2 Samuel 12
1 Yahvé envoya Nathan auprès de David. Il vint le trouver et lui dit: « Il y avait dans une ville deux hommes, l'un riche et l'autre pauvre.
The LORD sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him, “There were two men in one city: the one rich, and the other poor.
2 Le riche avait beaucoup de troupeaux,
The rich man had very many flocks and herds,
3 mais le pauvre n'avait rien, sauf une petite brebis qu'il avait achetée et élevée. Elle grandissait avec lui et avec ses enfants. Elle mangeait de sa nourriture, buvait dans sa coupe, se couchait dans son sein et était pour lui comme une fille.
but the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and raised. It grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food, drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was like a daughter to him.
4 Un voyageur vint chez le riche, et il ne voulut pas prendre de son propre troupeau et de son propre bétail pour le préparer pour le voyageur qui était venu chez lui, mais il prit l'agneau du pauvre et le prépara pour l'homme qui était venu chez lui. »
A traveller came to the rich man, and he didn’t want to take of his own flock and of his own herd to prepare for the wayfaring man who had come to him, but took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”
5 La colère de David s'enflamma contre cet homme, et il dit à Nathan: « L'Éternel est vivant, l'homme qui a fait cela mérite la mort!
David’s anger burnt hot against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the LORD lives, the man who has done this deserves to die!
6 Il doit rendre l'agneau au quadruple, parce qu'il a fait cette chose et parce qu'il n'a pas eu de pitié! ».
He must restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing and because he had no pity!”
7 Nathan dit à David: « Tu es l'homme de la situation! Voici ce que dit Yahvé, le Dieu d'Israël: « Je t'ai oint comme roi d'Israël et je t'ai délivré de la main de Saül.
Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.
8 Je t'ai donné la maison de ton maître et les femmes de ton maître dans ton sein, et je t'ai donné la maison d'Israël et de Juda; et si cela eût été trop peu, je t'en aurais ajouté beaucoup d'autres.
I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that would have been too little, I would have added to you many more such things.
9 Pourquoi avez-vous méprisé la parole de l'Éternel, pour faire ce qui est mal à ses yeux? Vous avez frappé par l'épée Urie, le Hittite, vous avez pris sa femme pour en faire votre épouse, et vous l'avez tué par l'épée des fils d'Ammon.
Why have you despised the LORD’s word, to do that which is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
10 Maintenant, l'épée ne s'éloignera jamais de ta maison, parce que tu m'as méprisé et que tu as pris pour femme la femme d'Urie, le Héthien ».
Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me and have taken Uriah the Hittite’s wife to be your wife.’
11 « Voici ce que dit Yahvé: 'Voici, je vais susciter le mal contre toi à partir de ta propre maison; je prendrai tes femmes sous tes yeux et les donnerai à ton prochain, et il couchera avec tes femmes sous les yeux de ce soleil.
“This is what the LORD says: ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbour, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.
12 Car vous avez fait cela secrètement, mais moi, je ferai cela devant tout Israël et devant le soleil.'"
For you did this secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.’”
13 David dit à Nathan: « J'ai péché contre Yahvé. » Nathan dit à David: « Yahvé a aussi effacé ton péché. Tu ne mourras pas.
David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.” Nathan said to David, “The LORD also has put away your sin. You will not die.
14 Mais, parce que tu as donné aux ennemis de Yahvé l'occasion de blasphémer, l'enfant qui te naîtra mourra. »
However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the LORD’s enemies to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you will surely die.”
15 Puis Nathan s'en alla dans sa maison. Yahvé frappa l'enfant que la femme d'Urie avait enfanté à David, et celui-ci fut très malade.
Then Nathan departed to his house. The LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and he was very sick.
16 David supplia donc Dieu de lui accorder cet enfant; il jeûna, entra et passa la nuit à terre.
David therefore begged God for the child; and David fasted, and went in and lay all night on the ground.
17 Les anciens de sa maison se levèrent à côté de lui, pour le relever de terre; mais il ne voulut pas, et il ne mangea pas de pain avec eux.
The elders of his house arose beside him, to raise him up from the earth; but he would not, and he didn’t eat bread with them.
18 Le septième jour, l'enfant mourut. Les serviteurs de David eurent peur de lui annoncer que l'enfant était mort, car ils disaient: « Voici, lorsque l'enfant était encore vivant, nous lui avons parlé et il n'a pas écouté notre voix. Comment se fera-t-il donc du mal si nous lui disons que l'enfant est mort? ».
On the seventh day, the child died. David’s servants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they said, “Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him and he didn’t listen to our voice. How will he then harm himself if we tell him that the child is dead?”
19 Mais lorsque David vit que ses serviteurs chuchotaient ensemble, il comprit que l'enfant était mort; et David dit à ses serviteurs: « L'enfant est-il mort? » Ils ont dit: « Il est mort. »
But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.”
20 Alors David se leva de terre, se lava, s'oignit et changea de vêtements, puis il entra dans la maison de Yahvé et se prosterna. Puis il rentra dans sa maison; et quand il demanda, on mit du pain devant lui et il mangea.
Then David arose from the earth, and washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothing; and he came into the LORD’s house, and worshipped. Then he came to his own house; and when he requested, they set bread before him and he ate.
21 Alors ses serviteurs lui dirent: « Qu'est-ce que tu as fait? Tu as jeûné et pleuré l'enfant pendant qu'il était vivant, mais quand l'enfant est mort, tu t'es levé et tu as mangé du pain. »
Then his servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive, but when the child was dead, you rose up and ate bread.”
22 Il dit: « Lorsque l'enfant vivait encore, j'ai jeûné et pleuré, car je disais: « Qui sait si Yahvé ne me fera pas grâce, afin que l'enfant vive? »
He said, “While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who knows whether the LORD will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?’
23 Mais maintenant, il est mort. Pourquoi devrais-je jeûner? Puis-je le ramener à la vie? J'irai vers lui, mais il ne reviendra pas vers moi. »
But now he is dead. Why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”
24 David consola sa femme Bethsabée, alla vers elle, et coucha avec elle. Elle enfanta un fils, et il lui donna le nom de Salomon. L'Éternel l'aima.
David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. The LORD loved him;
25 Il envoya par la main de Nathan le prophète, qui lui donna le nom de Jedidia, à cause de l'Éternel.
and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and he named him Jedidiah, for the LORD’s sake.
26 Joab fit la guerre à Rabba, des enfants d'Ammon, et prit la ville royale.
Now Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
27 Joab envoya des messagers à David, et dit: « J'ai combattu contre Rabba. Oui, j'ai pris la ville des eaux.
Joab sent messengers to David, and said, “I have fought against Rabbah. Yes, I have taken the city of waters.
28 Maintenant, rassemble le reste du peuple, campe contre la ville et prends-la, de peur que je ne prenne la ville et qu'on l'appelle de mon nom. »
Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city and take it; lest I take the city, and it be called by my name.”
29 David rassembla tout le peuple, alla à Rabba, l'attaqua et la prit.
David gathered all the people together and went to Rabbah, and fought against it and took it.
30 Il enleva de sa tête la couronne de leur roi, dont le poids était d'un talent d'or, et dans laquelle il y avait des pierres précieuses, et il la mit sur la tête de David. Il fit sortir de la ville une grande quantité de butin.
He took the crown of their king from off his head; and its weight was a talent of gold, and in it were precious stones; and it was set on David’s head. He brought a great quantity of plunder out of the city.
31 Il fit sortir les gens qui s'y trouvaient et les fit travailler sous des scies, sous des pioches de fer, sous des haches de fer, et les fit passer au four à briques; il fit ainsi dans toutes les villes des enfants d'Ammon. Puis David et tout le peuple retournèrent à Jérusalem.
He brought out the people who were in it, and put them to work under saws, under iron picks, under axes of iron, and made them go to the brick kiln; and he did so to all the cities of the children of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
