2 Samuel 3
1 La guerre fut longue entre la maison de Saül et la maison de David. David allait se fortifiant, et la maison de Saül allait s’affaiblissant.
Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: but David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.
2 Il naquit à David des fils à Hébron. Son premier-né fut Ammon, d’Achinoam de Jezraël;
And unto David were sons born in Hebron: and his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess;
3 le second Chéléab, d’Abigaïl de Carmel, femme de Nabal; le troisième Absalom, fils de Maaca, fille de Tholmaï, roi de Gessur;
And his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;
4 le quatrième Adonias, fils de Haggith; le cinquième Saphathia, fils d’Abital,
And the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;
5 et le sixième Jéthraam, d’Egla, femme de David. Tels sont les fils qui naquirent à David à Hébron.
And the sixth, Ithream, by Eglah David's wife. These were born to David in Hebron.
6 Pendant qu’il y avait guerre entre la maison de Saül et la maison de David, Abner se fortifiait dans la maison de Saül.
And it came to pass, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner made himself strong for the house of Saul.
7 Or Saül avait eu une concubine, nommée Respha, fille d’Aia. Et Isboseth dit à Abner:
And Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah: and Ishbosheth said to Abner, Wherefore have you gone in unto my father's concubine?
8 « Pourquoi es-tu venu vers la concubine de mon père? » Abner, très irrité des paroles d’Isboseth, répondit: « Suis-je une tête de chien appartenant à Juda? Aujourd’hui je montre de la faveur à la maison de Saül, ton père, à ses frères et à ses amis, et je ne t’ai pas livré aux mains de David, et c’est aujourd’hui que tu me reproches une faute avec cette femme?
Then was Abner very angry for the words of Ishbosheth, and said, Am I a dog's head, which against Judah do show kindness this day unto the house of Saul your father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered you into the hand of David, that you charge me to day with a fault concerning this woman?
9 Que Dieu traite Abner dans toute sa rigueur, si je n’agis pas avec David selon ce que Yahweh lui a juré,
So do God to Abner, and more also, except, as the LORD has sworn to David, even so I do to him;
10 en disant qu’il enlèverait la royauté de la maison de Saül, et qu’il établirait le trône de David sur Israël et sur Juda, depuis Dan jusqu’à Bersabée! »
To translate the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beersheba.
11 Isboseth ne put répondre un seul mot à Abner, parce qu’il le craignait.
And he could not answer Abner a word again, because he feared him.
12 Abner envoya des messagers à David pour lui dire de sa part: « A qui est le pays? Fais ton alliance avec moi, et voici que ma main t’aidera pour tourner vers toi tout Israël. »
And Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, Whose is the land? saying also, Make your league with me, and, behold, my hand shall be with you, to bring about all Israel unto you.
13 Il répondit: « Bien! je ferai alliance avec toi; mais je te demande une chose, c’est que tu ne voies pas ma face sans m’amener Michol, fille de Saül, lorsque tu viendras pour voir ma face. »
And he said, Well; I will make a league with you: but one thing I require of you, that is, You shall not see my face, except you first bring Michal Saul's daughter, when you come to see my face.
14 Et David envoya des messagers à Isboseth, fils de Saül, pour lui dire: « Donne-moi ma femme Michol, que j’ai épousée pour cent prépuces de Philistins. »
And David sent messengers to Ishbosheth Saul's son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, which I espoused to me for an hundred foreskins of the Philistines.
15 Isboseth l’envoya prendre à son mari Phaltiel, fils de Laïs;
And Ishbosheth sent, and took her from her husband, even from Phaltiel the son of Laish.
16 et son mari l’accompagna, marchant et pleurant derrière elle, jusqu’à Bathurim. Là Abner lui dit: « Va, retourne chez toi. » Et il s’en retourna.
And her husband went with her along weeping behind her to Bahurim. Then said Abner unto him, Go, return. And he returned.
17 Abner eut des pourparlers avec les anciens d’Israël, et leur dit: « Vous désiriez depuis longtemps déjà avoir David pour roi;
And Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, All of you sought for David in times past to be king over you:
18 agissez donc maintenant, car Yahweh a dit à David: C’est par la main de David, mon serviteur, que je délivrerai mon peuple d’Israël de la main des Philistins et de la main de tous ses ennemis. »
Now then do it: for the LORD has spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.
19 Abner parla aussi aux oreilles de Benjamin, et Abner alla reporter aux oreilles de David, à Hébron, ce qui paraissait bon aux yeux d’Israël et aux yeux de toute la maison de Benjamin.
And Abner also spoke in the ears of Benjamin: and Abner went also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and that seemed good to the whole house of Benjamin.
20 Abner vint près de David, à Hébron, accompagné de vingt hommes; et David fit un festin à Abner et aux hommes qui l’accompagnaient.
So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. And David made Abner and the men that were with him a feast.
21 Et Abner dit à David: « Je vais me lever et partir pour rassembler tout Israël vers mon seigneur le roi; ils feront alliance avec toi et tu régneras sur tout ce que ton âme désire. » Et David congédia Abner, qui s’en alla en paix.
And Abner said unto David, I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel unto my lord the king, that they may make a league with you, and that you may reign over all that your heart desires. And David sent Abner away; and he went in peace.
22 Mais voici que les serviteurs de David et Joab revenaient d’une excursion, ramenant avec eux un grand butin. — Abner n’était plus auprès de David à Hébron, car David l’avait congédié et il s’en était allé en paix. —
And, behold, the servants of David and Joab came from pursuing a troop, and brought in a great spoil with them: but Abner was not with David in Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace.
23 Joab et toute la troupe qui était avec lui arrivèrent, et on fit ce rapport à Joab: « Abner, fils de Ner, est venu auprès du roi, qui l’a congédié, et il s’en est allé en paix. »
When Joab and all the host that was with him were come, they told Joab, saying, Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he has sent him away, and he is gone in peace.
24 Joab se rendit chez le roi et dit: « Qu’as-tu fait? Voilà qu’Abner est venu vers toi: pourquoi l’as-tu congédié et laissé partir?
Then Joab came to the king, and said, What have you done? behold, Abner came unto you; why is it that you have sent him away, and he is quite gone?
25 Tu connais Abner, fils de Ner: c’est pour te tromper qu’il est venu, pour épier ta conduite, et savoir tout ce que tu fais. »
You know Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive you, and to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all that you do.
26 Joab, ayant quitté David, envoya sur les traces d’Abner des messagers qui le ramenèrent depuis la citerne de Sira, sans que David en sût rien.
And when Joab was come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, which brought him again from the well of Sirah: but David knew it not.
27 Quand Abner fut de retour à Hébron, Joab le tira à l’écart, dans l’intérieur de la porte, comme pour lui parler tranquillement, et là il le frappa au ventre; il mourut, à cause du sang d’Asaël, frère de Joab.
And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and stroke him there under the fifth rib, that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.
28 David l’apprit ensuite, et il dit: « Je suis à jamais, moi et mon royaume, innocent, devant Yahweh, du sang d’Abner, fils de Ner.
And afterward when David heard it, he said, I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD for ever from the blood of Abner the son of Ner:
29 Que ce sang retombe sur la tête de Joab et sur toute la maison de son père! Qu’il y ait toujours dans la maison de Joab un homme qui souffre d’un flux ou de la lèpre, ou qui tienne le fuseau, ou qui tombe par l’épée, ou qui manque de pain. »
Let it rest on the head of Joab, and on all his father's house; and let there not fail from the house of Joab one that has an issue, or that is a leper, or that leans on a staff, or that falls on the sword, or that lacks bread.
30 C’est ainsi que Joab et Abisaï, son frère, tuèrent Abner, parce qu’il avait donné la mort à leur frère Asaël, à Gabaon, dans la bataille.
So Joab, and Abishai his brother slew Abner, because he had slain their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.
31 David dit à Joab et à tout le peuple qui était avec lui: « Déchirez-vos vêtements, ceignez-vous de sacs et faites le deuil devant Abner. » Et le roi David marchait derrière la litière.
And David said to Joab, and to all the people that were with him, Rend your clothes, and gird you with sackcloth, and mourn before Abner. And king David himself followed the bier.
32 On enterra Abner à Hébron. Le roi pleura à haute voix sur le tombeau d’Abner et tout le peuple pleura.
And they buried Abner in Hebron: and the king lifted up his voice, and wept at the grave of Abner; and all the people wept.
33 Le roi chanta un chant funèbre sur Abner, et dit: Abner devait-il mourir comme meurt un insensé?
And the king lamented over Abner, and said, Died Abner as a fool dies?
34 Tes mains ne furent pas liées et tes pieds ne furent pas jetés dans les chaînes! Tu es tombé comme on tombe devant des scélérats. Tout le peuple continua de se lamenter sur Abner;
Your hands were not bound, nor your feet put into fetters: as a man falls before wicked men, so fell you. And all the people wept again over him.
35 et tout le peuple s’approcha de David pour lui faire prendre de la nourriture lorsqu’il était encore jour. Mais David fit ce serment: « Que Yahweh me traite dans toute sa rigueur, si je goûte du pain ou quoi que ce soit avant le coucher du soleil! »
And when all the people came to cause David to eat food while it was yet day, David swore, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or ought else, till the sun be down.
36 Tout le peuple le remarqua et le trouva bon, comme il trouvait bon tout ce que faisait le roi.
And all the people took notice of it, and it pleased them: as whatsoever the king did pleased all the people.
37 Tout le peuple et tout Israël comprirent en ce jour que ce n’était pas de par le roi qu’on avait fait mourir Abner, fils de Ner.
For all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to slay Abner the son of Ner.
38 Le roi dit à ses serviteurs: « Ne savez-vous pas qu’un chef, qu’un grand homme est tombé aujourd’hui en Israël?
And the king said unto his servants, Know all of you not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel?
39 Pour moi, je suis doux, quoiqu’ayant reçu l’onction royale; et ces hommes, les fils de Sarvia, sont plus durs que moi. Que Yahweh rende à qui fait le mal selon le mal qu’il fait! »
And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard for me: the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.
