

And the mighty [men] of the forces [were], Asael the brother of Joab, Eleanan the son of Dodoe of Bethleem,

27 Sammoth, d'Arori; Hellès, de Phalon;

Samaoth the Arorite, Chelles the Phelonite,

28 Hira, fils d'Accès, de Thécué; Abiéser, d'Anathot;

Ora the son of Ekkis the Thecoite, Abiezer the Anathothite,

29 Sobbochaï, le Husathite; Ilaï, l'Ahohite;

Sobochai the Usathite, Eli the Achonite,

30 Maharaï, de Nétopha; Héled, fils de Baana, de Nétopha;
