Deutéronome 13

1 S’il s’élève au milieu de toi un prophète ou un songeur qui t’annonce un signe ou un prodige,

If there arise amog you a prophet or a dreamer of dreames, (and giue thee a signe or wonder,

2 et que s’accomplisse le signe ou le prodige dont il t’a parlé en disant: « Allons après d’autres dieux, — des dieux que tu ne connais pas! — et servons-les, »

And the signe and the wonder, which hee hath tolde thee, come to passe) saying, Let vs go after other gods, which thou hast not knowen, and let vs serue them,

3 tu n’écouteras pas les paroles de ce prophète ou de ce songeur; car Yahweh, votre Dieu, vous éprouve pour savoir si vous aimez Yahweh, votre Dieu, de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme.

Thou shalt not hearken vnto the wordes of the prophet, or vnto that dreamer of dreames: for the Lord your God prooueth you, to knowe whether ye loue the Lord your God with al your heart, and with all your soule.

4 C’est après Yahweh, votre Dieu, que vous irez, c’est lui que vous craindrez; vous observerez ses commandements, vous obéirez à sa voix, vous le servirez et vous vous attacherez à lui.

Yee shall walke after the Lord your God and feare him, and shall keepe his commandements, and hearken vnto his voyce, and yee shall serue him, and cleaue vnto him.

5 Et ce prophète ou ce songeur sera mis à mort, car il a prêché la révolte contre Yahweh, votre Dieu, qui vous a fait sortir du pays d’Égypte et vous a délivrés de la maison de servitude, pour te détourner de la voie dans laquelle Yahweh, ton Dieu, t’a ordonné de marcher. Tu ôteras ainsi le mal du milieu de toi.

But that prophet, or that dreamer of dreames, he shall be slaine, because hee hath spoken to turne you away from the Lord your God (which brought you out of the lande of Egypt, and deliuered you out of the house of bodage) to thrust thee out of the way, wherein the Lord thy God commanded thee to walke: so shalt thou take the euill away foorth of the middes of thee.

6 Si ton frère, fils de ta mère, ou ton fils, ou ta fille, ou la femme qui repose sur ton sein, ou ton ami qui est comme ta propre âme, t’incite en secret, en disant: « Allons, et servons d’autres dieux, » — des dieux que n’ont connus ni toi ni tes pères,

If thy brother, the sonne of thy mother, or thine owne sonne, or thy daughter, or the wife, that lyeth in thy bosome, or thy friend, which is as thine owne soule, intice thee secretly, saying, Let vs goe and serue other gods, (which thou hast not knowen, thou, I say, nor thy fathers)

7 d’entre les dieux des peuples qui vous entourent, près de toi ou loin de toi, d’un bout de la terre à l’autre, —

Any of the gods of the people which are round about you, neere vnto thee or farre off from thee, from the one ende of the earth vnto ye other:

8 tu ne lui céderas pas et tu ne l’écouteras pas; ton œil sera sans pitié pour lui, tu ne l’épargneras pas et tu ne le couvriras pas,

Thou shalt not cosent vnto him, nor heare him, neither shall thine eye pitie him, nor shewe mercie, nor keepe him secret:

9 mais tu le feras mourir; ta main se lèvera la première contre lui pour le mettre à mort, et la main de tout le peuple ensuite;

But thou shalt euen kill him: thine hand shall be first vpon him to put him to death, and then the handes of all the people.

10 tu l’accableras de pierres jusqu’à ce qu’il meure, parce qu’il a cherché à te détourner de Yahweh, ton Dieu, qui t’a fait sortir du pays d’Égypte, de la maison de servitude.

And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he dye (because he hath gone about to thrust thee away from the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of ye land of Egypt, from ye house of bondage)

11 Tout Israël l’apprendra et sera dans la crainte, afin que l’on ne commette plus une action aussi criminelle au milieu de toi.

That all Israel may heare and feare, and doe no more any such wickednesse as this among you.

12 Si tu entends dire de l’une des villes que Yahweh, ton Dieu, t’a données pour demeure:

If thou shalt heare say (concerning any of thy cities which the Lord thy God hath giuen thee to dwell in)

13 « Des gens pervers, sortis du milieu de toi, ont séduit les habitants de leur ville, en disant: “Allons et servons d’autres dieux”, — des dieux que vous ne connaissez pas! —

Wicked men are gone out from among you, and haue drawen away the inhabitants of their citie, saying, Let vs go and serue other gods, which ye haue not knowen,

14 tu feras une enquête, tu examineras, tu interrogeras avec soin. Si ce bruit est vrai et le fait établi, si cette abomination a été commise au milieu de toi,

Then thou shalt seeke, and make searche and enquire diligently: and if it be true, and the thing certaine, that such abomination is wrought among you,

15 alors, tu ne manqueras pas de passer au fil de l’épée les habitants de cette ville, la dévouant par anathème avec tout ce qu’elle contient, et tu passeras aussi son bétail au fil de l’épée.

Thou shalt euen slay the inhabitants of that citie with the edge of the sworde: destroy it vtterly, and all that is therein, and the cattel thereof with the edge of the sworde.

16 Tu amasseras tout son butin au milieu de la place, et tu brûleras entièrement au feu la ville avec tout son butin, pour Yahweh, ton Dieu; elle sera pour toujours un monceau de ruines, elle ne sera plus rebâtie.

And thou shalt gather all the spoyle of it into the middes of the streete thereof, and burne with fire the citie and all the spoyle thereof euery whit, vnto the Lord thy God: and it shall be an heape for euer: it shall not be built againe.

17 Rien de ce qui aura été dévoué par anathème ne s’attachera à ta main, afin que Yahweh revienne de l’ardeur de sa colère, qu’il te fasse grâce et miséricorde, et qu’il te multiplie, comme il l’a juré à tes pères,

And there shall cleaue nothing of ye damned thing to thine hand, that the Lord may turne from the fiercenes of his wrath, and shewe thee mercie, and haue compassion on thee and multiplie thee, as he hath sworne vnto thy fathers:

18 si tu obéis à la voix de Yahweh, ton Dieu, en observant tous ses commandements que je te prescris aujourd’hui, et en faisant ce qui est droit aux yeux de Yahweh, ton Dieu.

When thou shalt obey the voyce of the Lord thy God, and keepe all his commandements which I command thee this day, that thou do that which is right in the eyes of the Lord thy God.
