1 mais Jésus s'est rendu sur le mont des Oliviers.
And at dawn he came again to the temple,
2 Or, de grand matin, il entra de nouveau dans le temple, et tout le peuple vint à lui. Il s'assit et les enseigna.
and all the people were coming unto him, and having sat down, he was teaching them;
3 Les scribes et les pharisiens amenèrent une femme surprise en adultère. L'ayant placée au milieu,
and the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman having been taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst,
4 ils lui dirent: Maître, nous avons trouvé cette femme adultère, en flagrant délit.
they say to him, 'Teacher, this woman was taken in the very crime — committing adultery,
5 Or, dans notre loi, Moïse nous a ordonné de lapider de telles femmes. Que dis-tu donc d'elle? »
and in the law, Moses did command us that such be stoned; thou, therefore, what dost thou say?'
6 Ils dirent cela pour l'éprouver, afin d'avoir quelque chose à lui reprocher. Mais Jésus se baissa et écrivit sur la terre avec son doigt.
and this they said, trying him, that they might have to accuse him. And Jesus, having stooped down, with the finger he was writing on the ground,
7 Comme ils continuaient à l'interroger, il leva les yeux et leur dit: « Que celui d'entre vous qui est sans péché lui jette la première pierre. »
and when they continued asking him, having bent himself back, he said unto them, 'The sinless of you — let him first cast the stone at her;'
8 De nouveau, il se baissa et écrivit sur la terre avec son doigt.
and again having stooped down, he was writing on the ground,
9 Ceux-ci, après avoir entendu cela, convaincus par leur conscience, sortirent un par un, depuis le plus âgé jusqu'au dernier. Jésus resta seul avec la femme, là où elle était, au milieu.
and they having heard, and by the conscience being convicted, were going forth one by one, having begun from the elders — unto the last; and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 Jésus, s'étant levé, la vit et dit: « Femme, où sont tes accusateurs? Personne ne t'a condamnée? »
And Jesus having bent himself back, and having seen no one but the woman, said to her, 'Woman, where are those — thine accusers? did no one pass sentence upon thee?'
11 Elle a dit: « Personne, Seigneur. » Jésus a dit: « Je ne te condamne pas non plus. Va ton chemin. Désormais, ne pèche plus. »
and she said, 'No one, Sir;' and Jesus said to her, 'Neither do I pass sentence on thee; be going on, and no more sin.'
12 Jésus leur parla de nouveau, en disant: « Je suis la lumière du monde. Celui qui me suit ne marchera pas dans les ténèbres, mais il aura la lumière de la vie. »
Again, therefore, Jesus spake to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world; he who is following me shall not walk in the darkness, but he shall have the light of the life.'
13 Les pharisiens lui dirent donc: « Tu témoignes de toi-même. Ton témoignage n'est pas valable. »
The Pharisees, therefore, said to him, 'Thou of thyself dost testify, thy testimony is not true;'
14 Jésus leur répondit: « Même si je rends témoignage de moi-même, mon témoignage est vrai, car je sais d'où je viens et où je vais; mais vous, vous ne savez ni d'où je viens ni où je vais.
Jesus answered and said to them, 'And if I testify of myself — my testimony is true, because I have known whence I came, and whither I go, and ye — ye have not known whence I come, or whither I go.
15 Vous jugez selon la chair. Moi, je ne juge personne.
'Ye according to the flesh do judge; I do not judge any one,
16 Et quand bien même je jugerais, mon jugement est vrai, car je ne suis pas seul, mais je suis avec le Père qui m'a envoyé.
and even if I do judge my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me;
17 Il est aussi écrit dans votre loi que le témoignage de deux personnes est valable.
and also in your law it hath been written, that the testimony of two men are true;
18 Moi, je suis celui qui rend témoignage de moi-même, et le Père qui m'a envoyé rend témoignage de moi. »
I am [one] who is testifying of myself, and the Father who sent me doth testify of me.'
19 Ils lui dirent donc: « Où est ton Père? » Jésus répondit: « Vous ne connaissez ni moi ni mon Père. Si vous me connaissiez, vous connaîtriez aussi mon Père. »
They said, therefore, to him, 'Where is thy father?' Jesus answered, 'Ye have neither known me nor my Father: if me ye had known, my Father also ye had known.'
20 Jésus prononça ces paroles dans le trésor, comme il enseignait dans le temple. Et personne ne l'arrêta, parce que son heure n'était pas encore venue.
These sayings spake Jesus in the treasury, teaching in the temple, and no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come;
21 Jésus leur dit donc encore: « Je m'en vais, et vous me chercherez, et vous mourrez dans vos péchés. Là où je vais, vous ne pouvez pas venir. »
therefore said Jesus again to them, 'I go away, and ye will seek me, and in your sin ye shall die; whither I go away, ye are not able to come.'
22 Les Juifs dirent donc: « Se tuera-t-il, parce qu'il dit: « Où je vais, vous ne pouvez pas venir »? »
The Jews, therefore, said, 'Will he kill himself, because he saith, Whither I go away, ye are not able to come?'
23 Il leur dit: « Vous êtes d'en bas. Moi, je suis d'en haut. Vous êtes de ce monde. Je ne suis pas de ce monde.
and he said to them, 'Ye are from beneath, I am from above; ye are of this world, I am not of this world;
24 Je vous ai donc dit que vous mourrez dans vos péchés; car si vous ne croyez pas que je suis lui, vous mourrez dans vos péchés. »
I said, therefore, to you, that ye shall die in your sins, for if ye may not believe that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins.'
25 Ils lui dirent donc: « Qui es-tu? » Jésus leur dit: « Ce que je vous dis depuis le commencement.
They said, therefore, to him, 'Thou — who art thou?' and Jesus said to them, 'Even what I did speak of to you at the beginning;
26 J'ai beaucoup de choses à dire et à juger à votre sujet. Mais celui qui m'a envoyé est vrai; et ce que j'ai entendu de lui, je le dis au monde entier. »
many things I have to speak concerning you and to judge, but He who sent me is true, and I — what things I heard from Him — these I say to the world.'
27 Ils ne comprenaient pas qu'il leur parlait du Père.
They knew not that of the Father he spake to them;
28 Jésus leur dit donc: « Quand vous aurez élevé le Fils de l'homme, vous saurez que c'est moi, et je ne fais rien de moi-même; mais c'est comme mon Père me l'a enseigné que je dis ces choses.
Jesus, therefore, said to them, 'When ye may lift up the Son of Man then ye will know that I am [he]; and of myself I do nothing, but according as my Father did teach me, these things I speak;
29 Celui qui m'a envoyé est avec moi. Le Père ne m'a pas laissé seul, car je fais toujours ce qui lui est agréable. »
and He who sent me is with me; the Father did not leave me alone, because I, the things pleasing to Him, do always.'
30 Comme il parlait ainsi, beaucoup crurent en lui.
As he is speaking these things, many believed in him;
31 Jésus dit donc aux Juifs qui avaient cru en lui: « Si vous demeurez dans ma parole, vous êtes vraiment mes disciples.
Jesus, therefore, said unto the Jews who believed in him, 'If ye may remain in my word, truly my disciples ye are, and ye shall know the truth,
32 Vous connaîtrez la vérité, et la vérité vous rendra libres. »
and the truth shall make you free.'
33 Ils lui répondirent: « Nous sommes la descendance d'Abraham, et nous n'avons jamais été asservis à personne. Comment peux-tu dire: « Vous serez libérés »? »
They answered him, 'Seed of Abraham we are; and to no one have we been servants at any time; how dost thou say — Ye shall become free?'
34 Jésus leur répondit: Je vous le dis en vérité, quiconque commet un péché est esclave du péché.
Jesus answered them, 'Verily, verily, I say to you — Every one who is committing sin, is a servant of the sin,
and the servant doth not remain in the house — to the age, the son doth remain — to the age; (aiōn g165)
36 Si donc le Fils vous rend libres, vous serez vraiment libres.
if then the son may make you free, in reality ye shall be free.
37 Je sais que vous êtes la postérité d'Abraham, et pourtant vous cherchez à me tuer, parce que ma parole ne trouve pas de place en vous.
'I have known that ye are seed of Abraham, but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you;
38 Je dis les choses que j'ai vues avec mon Père; et vous aussi, vous faites les choses que vous avez vues avec votre père. »
I — that which I have seen with my Father do speak, and ye, therefore, that which ye have seen with your father — ye do.'
39 Ils lui répondirent: « Notre père est Abraham. » Jésus leur dit: « Si vous étiez les enfants d'Abraham, vous feriez les œuvres d'Abraham.
They answered and said to him, 'Our father is Abraham;' Jesus saith to them, 'If children of Abraham ye were, the works of Abraham ye were doing;
40 Mais maintenant vous cherchez à me tuer, moi qui vous ai dit la vérité que j'ai entendue de Dieu. Ce n'est pas Abraham qui a fait cela.
and now, ye seek to kill me — a man who hath spoken to you the truth I heard from God; this Abraham did not;
41 Vous faites les œuvres de votre père. » Ils lui dirent: « Nous ne sommes pas nés de l'immoralité sexuelle. Nous avons un seul Père, Dieu. »
ye do the works of your father.' They said, therefore, to him, 'We of whoredom have not been born; one Father we have — God;'
42 C'est pourquoi Jésus leur dit: « Si Dieu était votre père, vous m'aimeriez, car je suis sorti et je suis venu de Dieu. Car je ne suis pas venu de moi-même, mais c'est lui qui m'a envoyé.
Jesus then said to them, 'If God were your father, ye were loving me, for I came forth from God, and am come; for neither have I come of myself, but He sent me;
43 Pourquoi ne comprenez-vous pas ma parole? Parce que vous n'entendez pas ma parole.
wherefore do ye not know my speech? because ye are not able to hear my word.
44 Vous êtes de votre père le diable, et vous voulez faire les désirs de votre père. Il a été meurtrier dès le commencement, et il ne tient pas dans la vérité, parce qu'il n'y a pas de vérité en lui. Quand il dit un mensonge, il parle de lui-même, car il est menteur et père du mensonge.
'Ye are of a father — the devil, and the desires of your father ye will to do; he was a man-slayer from the beginning, and in the truth he hath not stood, because there is no truth in him; when one may speak the falsehood, of his own he speaketh, because he is a liar — also his father.
45 Mais parce que je dis la vérité, vous ne me croyez pas.
'And because I say the truth, ye do not believe me.
46 Lequel d'entre vous me convainc de péché? Si je dis la vérité, pourquoi ne me croyez-vous pas?
Who of you doth convict me of sin? and if I speak truth, wherefore do ye not believe me?
47 Celui qui est de Dieu entend les paroles de Dieu. C'est pourquoi vous n'entendez pas, parce que vous n'êtes pas de Dieu. »
he who is of God, the sayings of God he doth hear; because of this ye do not hear, because of God ye are not.'
48 Alors les Juifs lui répondirent: « Ne disons-nous pas bien que tu es un Samaritain, et que tu as un démon? »
The Jews, therefore, answered and said to him, 'Do we not say well, that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?'
49 Jésus répondit: « Je n'ai pas de démon, mais j'honore mon Père et vous me déshonorez.
Jesus answered, 'I have not a demon, but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me;
50 Mais je ne cherche pas ma propre gloire. Il y a quelqu'un qui cherche et qui juge.
and I do not seek my own glory; there is who is seeking and is judging;
51 En vérité, je vous le dis, si quelqu'un garde ma parole, il ne verra jamais la mort. » (aiōn g165)
verily, verily, I say to you, If any one may keep my word, death he may not see — to the age.' (aiōn g165)
52 Alors les Juifs lui dirent: « Nous savons maintenant que tu as un démon. Abraham est mort, ainsi que les prophètes; et toi, tu dis: « Si quelqu'un garde ma parole, il ne goûtera jamais à la mort. (aiōn g165)
The Jews, therefore, said to him, 'Now we have known that thou hast a demon; Abraham did die, and the prophets, and thou dost say, If any one may keep my word, he shall not taste of death — to the age! (aiōn g165)
53 Es-tu plus grand que notre père Abraham, qui est mort? Les prophètes sont morts. Pour qui te prends-tu? »
Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died; whom dost thou make thyself?'
54 Jésus répondit: « Si je me glorifie moi-même, ma gloire n'est rien. C'est mon Père qui me glorifie, lui dont vous dites qu'il est notre Dieu.
Jesus answered, 'If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father who is glorifying me, of whom ye say that He is your God;
55 Vous ne l'avez pas connu, mais moi, je le connais. Si je disais: « Je ne le connais pas », je serais comme vous, un menteur. Mais moi, je le connais et je garde sa parole.
and ye have not known Him, and I have known Him, and if I say that I have not known Him, I shall be like you — speaking falsely; but I have known Him, and His word I keep;
56 Ton père Abraham s'est réjoui de voir mon jour. Il l'a vu et s'est réjoui. »
Abraham, your father, was glad that he might see my day; and he saw, and did rejoice.'
57 Les Juifs lui dirent donc: « Tu n'as pas encore cinquante ans! As-tu vu Abraham? »
The Jews, therefore, said unto him, 'Thou art not yet fifty years old, and Abraham hast thou seen?'
58 Jésus leur dit: « En vérité, je vous le dis, avant qu'Abraham n'existe, JE SUIS. »
Jesus said to them, 'Verily, verily, I say to you, Before Abraham's coming — I am;'
59 Ils prirent donc des pierres pour les jeter contre lui, mais Jésus se cacha et sortit du temple, après avoir traversé le milieu d'eux, et il passa ainsi.
they took up, therefore, stones that they may cast at him, but Jesus hid himself, and went forth out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
