Proverbes 27
1 Ne te glorifie pas du lendemain, car tu ne sais pas ce qu’enfantera le jour suivant.
Boast not thyself of to-morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
2 Qu’un autre te loue, et non ta bouche; un étranger, et non tes lèvres.
Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
3 La pierre est lourde et le sable est pesant: plus que l’un et l’autre pèse la colère de l’insensé.
A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's vexation is heavier than they both.
4 La fureur est cruelle et la colère impétueuse; mais qui pourra tenir devant la jalousie?
Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; but who is able to stand before jealousy?
5 Mieux vaut une réprimande ouverte qu’une amitié cachée.
Better is open rebuke than love that is hidden.
6 Les blessures d’un ami sont inspirées par la fidélité, mais les baisers d’un ennemi sont trompeurs.
Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are importunate.
7 Celui qui est rassasié foule aux pieds le rayon de miel, mais à celui qui a faim tout ce qui est amer paraît doux.
The full soul loatheth a honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
8 Comme l’oiseau qui erre loin de son nid, ainsi l’homme qui erre loin de son lieu.
As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.
9 L’huile et les parfums réjouissent le cœur; telle la douceur d’un ami dont le conseil vient du cœur.
Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart; so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.
10 N’abandonne pas ton ami et l’ami de ton père, et n’entre pas dans la maison de ton frère au jour de ta détresse; mieux vaut un voisin proche qu’un frère éloigné.
Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity; better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.
11 Mon fils, deviens sage et réjouis mon cœur, afin que je puisse répondre à celui qui m’outrage.
My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that taunteth me.
12 L’homme prudent voit le mal et se cache; les simples passent et en portent la peine.
A prudent man seeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the thoughtless pass on, and are punished.
13 Prends son vêtement, car il a répondu pour autrui; demande des gages à cause des étrangers.
Take his garment that is surety for a stranger; and hold him in pledge that is surety for an alien woman.
14 Bénir son prochain à haute voix et de grand matin est réputé comme une malédiction.
He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
15 Une gouttière continue dans un jour de pluie et une femme querelleuse se ressemblent.
A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike;
16 Celui qui la retient, retient le vent, et sa main saisit de l’huile.
He that would hide her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand betrayeth itself.
17 Le fer aiguise le fer; ainsi un homme aiguise un autre homme.
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
18 Celui qui garde son figuier en mangera les fruits, et celui qui garde son maître sera honoré.
Whoso keepeth the fig-tree shall eat the fruit thereof; and he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.
19 Comme dans l’eau le visage répond au visage, ainsi le cœur de l’homme répond à l’homme.
As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.
20 Le schéol et l’abîme ne sont jamais rassasiés, de même les yeux de l’homme ne sont jamais rassasiés. (Sheol h7585)
The nether-world and Destruction are never satiated; so the eyes of man are never satiated. (Sheol h7585)
21 Le creuset est pour l’argent, et le fourneau pour l’or; que l’homme éprouve de même la louange qu’il reçoit!
The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, and a man is tried by his praise.
22 Quand tu pilerais l’insensé dans un mortier, comme on broie le grain, avec le pilon, sa folie ne se séparerait pas de lui.
Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar with a pestle among groats, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
23 Connais bien l’état de tes brebis, applique ton attention à ton troupeau;
Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds;
24 car la richesse ne dure pas toujours, ni une couronne d’âge en âge.
For riches are not for ever; and doth the crown endure unto all generations?
25 Mais quand l’herbe a paru, que la verdure s’est montrée, que le foin des montagnes est recueilli,
When the hay is mown, and the tender grass showeth itself, and the herbs of the mountains are gathered in;
26 tu as des agneaux pour te vêtir, des boucs pour payer un champ;
The lambs will be for thy clothing, and the goats the price for a field.
27 tu as en abondance le lait des chèvres, pour ta nourriture et celle de ta maison, et pour l’entretien de tes servantes.
And there will be goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household; and maintenance for thy maidens.
