Aggée 2
1 Le septième mois, le vingt et unième jour du mois, la parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Aggée, le prophète, en ces termes:
In the seventh month, on the twenty-first [day] of the month, the Lord spoke by Aggaeus the prophet, saying,
2 Parle à Zorobabel, fils de Shealthiel, gouverneur de Juda, à Josué, fils de Jotsadak, grand prêtre, et au reste du peuple, et dis-leur:
Speak now to Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, of the tribe of Juda, and to Jesus the son of Josedec, the high priest, and to all the remnant of the people, saying,
3 Qui est resté parmi vous, qui a vu cette maison dans sa gloire passée? Comment la voyez-vous maintenant? N'est-elle pas à vos yeux comme un rien?
Who [is there] of you that saw this house in her former glory? and how do you now look upon it, as it were nothing before your eyes?
4 Mais maintenant, sois fort, Zorobabel, dit Yahvé. Sois fort, Josué, fils de Jéhozadak, le grand prêtre. Fortifie-toi, vous tous, peuple du pays, dit Yahvé, et travaille, car je suis avec toi, dit Yahvé des armées.
Yet now be strong, O Zorobabel, says the Lord; and strengthen yourself, O Jesus the high priest, the son of Josedec; and let all the people of the land strengthen themselves, says the Lord, and work, for I am with you, says the Lord Almighty;
5 C'est la parole que j'ai promise à vous lorsque vous êtes sortis d'Égypte et que mon Esprit a habité au milieu de vous. N'ayez pas peur.
and my Spirit remains in the midst of you; be of good courage.
6 Car voici ce que dit l'Éternel des armées: « Encore une fois, c'est encore un peu de temps, et j'ébranlerai les cieux, la terre, la mer et la terre ferme,
For thus says the Lord Almighty; Yet once I will shake the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry [land];
7 et j'ébranlerai toutes les nations. Les trésors de toutes les nations viendront, et je remplirai cette maison de gloire, dit Yahvé des armées.
and I will shake all nations, and the choice [portions] of all the nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord Almighty.
8 L'argent est à moi, et l'or est à moi, dit l'Éternel des armées.
Mine is the silver, and mine the gold, says the Lord Almighty.
9 La dernière gloire de cette maison sera plus grande que la première, dit l'Éternel des armées; et dans ce lieu je donnerai la paix, dit l'Éternel des armées. »
For the glory of this house shall be great, the latter more than the former, says the Lord Almighty: and in this place will I give peace, says the Lord Almighty, even peace of soul for a possession to every one that builds, to raise up this temple.
10 Le vingt-quatrième jour du neuvième mois, la deuxième année de Darius, la parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Aggée, le prophète, en ces termes:
On the four and twentieth [day] of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Aggaeus the prophet, saying,
11 « Yahvé des armées dit: Interroge maintenant les prêtres au sujet de la loi, en disant:
Thus says the Lord Almighty; Inquire now of the priest [concerning] the law, saying,
12 'Si quelqu'un porte de la viande sainte dans le pli de son vêtement, et qu'avec ce pli il touche du pain, du ragoût, du vin, de l'huile, ou n'importe quel aliment, cela deviendra-t-il saint?'". Les prêtres ont répondu: « Non. »
If a man should take holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and the skirt of his garment should touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.
13 Alors Aggée dit: « Si quelqu'un qui est impur à cause d'un cadavre touche l'un de ces objets, sera-t-il impur? » Les prêtres ont répondu: « Ce sera impur. »
And Aggaeus said, If a defiled person who is unclean by reason of a dead body, touch any of these, shall it be defiled? And the priests answered and said, It shall be defiled.
14 Aggée répondit: « Il en est ainsi de ce peuple, il en est ainsi de cette nation devant moi, dit l'Éternel, et il en est ainsi de tout ce que font leurs mains. Ce qu'ils offrent là est impur.
And Aggaeus answered and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, says the Lord; and so are all the works of their hands: and whoever shall approach them, shall be defiled [because of their early burdens: they shall be pained because of their toils; and you have hated him that reproved in the gates].
15 Maintenant, considérez ce qui s'est passé depuis aujourd'hui et en arrière, avant qu'une pierre ne soit posée sur une pierre dans le temple de Yahvé.
And now consider, I pray you, from this day and beforetime, before they laid a stone on a stone in the temple of the Lord, what manner of men you were.
16 Pendant tout ce temps, quand on arrivait à un tas de vingt mesures, il n'y en avait que dix. Quand on s'approchait de la cuve à vin pour en tirer cinquante, il n'y en avait que vingt.
When you cast into the corn-bin twenty measures of barley, and there were [only] ten measures of barley: and you went to the vat to draw out fifty measures, and there were [but] twenty.
17 Je t'ai frappé par le mildiou, la moisissure et la grêle dans tout l'ouvrage de tes mains, et tu ne t'es pas tourné vers moi, dit l'Éternel.
I struck you with barrenness, and with blasting, and all the works of your hands with hail; yet you returned not to me, says the Lord.
18 Considérez, je vous prie, depuis ce jour et à rebours, depuis le vingt-quatrième jour du neuvième mois, depuis le jour où les fondements du temple de Yahvé ont été posés, considérez.
Set your hearts now [to think] from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth [day] of the ninth month, even from the day when the foundation of the temple of the Lord was laid;
19 La semence est-elle encore dans la grange? Oui, la vigne, le figuier, le grenadier et l'olivier n'ont pas produit. A partir d'aujourd'hui, je te bénirai ».
consider in your hearts, whether [this] shall be known on the corn-floor, and whether yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive-trees that bear no fruit [are with you]: from this day will I bless [you].
20 La parole de Yahvé fut adressée pour la seconde fois à Aggée, le vingt-quatrième jour du mois, en ces termes:
And the word of the Lord came the second time to Aggaeus the prophet, on the four and twentieth [day] of the month, saying,
21 Parle à Zorobabel, gouverneur de Juda, et dis-lui: « J'ébranlerai les cieux et la terre.
Speak to Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, of the tribe of Juda, saying, I shake the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry [land];
22 Je renverserai le trône des royaumes. Je détruirai la force des royaumes des nations. Je renverserai les chars et ceux qui les montent. Les chevaux et leurs cavaliers tomberont, chacun par l'épée de son frère.
and I will overthrow the thrones of kings, and I will destroy the power of the kings of the nations; and I will overthrow chariots and riders; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword striving against his brother.
23 En ce jour-là, dit Yahvé des armées, je te prendrai, Zorobabel, mon serviteur, fils de Shealtiel, dit Yahvé, et je te rendrai semblable à un sceau, car je t'ai choisi, dit Yahvé des armées. »
In that day, says the Lord Almighty, I will take you, O Zorobabel, the son of Salathiel, my servant, says the Lord, and will make you as a seal: for I have chosen you, says the Lord Almighty.
