Isaïe 31
1 Malheur à ceux qui descendent en Égypte chercher du secours, qui s’appuient sur les chevaux, mettent leur confiance dans les chars, parce qu’ils sont nombreux, et dans les cavaliers, parce qu’ils sont forts, mais ne regardent pas vers le Saint d’Israël, et ne recherchent pas Yahweh.
Alas! for them who are going down to Egypt for help, On horses, would rely, —And have trusted—In chariots—because they are many, and In horsemen, because they are very bold, But have not looked unto the Holy One of Israel, And onto Yahweh, have not sought.
2 Cependant il est sage, il fait venir le malheur, il ne révoque pas ses paroles; il s’élèvera contre la maison des méchants, et contre le secours de ceux qui commettent l’iniquité.
But, he also, is wise, and hath brought in calamity, And his own words, hath he not set aside, —Therefore will he rise up, Against the house of evil-doers, and Against the help of the workers of iniquity.
3 L’Egyptien est un homme, et non un Dieu; ses chevaux sont chair, et non esprit; Yahweh étendra sa main, celui qui secourt trébuchera, et le secouru tombera, et ils périront tous ensemble.
Now, the Egyptians, are, men, and not, GOD, And, their horses, flesh, and not, spirit; When, Yahweh, shall stretch out his hand, Then, he that is giving help, shall stumble And, he that is receiving help, shall fall, And, together, shall, all of them, vanish!
4 Car ainsi m’a parlé Yahweh: comme le lion rugit, ainsi que le jeune lion, sur sa proie, alors que se rassemble contre lui la multitude des bergers, sans se laisser effrayer par leurs cris, ni troubler par leur nombre: ainsi Yahweh des armées descendra pour combattre, sur la montagne de Sion et sur sa colline.
For Thus, hath Yahweh said unto me—Like as a lion or a young lion growleth over his prey. Who—though there be called out against him a multitude of shepherds—Will not at their voice, be dismayed, Nor, at their noise, be daunted, So, will Yahweh of hosts come down, to make war over Mount Zion, and over the hill thereof.
5 Comme des oiseaux déployant leurs ailes sur leur couvée, ainsi Yahweh des armées couvrira Jérusalem; il couvrira, il sauvera, il passera, il délivrera.
As little mother-birds hovering, so, will Yahweh of hosts throw a covering over Jerusalem, —Covering, so will he rescue, Passing over, so will he deliver!
6 Revenez donc à celui dont vous vous êtes tant éloignés, enfants d’Israël.
Return ye unto him against whom the sons of Israel have deeply revolted,
7 Car en ce jour-là chacun rejettera ses idoles d’argent et ses idoles d’or, que vous avez fabriquées de vos mains pour pécher.
For in that day, will every man reject his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, —Which your hands had made for you as a sin!
8 Et Assur tombera par une épée qui n’est pas de l’homme; une épée qui n’est pas d’un mortel le dévorera; il fuiera devant l’épée, et ses jeunes gens seront assujettis au tribut.
Then shall the Assyrian fall, by the sword, not of a great man, And the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him, —Howbeit he shall take his flight from the face of a sword, And his young men, shall come under tribute;
9 Son rocher fuira d’épouvante, et ses princes tremblants déserteront l’étendard. — oracle de Yahweh, qui a son feu dans Sion, et sa fournaise dans Jérusalem.
And his own Cliff, through terror, shall he pass by, And his princes shall be dismayed at an ensign, —Declareth Yahweh. Who hath a flame in Zion, And hath a furnace in Jerusalem.
