Isaïe 30

1 Malheur aux enfants rebelles, — oracle de Yahweh, qui font des projets, mais sans moi; qui contractent des pactes, mais sans mon esprit, accumulant péché sur péché.

Woe to you, apostate children, saith the Lord, that you would take counsel, and not of me: and would begin a web, and not by my spirit, that you might add sin upon sin:

2 Ils descendent sur le chemin de l’Égypte, sans avoir consulté ma bouche, pour se réfugier sous la protection de Pharaon et pour s’abriter à l’ombre de l’Égypte!

Who walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth, hoping for help in the strength of Pharao, and trusting in the shadow of Egypt.

3 La protection de Pharaon sera pour vous une honte; et le refuge à l’ombre de l’Égypte, une confusion.

And the strength of Pharao shall be to your confusion, and the confidence of the shadow of Egypt to your shame.

4 Déjà les princes de Juda sont à Tanis, et ses envoyés se sont avancés jusqu’à Hanés;

For thy princes were in Tanis, and thy messengers came even to Hanes.

5 tous sont confus à cause d’un peuple qui ne leur sert de rien, qui ne leur donne ni aide ni secours, mais seulement confusion et ignominie. —

They were all confounded at a people that could not profit them: they were no help, nor to any profit, but to confusion and to reproach.

6 Oracle des bêtes du négéb: A travers une contrée de détresse et d’angoisse, d’où sortent le lion et la lionne, la vipère et le dragon volant, ils portent leurs richesses sur le dos des ânes, et leurs trésors sur la bosse des chameaux, à un peuple qui ne sert à rien.

The burden of the beasts of the south. In a land of trouble and distress, from whence come the lioness, and the lion, the viper and the flying basilisk, they carry their riches upon the shoulders of beasts, and their treasures upon the bunches of camels to a people that shall not be able to profit them.

7 Le secours de l’Égypte sera vanité et néant, c’est pourquoi je la nomme: « La superbe qui reste assise. »

For Egypt shall help in vain, and to no purpose: therefore have I cried concerning this: It is pride only, sit still.

8 Va maintenant, grave cela sur une tablette en leur présence, et écris-le dans un livre, afin que ce soit, pour les jours à venir, un témoignage à perpétuité.

Now therefore go in and write for them upon box, and note it diligently in a book, and it shall be in the latter days for a testimony for ever.

9 Car c’est un peuple de rébellion, ce sont des enfants infidèles, des enfants qui refusent d’écouter la loi de Yahweh.

For it is a people that provoketh to wrath, and lying children, children that will not hear the law of God.

10 Ils disent aux voyants: « Ne voyez point; » et aux prophètes: « Ne nous prophétisez pas la vérité; dites-nous des choses agréables, prophétisez des illusions!

Who say to the seers: See not: and to them that behold: Behold not for us those things that are right: speak unto us pleasant things, see errors for us.

11 Ecartez-vous de la voie, détournez-vous du chemin; ôtez de devant nos yeux le Saint d’Israël! » —

Take away from me the way, turn away the path from me, let the Holy One of Israel cease from before us.

12 C’est pourquoi ainsi parle le Saint d’Israël: Puisque vous méprisez cette parole et que vous vous confiez dans la violence et l’artifice, et que vous en faites votre appui,

Therefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel: Because you have rejected this word, and have trusted in oppression and tumult, and have leaned upon it:

13 à cause de cela, cette iniquité sera pour vous comme une lézarde qui menace ruine et fait saillie sur un mur élevé, dont soudain, en un instant, l’écroulement se produit.

Therefore shall this iniquity be to you as a breach that falleth, and is found wanting in a high wall, for the destruction thereof shall come on a sudden, when it is not looked for.

14 Il se brise comme se brise un vase d’argile, que l’on fracasse sans pitié, sans que l’on trouve dans ses débris un morceau, pour prendre du feu au brasier, ou puiser de l’eau à la citerne.

And it shall be broken small, as the potter’s vessel is broken all to pieces with mighty breaking, and there shall not a sherd be found of the pieces thereof, wherein a little fire may be carried from the hearth, or a, little water be drawn out of the pit.

15 Car ainsi a parlé le Seigneur Yahweh, le Saint d’Israël: Par la conversion et une paisible attente vous seriez sauvés; dans le repos et la confiance serait votre force. Mais vous ne l’avez pas voulu

For thus saith the Lord God the Holy One of Israel: If you return and be quiet, you shall be saved: in silence and in hope shall your strength be. And you would not:

16 et vous avez dit: « Non! Mais nous fuirons sur des chevaux! » — eh bien, vous fuirez — « Nous volerons sur des coursiers! » — eh bien, ceux qui vous poursuivront seront plus rapides!

But have said: No, but we will flee to horses: therefore shall you flee. And we will mount upon swift ones: therefore shall they be swifter that shall pursue after you.

17 Mille à la menace d’un seul, et à la menace de cinq, vous fuirez, jusqu’à ce que vous ne soyez plus qu’un reste, semblable à un mât sur le sommet de la montagne, à un signal sur la colline.

A thousand men shall flee for fear of one: and for fear of five shall you flee, till you be left as the mast of a ship on the top of a mountain, and as an ensign upon a hill.

18 C’est pourquoi Yahweh attend pour vous faire grâce, c’est pourquoi il se lèvera pour vous faire miséricorde; car Yahweh est un Dieu juste. Heureux tous ceux qui espèrent en lui!

Therefore the Lord waiteth that be may have mercy on you: and therefore shall he be exalted sparing you: because the Lord is the God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.

19 Car, ô peuple qui habite en Sion, à Jérusalem, tu ne pleureras désormais plus. A ton premier cri, il te fera grâce; dès qu’il t’aura entendu, il t’exaucera.

For the people of Sion shall dwell in Jerusalem: weeping thou shalt not weep, he will surely have pity on thee: at the voice of thy cry, as soon as he shell hear, he will answer thee.

20 Le Seigneur vous donnera le pain de l’angoisse et l’eau de la détresse; et ceux qui t’instruisent ne se cacheront plus et tes yeux verront ceux qui t’instruisent;

And the Lord will give you spare bread, and short water: and will not cause thy teacher to flee away from thee any more, and thy eyes shall see thy teacher.

21 et tes oreilles entendront derrière toi la voix qui dira: « Voici le chemin, suivez-le! » quand vous vous détournerez à droite ou à gauche.

And thy ears shall hear the word of one admonishing thee behind thy back: This is the way, walk ye in it: and go not aside neither to the right hand, nor to the left.

22 Vous traiterez comme impurs l’argent qui recouvre vos idoles, et l’or qui revêt vos statues; vous les rejetterez comme une chose souillée: « Hors d’ici! » leur direz-vous.

And thou shalt defile the plates of thy graven things of silver, and the garment of thy molten things of gold, and shalt cast them away as the uncleanness of a menstruous woman. Thou shalt say to it: Get thee hence.

23 Le Seigneur enverra ses ondées sur la semence que tu auras semée en terre, et le pain que donnera la terre sera délicieux et abondant; tes troupeaux en ce jour-là paîtront dans de vastes pâturages;

And rain shall be given to thy seed, wheresoever thou shalt sow in the land: and the bread of the corn of the land shall be most plentiful, and fat. The lamb in that day shall feed at large in thy possession:

24 et les bœufs et les ânes, qui travaillent la terre, mangeront un fourrage savoureux vanné avec la pelle et le van.

And thy oxen, and the ass colts that till the ground, shall eat mingled provender as it was winnowed in the floor.

25 Et sur toute haute montagne, et sur toute colline élevée, il y aura des ruisseaux, des courants d’eau, au jour du grand carnage quand les tours tomberont.

And there shall be upon every high mountain, and upon every elevated hill rivers of running waters in the day of the slaughter of many, when the tower shall fall.

26 La lumière de la lune sera comme la lumière du soleil, et la lumière du soleil sera sept fois plus grande, comme la lumière de sept jours, au jour où Yahweh bandera la blessure de son peuple, et guérira les plaies dont il l’avait frappé.

And the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days: in the day when the Lord shall bind up the wound of his people, and shall heal the stroke of their wound.

27 Voici que le nom de Yahweh vient de loin, sa colère brûle, et l’ardeur en est accablante; ses lèvres respirent la fureur, et sa langue est comme un feu dévorant.

Behold the name of the Lord cometh from afar, his wrath burneth, and is heavy to bear: his lips are filled with indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire.

28 Son souffle est comme un torrent débordé, qui monte jusqu’au cou, pour cribler les nations avec le crible de la destruction, et mettre un frein d’égarement aux mâchoires des peuples.

His breath as a torrent overflowing even to the midst of the neck, to destroy the nations unto nothing, and the bridle of error that was in the jaws of the people.

29 Alors vous entonnerez des cantiques comme dans la nuit où l’on célèbre la fête, et vous aurez le cœur joyeux, comme celui qui monte au son de la flûte, pour aller à la montagne de Yahweh, vers le rocher d’Israël.

You shall have a song as in the night of the sanctified solemnity, and joy of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe, to come into the mountain of the Lord, to the Mighty One of Israel.

30 Yahweh fera éclater la majesté de sa voix, et il fera voir son bras qui s’abaisse, dans l’ardeur de sa colère, et la flamme d’un feu dévorant, dans la tempête, l’averse et les pierres de grêle.

And the Lord shall make the glory of his voice to be heard, and shall shew the terror of his arm, in the threatening of wrath, and the dame of devouring fire: he shall crush to pieces with whirlwind, and hailstones.

31 Et Assur tremblera à la voix de Yahweh; il frappera de sa verge,

For at the voice of the Lord the Assyrian shall fear being struck with the rod.

32 et, à chaque fois que passera la verge fatale, que Yahweh abaissera sur lui, on fera retentir les tambourins et les harpes, et il combattra contre lui à coups redoublés.

And the passage of the rod shall be strongly grounded, which the Lord shall make to rest upon him with timbrels and harps, and in great battles he shall over throw them.

33 Car Topheth est dès longtemps préparé; lui aussi est prêt pour le roi; le Seigneur l’a fait large et profond; il y a sur son bûcher du feu et du bois en abondance; le souffle de Yahweh, comme un torrent de soufre, l’embrase.

For Topheth is prepared from yesterday, prepared by the king, deep, and wide. The nourishment thereof is fire and much wood: the breath of the Lord as a torrent of brimstone kindling it.
