1 Alors le roi Salomon assembla près de lui à Jérusalem les anciens d’Israël et tous les chefs des tribus, les princes des familles des enfants d’Israël, pour transporter de la cité de David, c’est-à-dire de Sion, l’arche de l’alliance de Yahweh.
Then, did Solomon call together the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, chiefs of the fathers of the sons of Israel, unto King Solomon in Jerusalem, —that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, out of the city of David, the same is Zion.
2 Tous les hommes d’Israël se réunirent auprès du roi Salomon, au mois d’éthanim, qui est le septième mois, pendant la fête.
So all the men of Israel came together unto King Solomon, in the month of steady flowings, at the festival, —the same is the seventh month.
3 Lorsque tous les anciens d’Israël furent arrivés, les prêtres portèrent l’arche.
And all the elders of Israel came in, —and the priests took up the ark;
4 Ils transportèrent l’arche de Yahweh, ainsi que la tente de réunion et tous les ustensiles sacrés qui étaient dans la tente; ce furent les prêtres et les lévites qui les transportèrent.
and they brought up the ark of Yahweh, and the Tent of Meeting, and all the hallowed vessels that were in the tent, —yea, the priests and the Levites, did bring them up.
5 Le roi Salomon et toute l’assemblée d’Israël convoquée auprès de lui se tenaient avec lui devant l’arche. Ils immolèrent des brebis et des bœufs, qui ne pouvaient être ni comptés ni nombrés à cause de leur multitude.
And, King Solomon, and all the assembly of Israel who had assembled themselves unto him, were with him, before the ark, —sacrificing sheep and oxen, which could neither be recorded nor counted, for multitude.
6 Les prêtres portèrent l’arche de l’alliance de Yahweh à sa place, dans le sanctuaire de la maison, dans le Saint des saints, sous les ailes des Chérubins.
So the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of Yahweh into its place, into the shrine of the house, into the holy of holies, —under the wings of the cherubim.
7 Car les Chérubins étendaient leurs ailes sur la place de l’arche, et les Chérubins couvraient l’arche et ses barres par-dessus.
For, the cherubim, were spreading forth their two wings, over the place of the ark, —and the cherubim made a covering over the ark and over the staves thereof, above.
8 Les barres avaient une longueur telle que leurs extrémités se voyaient du lieu saint devant le sanctuaire, mais on ne les voyait pas du dehors. Elles ont été là jusqu’à ce jour.
And they drew out the staves, and the heads of the staves were seen from the holy place, in front of the shrine, although they were not seen on the outside, —and they have remained there until this day.
9 Il n’y avait dans l’arche que les deux tables de pierre, que Moïse y avait déposées sur le mont Horeb, lorsque Yahweh conclut une alliance avec les enfants d’Israël à leur sortie du pays d’Égypte.
There was nothing in the ark, save the two tables of stone, which Moses deposited there in Horeb, —the tables of the covenant which Yahweh solemnised with the sons of Israel, when they came forth out of the land of Egypt.
10 Au moment où les prêtres sortirent du lieu saint, la nuée remplit la maison de Yahweh.
And so it was, when the priests came forth out of the holy place, that, a cloud, filled the house of Yahweh;
11 Les prêtres ne purent pas y rester pour faire leur service, à cause de la nuée; car la gloire de Yahweh remplissait la maison de Yahweh.
so that the priests could not stand to minister, because of the cloud, —for, the glory of Yahweh, filled, the house of Yahweh.
12 Alors Salomon dit: « Yahweh veut habiter dans l’obscurité.
Then, said Solomon, —Yahweh, said, that he would make his habitation in thick gloom:
13 J’ai bâti une maison qui sera votre demeure, un lieu pour que vous y résidiez à jamais. »
I have, built, a house as a high abode for thee, —A settled place for thee to abide in, for ages.
14 Puis le roi tourna son visage et bénit toute l’assemblée d’Israël, et toute l’assemblée d’Israël était debout.
And the king turned about his face, and blessed all the convocation of Israel, —while all the convocation of Israel was standing;
15 Et il dit: « Béni soit Yahweh. Dieu d’Israël, qui a parlé par sa bouche à David, mon père, et qui a accompli par sa main ce qu’il avait déclaré en disant:
and he said—Blessed, be Yahweh, God of Israel, who spake with his mouth, unto David my father, —that which with his hand he hath fulfilled, saying: —
16 Depuis le jour où j’ai fait sortir d’Égypte mon peuple d’Israël, je n’ai pas choisi de ville, parmi toutes les tribus d’Israël, pour qu’on y bâtisse une maison où réside mon nom, mais j’ai choisi David pour qu’il règne sur mon peuple d’Israël.
Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel, out of Egypt, I had chosen no city, out of all the tribes of Israel, for building a house, where my Name might be, —but I have chosen Jerusalem, that my Name should be there, and I have chosen David, to be over my people Israel:
17 David, mon père, avait l’intention de bâtir une maison au nom de Yahweh, Dieu d’Israël;
And so it came to pass, that it was near the heart of David my father, —to build a house for the Name of Yahweh, God of Israel.
18 mais Yahweh dit à David, mon père: Puisque tu as eu l’intention de bâtir une maison à mon nom, tu as bien fait d’avoir eu cette intention.
Then said Yahweh unto David my father, Because it was near thy heart to build a house for my Name, thou didst well that it was near thy heart;
19 Seulement, ce ne sera pas toi qui bâtiras la maison; ce sera ton fils, sorti de tes entrailles, qui bâtira la maison à mon nom.
Only, thou thyself, must not build the house, —but, thine own son who hath proceeded out of thy loins, he, shall build the house, for my Name.
20 Yahweh a accompli la parole qu’il avait prononcée: je me suis élevé à la place de David, mon père, et je me suis assis sur le trône d’Israël, comme Yahweh l’avait dit, et j’ai bâti la maison au nom de Yahweh, Dieu d’Israël.
So then Yahweh hath established his word which he spake, —and I have been raised up in the room of David my father, and have taken my seat upon the throne of Israel, as spake Yahweh, and have built the house for the Name of Yahweh, God of Israel;
21 J’y ai établi un lieu pour l’arche où se trouve l’alliance de Yahweh, alliance qu’il a conclue avec nos pères quand il les a fait sortir du pays d’Égypte. »
and have appointed there a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of Yahweh, —which he solemnised with our fathers, when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt.
22 Salomon se plaça devant l’autel de Yahweh, en face de toute l’assemblée d’Israël, et, étendant ses mains vers le ciel,
And Solomon stood before the altar of Yahweh, in the presence of all the convocation of Israel, —and spread forth his hands towards the heavens;
23 il dit: « Yahweh, Dieu d’Israël, il n’y a pas de Dieu semblable à vous, ni en haut dans les cieux, ni en bas sur la terre: à vous, qui gardez l’alliance et la miséricorde envers vos serviteurs qui marchent de tout leur cœur en votre présence;
and said—O Yahweh, God of Israel! Not like thee, is there a God, in the heavens above, or upon the earth beneath, —keeping Covenant and Lovingkindness for thy servants who are walking before thee, with all their heart;
24 comme vous avez gardé à votre serviteur David, mon père, ce que vous lui avez dit; ce que vous avez déclaré par votre bouche, vous l’avez accompli par votre main, comme on le voit en ce jour.
who hast kept for thy servant David my father, that which thou didst promise him, —in that thou didst promise with thy mouth, and, with thy hand, hast fulfilled, as it is this day.
25 Maintenant, Yahweh, Dieu d’Israël, observez en faveur de votre serviteur David, mon père, ce que vous lui avez dit en ces termes: “Il ne te manquera jamais devant moi un descendant qui siège sur le trône d’Israël, pourvu que tes fils prennent garde à leur voie, en marchant devant moi comme tu as marché devant moi.”
Now, therefore, O Yahweh, God of Israel, keep thou for thy servant David my father, that which thou didst promise him, saying, There shall not be cut off to thee a man from before me, to sit upon the throne of Israel, —if only, thy sons take heed to their way, by walking before me, as thou hast walked before me.
26 Et maintenant, Dieu d’Israël, qu’elle s’accomplisse donc la parole que vous avez dite à votre serviteur David, mon père!
Now, therefore, O God of Israel, —verified be thy word, I pray thee, which thou didst speak to thy servant, David my father.
27 « Mais est-il vrai que Dieu habite sur la terre? Voici que le ciel et le ciel des cieux ne peuvent vous contenir: combien moins cette maison que j’ai bâtie!
But, in very deed, will God dwell, upon the earth? Lo! the heaven, yea the heaven of heavens, cannot contain thee, how much less this house which I have built?
28 Cependant soyez attentif, Yahweh, mon Dieu, à la prière de votre serviteur et à sa supplication, en écoutant le cri joyeux et la prière que votre serviteur prononce devant vous aujourd’hui,
Yet wilt thou turn unto the prayer of thy servant, and unto his supplication, O Yahweh my God, —to hearken unto the cry, and unto the prayer, wherewith thy servant doth pray before thee to-day;
29 en tenant vos yeux ouverts nuit et jour sur cette maison, sur le lieu dont vous avez dit: Là sera mon nom, en écoutant la prière que votre serviteur fait en ce lieu.
that thine eye may be opened toward this house, night and day, toward the place of which thou hast said, My Name shall be, there; hearkening unto the prayer which thy servant shall offer toward this place.
30 Ecoutez la supplication de votre serviteur et de votre peuple d’Israël, lorsqu’ils prieront en ce lieu; écoutez du lieu de votre demeure, du ciel, écoutez et pardonnez.
Wilt, thou, therefore, hearken unto the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, whensoever they shall pray toward this place, —yea wilt, thou thyself, hear, in thine own dwelling-place, in the heavens, and, when thou hearest, then wilt thou forgive?
31 « Si quelqu’un pèche contre son prochain et qu’on lui fasse prêter un serment, s’il vient jurer devant votre autel, dans cette maison,
When a man shall sin against his neighbour, and there shall be taken up against him an oath, to put him on oath, —and he shall come in and swear before thine altar, in this house,
32 écoutez-le du ciel, agissez, et jugez vos serviteurs, condamnant le coupable et faisant retomber sa conduite sur sa tête, déclarant juste l’innocent et lui rendant selon son innocence.
then wilt, thou thyself, hear in the heavens, and act, and judge thy servants, condemning the lawless, by setting his way upon his own head, —and justifying the righteous, by giving to him, according to his righteousness?
33 « Quand votre peuple d’Israël sera battu devant l’ennemi parce qu’il aura péché contre vous, s’ils reviennent à vous et rendent gloire à votre nom, s’ils vous adressent des prières et des supplications dans cette maison,
When thy people Israel are smitten before an enemy, because they have been sinning against thee, —and they turn again unto thee, and confess thy Name, and pray and make supplication unto thee, in this house,
34 écoutez-les du ciel, pardonnez le péché de votre peuple d’Israël, et ramenez-les dans le pays que vous avez donné à leurs pères.
then wilt, thou thyself, hear in the heavens, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them back unto the soil, which thou gavest unto their fathers?
35 « Quand le ciel sera fermé et qu’il n’y aura pas de pluie parce qu’ils auront péché contre vous, s’ils prient dans ce lieu et rendent gloire à votre nom, et s’ils se détournent de leurs péchés, parce que vous les aurez affligés,
When the heavens are shut up, and there is no rain, because they have been sinning against thee, —and they shall pray toward this place, and confess thy Name, and, from their sin, shall return, because thou hast been afflicting them,
36 écoutez-les du ciel, pardonnez les péchés de vos serviteurs et de votre peuple d’Israël, en leur enseignant la bonne voie dans laquelle ils doivent marcher, et faites tomber la pluie sur la terre que vous avez donnée en héritage à votre peuple.
then wilt, thou thyself, hear in the heavens and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou mayest teach them the good way, wherein they should walk, —and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people, for an inheritance?
37 « Quand la famine sera dans le pays, quand il y aura la peste, quand il y aura la rouille, la nielle, la sauterelle, le hasil; quand l’ennemi assiégera votre peuple dans le pays, dans ses portes; quand il y aura fléau ou maladie quelconques,
When there shall be, famine, in the land, when there shall be, pestilence, when there shall be, blasting, mildew locust, caterpillar, when their enemy shall besiege them in one of their own gates, —whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness;
38 si un homme, si tout votre peuple d’Israël fait entendre des prières et des supplications, et que chacun, reconnaissant la plaie de son cœur, étende ses mains vers cette maison,
any prayer, any supplication which, any son of earth, may have, of all thy people Israel, —who will certainly know every man the plague of his own heart, and so he shall spread abroad his hands towards this house,
39 écoutez-les du ciel, du lieu de votre demeure, et pardonnez; agissez et rendez à chacun selon toutes ses voies, vous qui connaissez son cœur, — car seul vous connaissez les cœurs de tous les enfants des hommes, —
then wilt, thou thyself, hear in the heavens, in the settled place of thine abode, and forgive and act, and give unto every man according to all his ways, whose heart thou wilt know, —for, thou thyself alone, knowest the heart of all the sons of men;
40 afin qu’ils vous craignent tous les jours qu’ils vivront sur la face du pays que vous avez donné à nos pères.
to the end they may revere thee, all the days which they do live, upon the face of the soil, —which thou gavest unto our fathers?
41 « Quant à l’étranger, qui n’est pas de votre peuple d’Israël, mais qui viendra d’un pays lointain à cause de votre nom,
Moreover also, unto the stranger, who is, not of thy people Israel, —but hath come in out of a far country, for the sake of thy Name, —
42 — car on entendra parler de votre grand nom, de votre main forte et de votre bras étendu, — quand il viendra prier dans cette maison,
(for they will certainly hear of thy great Name, and of thy strong hand, and of thy stretched-out arm, —and so will come in and pray towards this house),
43 écoutez-le du ciel, du lieu de votre demeure, et agissez selon tout ce que vous demandera l’étranger, afin que tous les peuples de la terre connaissent votre nom, pour vous craindre, comme votre peuple d’Israël, et qu’ils sachent que votre nom est appelé sur cette maison que j’ai bâtie.
wilt, thou thyself, hear in the heavens, the settled place of thine abode, and act, according to all for which, the stranger, shall cry unto thee, —to the end that all the peoples of the earth may truly know thy Name, so as to revere thee, like thy people Israel, and to know that, thine own Name, hath been given unto this house, which I have built?
44 « Quand votre peuple sortira pour combattre son ennemi, en suivant la voie dans laquelle vous les aurez envoyés, et qu’ils adresseront des prières à Yahweh, le visage tourné vers la ville que vous avez choisie et vers la maison que j’ai bâtie à votre nom,
When thy people go forth to war against their enemy, whithersoever thou mayest send them, —and shall pray unto Yahweh, in the direction of the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy Name,
45 écoutez du ciel leur prière et leur supplication, et rendez-leur justice.
then wilt thou hear, in the heavens, their prayer and their supplication, —and maintain their cause?
46 « Quand ils pécheront contre vous, — car il n’y a pas d’homme qui ne pèche, — et quand, irrité contre eux, vous les livrerez à l’ennemi, et que leur vainqueur les emmènera captifs au pays de l’ennemi, lointain ou rapproché,
When they sin against thee—for there is, no son of earth, that sinneth not, and thou shalt be angry with them, and deliver them up before an enemy, —who shall carry them away as their captives, into the land of the enemy, far or near;
47 s’ils rentrent en eux-mêmes dans le pays de leurs vainqueurs, s’ils se convertissent et vous adressent des supplications dans le pays de leurs tyrans, en disant: Nous avons péché, nous avons fait l’iniquité, nous avons commis le crime;
and they come back to their right mind, in the land whither they have been taken captive, —and so turn and make supplication unto thee, in the land of their captors, saying, We have sinned and done perversely, we have been lawless;
48 s’ils reviennent à vous de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme, dans le pays de leurs ennemis qui les ont emmenés captifs, s’ils vous adressent des prières, le visage tourné vers leur pays que vous avez donné à leurs pères, vers la ville que vous avez choisie et vers la maison que j’ai bâtie à votre nom,
and so they turn unto thee with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their enemies, who have carried them away captive, —and pray unto thee in the direction of their own land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy Name,
49 écoutez, du ciel, du lieu de votre demeure, leur prière et leur supplication, et faites-leur droit;
then wilt thou hearken in the heavens, the settled place of thine abode, unto their prayer, and unto their supplication, —and maintain their cause;
50 pardonnez à votre peuple ses transgressions et tous ses péchés qu’il a commis contre vous; faites-en un sujet de compassion devant leurs tyrans, afin qu’ils aient pitié d’eux;
and grant forgiveness to thy people, who have sinned against thee, even as to all their transgressions wherein they have transgressed against thee, —and grant them compassion before their captors, so that they may have compassion upon them;
51 car ils sont votre peuple et votre héritage, que vous avez fait sortir d’Égypte, du milieu d’une fournaise de fer:
because, thy people and thine inheritance, they are, —whom thou didst bring forth out of Egypt, out of the midst of the smelting-pot of iron;
52 afin que vos yeux soient ouverts à la supplication de votre serviteur et à la supplication de votre peuple d’Israël, pour les écouter en tout ce qu’ils vous demanderont.
that thine eyes may be open unto the supplication of thy servant, and unto the supplication of thy people Israel, —to hearken unto them, in all their crying unto thee;
53 Car vous les avez séparés de tous les peuples de la terre pour vous, pour en faire votre héritage, comme vous l’avez déclaré par Moïse, votre serviteur, quand vous avez fait sortir nos pères d’Égypte, ô Seigneur Yahweh. »
because, thou thyself, didst separate them unto thee, for an inheritance, out of all the peoples of the earth, —as thou spakest by the hand of Moses thy servant, when thou broughtest forth our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord Yahweh.
54 Lorsque Salomon eut achevé d’adresser à Yahweh toute cette prière et cette supplication, il se leva de devant l’autel de Yahweh, où il était à genoux, les mains étendues vers le ciel.
And it came to pass, when Solomon had made an end of praying unto Yahweh all this prayer and supplication, that he arose from before the altar of Yahweh, from kneeling on his knees, with his hands outspread to the heavens;
55 S’étant levé, il bénit toute l’assemblée d’Israël à haute voix en disant:
and stood and blessed all the convocation of Israel, —with a loud voice, saying:
56 « Béni soit Yahweh qui a donné du repos à son peuple d’Israël, selon tout ce qu’il a dit! De toutes les bonnes paroles qu’il a fait entendre par l’organe de Moïse, son serviteur, aucune parole n’est restée sans effet.
Blessed, be Yahweh, who hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised, —there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.
57 Que Yahweh, notre Dieu, soit avec nous, comme il a été avec nos pères; qu’il ne nous abandonne pas et ne nous délaisse point,
Yahweh our God be with us, as he was with our fathers, —let him not leave us, nor forsake us;
58 mais qu’il incline nos cœurs vers lui, afin que nous marchions dans toutes ses voies, et que nous observions ses commandements, ses lois et ses ordonnances, qu’il a prescrits à nos pères.
but bow our heart unto himself, —to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his regulations, which he commanded our fathers.
59 Que mes paroles de supplication que j’ai prononcées devant Yahweh soient proches de Yahweh, notre Dieu, nuit et jour, pour que, selon le besoin de chaque jour, il fasse droit à son serviteur et à son peuple d’Israël,
And let these my words, wherewith I have made supplication before Yahweh, be near unto Yahweh our God, day and night, —that he may maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel, as any need ariseth:
60 afin que tous les peuples de la terre sachent que Yahweh est Dieu, qu’il n’y en a pas d’autre.
To the end that all the peoples of the earth may know, that, Yahweh, is God, —there is none else.
61 Que votre cœur soit tout à Yahweh, notre Dieu, pour marcher selon ses lois et pour observer ses commandements, comme nous le faisons aujourd’hui. »
So shall your heart be sound with Yahweh our God, —to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.
62 Le roi et tout Israël avec lui offrirent des sacrifices devant Yahweh.
And, the king, and all Israel with him, were offering sacrifice before Yahweh.
63 Salomon immola vingt-deux mille bœufs et cent vingt mille brebis pour le sacrifice pacifique qu’il offrit à Yahweh. C’est ainsi que le roi et tous les enfants d’Israël firent la dédicace de la maison de Yahweh.
So Solomon offered as a sacrifice of peace-offerings, which he offered unto Yahweh—Oxen, two and twenty thousand, and Sheep, a hundred and twenty thousand, —Thus did, the king and all the sons of Israel, dedicate the house of Yahweh.
64 En ce jour, le roi consacra le milieu du parvis qui est devant la maison de Yahweh; car il offrit là les holocaustes, les oblations et les graisses des sacrifices pacifiques, parce que l’autel d’airain qui est devant Yahweh était trop petit pour contenir les holocaustes, les oblations et les graisses des sacrifices pacifiques.
On that day, did the king hallow the middle of the court, that was before the house of Yahweh, —for he offered there the ascending-sacrifice, and the meal-offering, and the fat portions of the peace-offerings, because, the altar of bronze that was before Yahweh, was too small to receive the ascending-sacrifice and the meal-offering, and the fat portions of the peace-offerings.
65 Salomon célébra la fête en ce temps-là, et tout Israël avec lui, grande multitude venue depuis l’entrée d’Emath jusqu’au torrent d’Égypte, — devant Yahweh, notre Dieu, — pendant sept jours et sept autres jours, soit quatorze jours.
And Solomon made, at that time, a festival—and all Israel with him—a great convocation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the ravine of Egypt, before Yahweh our God, seven days, and seven days, —fourteen days.
66 Le huitième jour il renvoya le peuple. Et ils bénirent le roi, et s’en allèrent dans leurs demeures, joyeux et le cœur content pour tout le bien que Yahweh avait fait à David, son serviteur, et à Israël, son peuple.
And on the eighth day, he sent the people away, and they blessed the king, —and departed to their homes, rejoicing and glad of heart, over all the goodness which Yahweh had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people.
